For ****s sakes. Don't blame the parents in all this.

There are some seriously shit blokes in this thread, a bit disappointing really. It's the sort of thing I'd expect from Carlton scum, not Essendon fans. To attack a parent for caring for her son is a disgrace and anyone doing it should be ashamed of themselves.

Until either the parent or the player out themselves, or all the parents sign an open letter to the radio station saying it wasn't them we won't know for sure if it was staged or not.
Well said. As supporters/members we have not even 1% the emotional investment that the families do. If we crack it and walk away from the game it would hurt us a bit. If (notice I said if) there are long term complications from some of the substances, they can't walk away.

I don't think people are being that unreasonable not believing she was a parent.

It doesn't matter anyway. If she is a parent I hope she gets the answers she desires. And I hope her kid isn't lost to the game.

Agreed tenthousandfold. If we saw an opposition poster saying "I bet Dr Garnham was just reading a fabricated script by the Hird team" would we take issue? **** yes. So cut this rude shit because it is so out of place with the generally thoughtful dialogue on this board.

Look I don't want to seem like someone who is turning on the club/Hird etc, but when you hear the interview and see that their children weren't taken care of by a professional football club, then someone must take responsibility. Pretend this was Carlton and not Essendon. Wouldn't you feel sorry for the mother and be angry at the club for letting this occur? In the charge sheet, the AFL stated many worrying things that indicate that the place was not safe for players. The AFL couldn't possibly have made all of it up. Take of the Essendon glasses and think health and safety. That is absolutely unacceptable. If the AFL charged them for negligence, then that is exactly right. i don't agree with certain aspects of the charge sheet, but in terms of health and safety, I completely agree. I feel sorry for the players

I think those who oversaw that kind of environment should do the right thing and step down. The club can then focus on picking itself up and operating like any other football club. Us supporters can also focus on premierships, finals etc like any other supporter
(a) It wasn't an interview where she was questioned.
(b) Responsibility for what? Essendon and the individuals remaining are not contesting responsibility for poor recruitment and supervision. They are contesting being labeled as drug cheats who did not care about player safety. Additionally, Hamilton, Dank, Robinson, Robson & Evans are no longer at the club.
(c) Of course I feel sorry for the mother. I feel for all the players and their families. I also remain open to the notion that while Hird is culpable of making some mistakes, that he deserves the benefit of doubt in deciding whether those mistakes should directly and solely correspond to the outcome.
(d) Charge sheet. Not evidence. Not even the most recent charge sheet. The AFL have major conflicts of interest and a strong reason not to see this end in court. At the same time they have commercial reasons why they need to be seen to be taking a hard line on drugs, even though no infractions have been made.

What is this brilliance?

WTF are the AFL doing? Have the received no legal advice on this?
I know ASADA are a rabble, but if this is true, the AFL cannot use anything from the ASADA investigation or the Switkowski review to try and stick the charges. They will literally have nothing to go on.

It's probably a defense Essendon will try to use. Whether or not a judge sides with the club remains to be seen, there are often several interpretations for points of law.

If these points are going to form a solid defense it would appear that the AFL releasing those charge sheets is AD trying to take everyone else down with him. No way he survives if the investigation is compromised on his watch. That would also explain why the AFL released the original charges and not the ones negotiated with the club - maximum damage but little concern for the longer term consequences.

well it was more of a shot at the media jumping all over one side of the argument and the other side hardly rating a mention, I did say she has every right to be concerned.I do stand by the fact that if she wants to ring up a radio station and get all hysterical then I think the least she could do is attend the meetings put on for her benefit.

I think people complaining about the mother are more complaining about her lack of will to help herself by going to Essendon's meetings. Of course it is fair that she is upset and worried about her son, but if you do nothing to help yourself (seeking information or even taking the information that is offered), you are setting yourself up to be stressed and worried. Perhaps she was unable to attend these meetings but even in this case, there has been information from other parents about e-mails being sent and, basically, Essendon doing all it can to keep parents in the loop. If you feel the need to complain on the radio, then you should feel the need to seek appropriate information from those in the know.

In short, I feel for the mother but complaining on radio rather than seeking information from people that know what happened (and are very willing to give it), was a poor choice.

While I understand your point it's also naive.

There are good and ordinary people from every single club. I know many great blokes that are Carlton supporters. I've seen many shitty Essendon supporters.

There's posts on the HTB relating Essendon and Hird with Hitler and his Nazi regime.

To be fair, it's sold more newspapers.

THIS

As much as I respect James Hird for the great champion he was on the field, an individual is never bigger then the club.

If Hird wants to go 1 on 1 vs AFL or AD he shouldn't be coaching our Football club, how is he supposed to "coach" our club when all this shit is going on in the background with the AFL?

I would rather Essendon go through short term pain (losing points this year, draft picks, coaches suspended etc) then this saga drag out for years and then cop our punnishment when we may have a side to contend for a premiership.

My thoughts are it was not a mother of one of our players, but just another ploy to discredit james, just makes sense if I was the AFL playing the games there playing
thats the type of thing you would to to keep the fire burning on your target, just does not sit with me that a mother with all the resources the club offers, would be reassured enough
that things would be ok, and is her son that stupid he does not talk to his parents at all, and lets her ring up and belittle his coach, get real, whole thing is a load of crap.

Just my thoughts

I disagree, sure it is a nice theory but it has been clear from what the playing group have dished up in recent weeks that there is an issue.

The last two weeks i have closely watched the huddle and the body language has been respectful without any real passion.

The mother did make several valid points and if anything she strongly made the point that she didn't think the club cheated and were actually tiring to do the right thing in investing in the playing group.

The mother's main point was and it is valid and that is the players seem to have been overlooked and it is all been about Hird and co.

I don't buy that this group is cooked, they have mostly given up. In the workplace this sort of workforce response indicates trust as been lost or is being seriously questioned.

So we have an hysterical mother go on radio and refuses to reveal her identity and goes on and on about the welfare of her son blah blah blah (she has every right to be concerned) and then says she hasn't attended the parents meetings held by the club, and then we have Alex Browne's father who openly admitted who he was, who has attended the meeting come out and say he is satisfied that his son isn't exposed to any future health risks. For **** sake lady attend the meetings!!!!!

I am ONLY agreeing with the part that suggests she should have attended the meetings. I think it would be great if the club can find out who she was and make sure she has understood the emails etc etc. It is not OK that a mother has to be this concerned, and on the evidence, about nothing.

Shame on you media.. this isn't a game.. these are real people you are hurting. This isn't the club's fault.. this is your fault for printing lies and more lies and trying to paint a narrative that all these young men are damaged. The evidence strongly points to the fact that they are neither in harm nor likely to be in future harm.

I hope this mother can get the answers she needs to feel better about the situation.

I love that guy... He is so smug he is easily picked off... If you have any sort logic in an argument he crumbles pretty fast as he is very blinded by hate...

The club needs to contact this parent and fly her down and brief her in the same way the others have been.

And I say fly her down, as I assume she is from interstate, as why else would she miss the meetings that answered many of the questions that are gnawing away at her.

Players health is still the number 1 issue here, and if the situation is ok, then the families need to know this, so that all the media scare campaigns doesn't frighten the life out of them.

I'd rather contest any charges which we believe aren't true than roll over.

The shame needs to be shared by the club and media IMO. Do not lose sight that the club still has responsibility.

Isn't it amazing that all our 'new' fans are so keen to throw in with the AFL.. what a strange co-incidence.

Go home troll.

We don't know the family person circumstances, maybe she is that angry that its best she doesn't or maybe she has other commitments, i don't think it matters, what this highlights is the need to back the playing group 110%

Even if they fumble or make a silly skill error (okay maybe there are limits)

I guess I believe the club that there are NO risks to players health and they have tried to do EVERYTHING in their power to reassure the parents and families of that. The club has also been very pro-active to encourage and help every player get independent medical advice etc etc.

The club has handled this very professionally imho. I think this mother is frightened, not because of our actions last year, but because the media has run a very very good scare campaign that has painted an untrue 'worst case scenario' situation.

I think this is the same reason why the players are flat. they are reading this same crap and starting to wonder what the hell happened. there seems to be no trust and that IS a concern. Hopefully this will all play out in court and then no one will have any fears moving forward.
