This has happened three out of four times now over a decade.

There is a glaringly obvious common denominator.

100% the players honestly sucked, however if it looks like a duck...
Correlation does not necessarily equal causation.

For what it’s worth, I do think we could use a fresh outlook on the football program once Horse’s contract expires.

But the first thing we should be exploring is Sheldrick and Cleary in the middle for a point of difference.

I think we need a complete freshen up.

Causation does not necessarily equal causation, sure. However when a major factor is the same and results are the same it is causation.

I personally will be pessimistic if we get to the GF with our current coaching personnel

Been a great coach to an extent....but 1-4.......if there was close loses thrown in there you can say unlucky but 3 GF's over by Half time...and even in the one that wasn't we were playing the ****ing team that finished 7th.
Don't know if he's the one that need to go, but something has to change to take that last step. Suspect it's more on the players, a few are becoming repeat shit the bed offenders.

The team not being able to get themselves up for starts is a huge issue, yes we've generally over powered teams and we were actually in it at qtr time today....but we just hand other teams confidence and put ourselves in unnecessary positions, handing that team early confidence killed us becuase they went on with it.
The fact the starts weren't resolved when they were an apparent issue from about round 12 is an indictment on the players but horrible from the coaches it wasn't able to be fixed.

Funny how we’re in the same situation as port. Successful to the 11th hour, pantsed after.
Maybe Port should recruit Horse and at least get them to a grand final.
On a more serious note, I've harped on all year about our shitty zone defense. You need to be be able to play a more accountable game than that. Loose players everywhere but everyone is doing their job standing in space.
Swiss cheese defense

Unfortunately, Horse can lead us to water 💦 😞 but he can't make his team drink.
Bashing the coach is easy after 4 GF losses, but the player's as a whole need to accept responsibility.
Our slow starts & clearance work is an Achilles heel that has bitten us hard, especially the losses in 22 & 24.
Grundy's drop in form & ball use especially inside 50 to a lack of a competitive target is also problematic.
Maybe we've overachieved in making Grand Finals, but it's starting to really burn continually not being competitive when it matters most.
I still think we just have a bunch of string bean players who don't have the mental resilience of the 'sterotypical' man. We're a bunch of larikins. I think horse has the cattle to get to water, but don't have the ability to drink on the big day. I actually don't think coaching is the issue tbh. I think we lack atleast 1 hard nosed midfielder, and a big bullocking defender.

We lost this game because they had a marauding starcevitch in defence whilst we had a makeshift mccartin in ours. We lost the game in those contests. It extrapolated as the game wore on

Shouldn’t have to sack Horse, he should resign. Abysmal fails on such a public stage is not simply a loss, it damages the players, the club’s brand and AFL in NSW. Given the individual strength of our midfield, our weakness in clearances raises the question of whether Cox is the right person to receive the baton.

I couldn’t believe how much free space lions players had early on. Even when we were still it, it was obvious we were going to get destroyed if that didn’t change and it didn’t.

For me the tone was set early too with a couple of turnovers under minimal pressure from Blakey, one I thinking going inside 50.

In retrospect the only enjoyable moment of the day was papley’s snap that put us 2 goals up. At that point it felt like we’d shown up.

I actually feel sorry for the general public being devout of a competitive grand final that we're involved in. I still can't believe a pure shit Collingwood pulled it off against a pretty well drilled brisbane last year.

This is true too. Heeney, Warner and Gulden are excellent players (if a bit downhill-skier types at times in the case of the latter two), but we don’t have Neale-Dunkey-McCluggage-Ashcroft in the middle or Andrews-Starcevich down back. The difference between the best and worst of our players vs theirs is night and day.

Fagan's latest win over Horse now makes it ugly reading.

Longmire now has a 1 W / 8 L record in finals against Clarkson and his Hawthorn assistants who have worked under him for at least 1 full year.

His only win being the 2012 grand final.

I avoided this thread up until this point, but its now clear he doesn't have what it takes to get us up on the last Saturday in September.

I said earlier in the season that Horse treats this week as just another match and doesn't get the team pumped or hyped up enough. It seems that didn't change this week either. This is the biggest week of the season, its what the team plays for every year. If he cant find a way to pump the team up while keeping them focused on the job at hand then he's not good enough for the position of head coach, and it seems that is the case.

bye Horse.

The difference, I guess, in 12 is we had mentally tough players with unwavering effort like JPK, ROK, Goodes, Bolton, Matner, LRT, Mumford, H Grundy, Hannebery etc. and as the Horse years have progressed those players have filtered out (quite a few gone by 14), and while we've brought in equal talent, we've not replaced the fierce mental toughness those guys had and it's shown in subsequent GF's.....I mean in 16 only a handful left and JPK fought a lone hand.

Is that coaching, recruitment...bit of both.......IDK to be fair...but we gotta change something.

Longmire's treatment of pure inside mids is nuts. He refused to play Mitchell in that positiion and he left for a club that would, and Longmire has done the same thing with Sheldrick.

If they are only good at being an in and under midfielder Longmire just won't value them.
Did he not value JPK?

I genuinely feel it's the opposite. I rekn they're too hyped. I watched them during the national anthem again they were all toey jumping around flicking the legs whilst brisbane and in 2022 Geelong stood there steely. I genuinely think we've got a bunch of weak units who actually don't have the ability to see it as 'another game'. If they actually saw it as another game we would've been more competitive as were in all other just another 'games'

Not as much as Roos I don't think, and Longmire has made no effort to replace Kennedy after he retired.
Our midfield has not had the same aura after Ryan O'Keefe was put out to pasture.

I know we were a settled team and there was a bit of disagreement on here about whether Sheldrick was deserving of a spot, but I did find it strange that once he was fit he never got a crack at it. I thought he was genuinely impressive at the end of last year and really had something to build on (although I know if he made the 22, Horse probably plays him at half forward)
