This actually confused me.
Where in the fuuck do these morons actually see the club right now?
At it's best or worst?
Hhmm.
Support the club blindly and don't ask questions or disagree with anything otherwise you're not a supporter. This is the same mob that swallows all the jizz about close losses. Who cares we lost at least the players tried. It's these apathetic supporters that have kept Ken and the board in a job for so long.

1. Our best 22 got flogged by 70+ in a home prelim.

2. Some of these players had value but Ken decided to hold them too long. Aaron Young, Lobbe, Pittard made an AA 40, hell even O'Shea would have got us something decent after his 2014 finals series.

I've always rated our best 22 - if on the off chance we managed to keep our best 22 on the park for the majority of the season, like we did in 2014, we would give most teams a run for their money.

It's the guys underneath that are the problem. They were delisted and not traded because they had no currency. Guys like Ben Newton for example. Andrew Moore was a first round draft pick that should have got us something - nothing. John Butcher - first round draft pick - nothing. Jasper Pittard had to be bundled up with Jared Polec. We got absolutely nothing for Ben Jacobs who was a first rounder. Etc etc. Harvey, Shaw, Neade...the list goes on. A team that is vying for the flag should be able to sell their reserve players for at least a third or fourth round pick, and their young first round picks for a first round pick in exchange. Best 22 players should fetch at least a second round pick.

They didn't get there because they had no pressure from underneath to push them to the elite standards necessary to win a flag. You want to know what I blame? After 2004, we went on a cost cutting exercise and completely gutted out our Victorian recruiting department (the main source of talent for drafted players) and our scouting team. It was only reinstated in 2012.

We've had a decent recruiting department for 10 years, which is why the guys we drafted during that time (Impey, Austin, Howard, Ladhams) that left the club actually had some value. It's why we haven't had a bust in the first round since then and why I didn't question the club when they traded out of 2017 to get Marshall and Powell-Pepper. If we had a recruiting department in 2009 we select Talia, Jetta, Fyfe, Gunston, Duncan or Gawn with our first three picks, or bundle up Pick 8 and 9 to get Pick 3 from Richmond for Dustin Martin.

I don't think people fully appreciate just how close to folding this club was in 2012. 2013 was literally a Khmer Rouge 'Year Zero' for Port Adelaide in terms of it's AFL journey. Whatever we had done from 1997-2012 hadn't worked, because we had cut costs on the future of our football department. It's why the reunification of the Magpies into the club was important. A complete reset.

We aren't winning a flag unless a) our best 22 is on the park more often than not or b) we improve our reserve side to the point where they consistently play finals in whatever reserve competition they are in.
Ok let me turn the question around then

Assuming Ken was the driving force single handedly saving us from ruin a decade ago

When do those credits run out?
10
15
20 years?

At what point is it obvious he’s reached his ceiling and that’s it
2
3 list turnovers ?

2
3 assistant coach panels being cleaned out ?

Because we staring at 10 years and 3 list turnovers and Ass coaches as of today

It’s not hyperbole to say NO coach in the league has had the same level of patience and support we’ve gifted Hinkley

He should be judged only when he tells us to judge him though. He is not sure when that is until he wins the flag in his 25th season

No other club in the AFL would be keeping Ken on next year in our exact circumstances.. The one thing that I cannot compute is that at this time in his tenure, there was clearly bad blood between Ken and Koch, but now they are besties....

Report: Ken Hinkley asks to be released from Port Adelaide contract, set to join Suns

Also, on the above, he showed no flipping respect to us in 2017, so i will be booing him when leaves. Cant stand the prick.

They are besties because Koch tied his wagon to Ken and he's trying to justify why when he had an out much earlier and didn't take it.

It's media bullsh*t. Look at the whole tarps thing. They took that and use it to this day as a symbol of us being "down and out". Stuff like that is all they need. It's an easy sell in an industry that only cares about a compelling narrative. Now tell me, what's more interesting? A story about a coach that has done everything he can with his skillset, tactical nous (or lack thereof) and a couple of playing groups? Or a story about a supporter base savaging a coach that rescued them from death's door and got them to two preliminary finals and top two finishes in the last two years? It's not about reality, it's about what makes the best yarn.

The reality is, that even in our best years, Ken has done nothing to make us a dominant team that puts teams to the sword. We fear expectation and we fear ultimate success. Ken has done everything he can to suppress any signs of arrogance because he's always one eye on the "we're getting ahead of ourselves" label. I doubt he's even considered that maybe we needed a bit of arrogance. In the after match interview with channel 7 last weekend, Hawkins heaped praise on us and the way we kept coming like a a kid might praise their younger brother for taking a few good swings. Whether intentional or not, it was patronising and i reckon there's no doubt that they had supreme confidence they would come out on top.
Forget getting rid of the tarps.

That was the previous admin.

This admin have wasted the best chance we have EVER had (and probably the best we ever will get) to be the #1 team in town which would be massive for our financial and ergo on field future.

The Crows have been a basket case and will continue to be for a few years yet both on field and off and we are pissing away the chance to capitalise.

My guess has always been to keep him here meant giving him a similar time frame to that he would of got at the suns, say 5 years min so he doesn't lose out.

So I was googling Ken Hinkley Greyhound killer and came across this article Life-changing lessons , I think it’s plain to see the death of his mate changed his priorities significantly, which is understandable, but ultimately to the detriment of the club. The issue is he should have been told to piss off after the suns drama and Koch is 100% to blame

I don't think people fully appreciate just how close to folding this club was in 2012.

All the structural problems that were millstoning the joint were either rectified or in-train to being rectified prior to 2012.

So, no, there was no danger of folding by the time Koch, Thomas and Hinkley rocked up, utilising resources and opportunities their predecessors (save for that 03-04 period when the club went all-in for Choco) could only have dreamed of.

In any case, let’s not define 152 years of history by 2-3 years of trauma that literally every club has suffered at one point.

Clicked and read the link above

Actually a pretty well written and informative article

But by Christ it shows how stagnant we've been over the last 6 years

We're seeing and talking about the exact same issues today as noted then
