All the structural problems that were millstoning the joint were either rectified or in-train to being rectified prior to 2012.

So, no, there was no danger of folding by the time Koch, Thomas and Hinkley rocked up, utilising resources and opportunities their predecessors (save for that 03-04 period when the club went all-in for Choco) could only have dreamed of.

In any case, let’s not define 152 years of history by 2-3 years of trauma that literally every club has suffered at one point.
I'm not talking about folding. I'm talking about what it takes to be a successful club in the AFL.

Our recruiting and scouting network wasn't replaced until 2013 because the SANFL, in their infinite wisdom, didn't see the benefit in spending money on making sure that a club that they owned would be able to successfully recruit players to establish any pathway to future success because they were blinded by resentment. It was only when the AFL gave money to the SANFL with the specific caveat that it was to be used on the Port Adelaide football program and nothing else that we went from being the equivalent of a shell company in football terms back to actually having a chance at success.

It wasn't 2-3 years of trauma. It was a willful and systematic bleeding of the club for the better part of a decade, designed to hamstring us into the very situation that we found ourselves in during 2011/2012. The resources and opportunities that you speak of are what we should have had from the beginning of our tenure in the AFL, so that when we broke through for that inaugural AFL flag in 2004 we were able to sustain success through the draft.

No other club has had their license owner actively work against them like we had during that period. We literally had to go all-in just to win a flag, to the point where the premiership meant almost nothing to our bottom line. We couldn't afford to keep our fitness staff. Our assistant coaching ranks were completely gutted, to the point where we had a coach holding line meetings over ****ing SKYPE, FFS.

You don't run anything successful that way. And it takes time to rebuild and be successful. Do I consider Port Adelaide to be successful in the ultimate sense? No - ultimate success for a football club is measured in premierships. But I do consider us to be successful in creating an environment in which we see guys like Marshall, Powell-Pepper, Bonner, Rozee, Butters and Georgiades grow into legitimate players.

I can’t recall who first said this but it still resonates with me

For a club with such a successful 150+ year history, why does the current administration choose to focus on 2012, at our lowest ever point
You see, I would actually argue that RIGHT NOW is our lowest point ever. Yeah our ladder position is higher now than it was 10 years ago, but Port fans are far more disillusioned with the club these days than they were back then. I would NEVER have considered cancelling my membership in 2011-12, but it's a certainty for 2023 if Ken is still here.

Ollie's comments are why you don't listen to players on these issues they don't know what's good for them, they are comfortable.

Someone upstairs needs to put their big boy pants on.
The players might actually have some heat put on them by a new coach. They dont want that.

The tone was set in back in 2014 when David Koch declared "we want to be everyone's second favourite team".

Vanilla, inoffensive, benign.....

The club wants this to appear as bloodless as possible. They're hardly about to send players and coaches out into the public arena to s**t can the coach and present a divided club. I'm not sure what else people are expecting Ollie Wines to say.
If that's the case they shouldn't be making it appear bloodless. They should be trying to make him so uncomfortable he walks rather than a mutual agreement where we'll end up probably having to pay 60-70% of his salary for next year.

There's a maximum 6 month payout rule in place. If he's on $800k then our payout is $400k, which is nothing really. He's not walking away without a payout, he's not that stupid.

Just 18 days until we see our Power girls take to the field against Essendon for their first competitive hit out. The best part about this is the fact that Ken won't be the Port coach.
The off-field leadership of our AFL-w team leaves our men’s team for dead, both re coaching, management and admin.

Those costs are sunk. Gotta chase them
Strange way of doing things for a man who is supposedly financially minded. Just screams ego getting in the way.

not if hes got another job. I feel as though this is becoming more and more likely. Between GWS and North, I reckon Ken will have another job next year.

I hope he fails miserably if he goes elsewhere. I want the Ken's a good coach myth destroyed.
