As a port supporter, my respect for brisbane during the era of 2001-2004 increased because of the rivalry. They were a great team and we shared some epic battles.

As a result of yesterday's grand final, my respect for both teams as of this moment has sky rocketed, having witnessed one of the greatest sporting spectacles I've seen in my life.

My question to saints and magpies fans is how much has your respect for the other team changed since yesterday? In sport it is natural to despise the opposition, especially when something so big is at stake, so I'm interested in reading the thoughts of you guize.

as i posted elsewhere I have now got massively enhanced respect for Saints and most of their fans. we know what they went through.
also their determination to turn the game under major pressure was phenomenal. Hayes and Goddard in particular carves out a legend for Saints yesterday. To a lesser extent two much maligned players - Thomas and Maxwell did the same for us

Yes, to the point where if we win next week I will be happy but will feel some sorrow for the other team, and for me that is very unusual.

I have always respected Collingwood so that hasn't changed but my respect for some of the current players went up a few notches, Thomas and Maxwell in particular.

Always liked the Saints (Probably 90% my mates happen to go for the Saints too) but I tend to ignore that because of the ridiculous number of feral Saints supporters on this forum.

If we weren't playing them in the grand final I would be happy to see them win, especially Joey and Gilbert, they carried me into my DT grandfinal.

You have to respect the fact they are a very good side and have been working diligently toward a premiership since 2004, and probably deserve one to be honest.

They are mentally tough, rock hard and its gunna take a big effort from my boys to get the job done next week.

I hate the little w***er as much as ever but I now have great respect for Thomas. He sparked Collingwood so many times and kept them going in the second half.

I have to agree. Before yesterday, I viewed daisy as the justin bieber of the afl, but because of his performance, he has earnt serious respect from me as a footballer. was very impressed with him.

It was a strange sight at the end of yesterday's match seeing how Collingwood and St.Kilda supporters interacted, you could tell there was genuine respect for each other's team and the effort they had just put in. There was the occasional handshake, lots of condolences shared and an abundance of respectful head nodding in acknowledgement of what both parties had just endured.
And although Pies fans copped a lot of stick for the chant during the parade, it was uplifting to see virtually every supporter standing in unison and applauding when Lenny Hayes got announced as the NS and when the respective captains approached the mic.

I still despise St.Kilda (mainly born out of interactions on this between between Pies and Saints supporters), but I certainly respected them as an opponent yesterday. That's not to say I didn't respect the team pre-GF though, because I did already have considerable respect for the team as a whole anyway. It's hard not to respect a team with Lenny Hayes in it, even if it is the same team that harbours the Tiprat.

I have never hated the team St Kilda. More the players in the side.

After yesterday, you are nothing but impressed of how each person carried themselves in a hard and fair way. I expected Baker to snipe and give some cheap shots but he didnt. Played the ball and the man fairly.

Alot of respect.

Made me realize how good Goddard is. From what I saw, he kept the Saints in it singlehandedly pretty much in the first quarter, plus his two huge marks and goals when the Saints needed them were inspirational. I would mark him the most versatile player in the competition.
Not so much as the team, but for what they went through, same as us. Just a sense of similarity, even though they are our opponents. Weird feeling.

I have a load of respect for them after yesterday, those images at the end when all the players were on the ground was something i thought id never ever see, theres one image in my head where an umpire is helping dal up, amazing image that ill never forget.

Already thought highly of them, I only disputed that they were miles in front of us, and predicted that the game would be pretty even.

Is there an image of that, or do you know if it was caught on tv? Or was this something you saw in the flesh?

It's on the broadcast, Shaun Ryan helps Dal to his feet.

The look on his face seems full of sympathy as he surveys the players on the ground.

This says it all for me. Sad to say that I even have more respect for Collingwood supporters now as well. And to think that one point either way and we would never have known. :p

Have always liked Nick Maxwell and he did a great job - with that mark and also the touch that saved two certain goals.

I have never really minded Collingwood!! lol :)

NEWSFLASH: A team = players in a side
