We should not discourage alternative thought. Education about matters is important and then people, armed with all the information can conclude whatever they want. It's a free world.

I have no problem with disagreement.. I've been in my share of BF fights..
However it can not be ignored that all our 'newer' posters seem to share the same view as Caro.

I hate Alan Jones.. but wow didn't he nail it.. shame he can't pump that out all day across every media outlet in melbourne.

Love this part: "The AFL has mistake after mistake after mistake"

Too Right!

Really? I have been a member since April, not yesterday, get your facts right.....just because I don't post on Bigfooty every day doesn't mean I am a troll.

Surely the AFL and Essendon can come to an agreement that won't keep this going on for years and damage our club even more... it has put me right off watching the club that I have loved my whole life.

I don't want Essendon to be the new Collingwood "Its us against them" mentality, we are a proud club and shouldn't have this reputation

I has gone way to far for it not to be us against them now and forever. Listen to what the presidents of the other clubs have said today. They could not give two shits about Essendon, it's all about the AFL image according to them.

I am glad Hurley confirmed with you that he's not interested in leaving.
It's likely that he'd disclose information about potentially leaving a club to the two of you, as in no way would the media jump all over him if even the slightest musing on an internet forum would occur.

Huh? Don't quite follow.

From looking at the text message he was more perplexed at the suggestion that it would even be a rumour.

It's fair enough to feel like that. I don't want Essendon to accept whatever the AFL wants to do regardless of whether it's just or not.

Remember, we are not going to court saying we are completely innocent. We want to go to court to receive a fair hearing. Is that not something you believe in? Is that not something you would want for yourself?

Also, might I add. Although I'm blindly biased towards Essendon, I don't think you can truly call yourself a die hard Essendon man or woman if you're having second thoughts about the club, officials, or players from this saga. To me, that suggests you're either buying into the bullshit the AFL and media are spinning, or, you're so desperate to seem impartial, you've gone completely anti-Essendon to do so.
Feel free to disagree with me, but as a true supporter, I feel like constructive criticism is welcome, but when the situation is as it is, to completely throw the book at Essendon is nothing short of piss weak. Sure if we come out with mud all over us, then you can get pissed, but not yet.

Stand by Essendon boys. As many have said already, it's going to get ugly, but I love this club enough to hold the belief we would never have done 90% of the things the AFL and media would have you believe.

Keep chuggin' on lads

How long does an application like this usually take to get processed, just out of curiosity?

Well usually it can take 2-4 months to get on the docket, depending on the lists.

However due to the public nature and 'pressing' issues of the charges.. I would expect this would be heard very promptly. I would expect an initial hearing within 10 days. (Not saying it will be dealt with, but likely to be some form of procedural/directions hearing) Most importantly the writ asks for action/hearing to be suspended until after the Finals Series - this is likely to be granted and therefore nothing will happen for the next six weeks.

Could you type out the conversation for us?

Yes but have you ever thought that there may be legitimate new Essendon posters amongst the trolls who read our posts as guests and feel motivated to create an account so they have a voice to add that they believe is not being heard?

The trolls will out themselves. Worst case scenario if they don't and what they write offends you, you can ignore them. :p

Can someone confirm what Alan Jones said?

I can't get sound on my computer:(

It's just an amazing rant, telling Hirdy to go for it, saying that the AFL are a pack of mercenaries looking to use a legend of the game and a club doctor of 30+ years as scape goats. It got me a little hard, I won't lie!

I appreciate your point and we should be fully backing the playing group 110% but from experience there is always two sides to the story and too often i have seen people use their position to do questionable things then run away from any responsibility for the consequences.

Yup, he smashed the nail to bits with the hammer of logic that he just slammed on it.
It's so good, I had hard pants.

And I understand that, but at this stage no one should be of the view that anything the AFL or media have said is the complete truth. We have barely spoken about our side of the story, everything out there is what has been driven by the foamers of society. Yes, there are two sides, but our side hasn't even crowned the anus of the general public yet. I still maintain we'll come out of this looking like absolute giant killers

"Let 'em boil in their own juice" - Alan Jones in regards to the AFL.

Not being Alan Jones' biggest fan (if at all) that is classic stuff, and how I hope it comes true.

Let us be clear. These are the things I believe the club did wrong last year:
  1. The club had bad paperwork last year.
  2. The club let down Dr Reid by employing a 'charming' salesman who led the club down a risky and new age path.
  3. The club probably didn't step in quick enough to shut down the program.
  4. The club should have gathered more information for itself about each substance Dank wanted to use etc etc.
  5. The club should have kept better records of what was being used.
  6. The club could have been more pro-active in its oversight and management of the supplement program
That's it. No more. That is what we did wrong.

Let those who are without sin cast the first stone...

This is worth a punishment of a fine AT WORST... and yet we have been punished with:
  1. Disruption (ongoing) to our 2013 campaign
  2. Invasive drug investigation with multiple leaks
  3. Allegation upon allegation of untrue facts
  4. damage to the reputation of players and officials and the club
  5. unchecked smear campaign that exceeds anything seen since some fox up north..
  6. rumour around our right to participate in the 2013 Finals Series
  7. Suggestions that Jobe Watson should rescind his earned Brownlow medal
  8. Daily media stories about our 'club in crisis'.
  9. Ongoing sensational headlines and stories that are mostly untrue highly exaggerated
  10. Damaging and illegal leaks of confidential information
  11. Failure to adhere to process
  12. Denial of natural justice

I kind of feel we have paid for whatever mistake we made - and then some! Time to drop this AFL and let us move on gracefully.

You'd think so wouldn't you? But in addition to several members of staff being shown the door or stepping aside, the AFL wants to

a) take away our right to play finals
b) fine us more than any club has ever been fined
c) take away our draft picks thereby any realistic chance of being competitive for the next 5-10 seasons

for the charges of

a) not taking illegal supplements
b) poor governance

No hearing into Gold Coast and Nathan Bock re: CJC1295. No hearing into Melbourne and the use of AOD9604 with Trengove. The trumped up charge sheet criticizing us (amongst other things) for using or enquiring about actovegin, a substance used by Max Rooke at Geelong, no hearing there...

I wonder who those clubs will be siding with at today's meeting? Get Essendon, and sweep it all under the carpet I'd reckon. Bulldogs have already come out in support of the league publicly, hoping for a better handout next year or a share of the $2m no doubt. But it isn't us against them now is it?

(a) It wasn't an interview where she was questioned.
(b) Responsibility for what? Essendon and the individuals remaining are not contesting responsibility for poor recruitment and supervision. They are contesting being labeled as drug cheats who did not care about player safety. Additionally, Hamilton, Dank, Robinson, Robson & Evans are no longer at the club.
(c) Of course I feel sorry for the mother. I feel for all the players and their families. I also remain open to the notion that while Hird is culpable of making some mistakes, that he deserves the benefit of doubt in deciding whether those mistakes should directly and solely correspond to the outcome.
(d) Charge sheet. Not evidence. Not even the most recent charge sheet. The AFL have major conflicts of interest and a strong reason not to see this end in court. At the same time they have commercial reasons why they need to be seen to be taking a hard line on drugs, even though no infractions have been made.
I don't believe the AFL would make up all of that to be honest. There is a lot at stake for them to publicly release lies. The environment at the club was not safe for players, regardless of who was involved. Someone must have been responsible of that. Reading Reid's email, Hird must have had knowledge of what went on and he didn't provide a duty of care. That is my concern.

Hamilton, Dank, Robinson, Robson and Evans left the club. What about the senior coach who also oversaw all of this? Doesn't he have any responsibility? Last time I read the charge sheet, it didn't say Hird was a drug cheat. Rather, it outlined negligence from some senior staff. Is it in the interest of the club and its future for him to remain as our senior coach while battling it out in court? Is it in the interest for our club in the long term to continue this rubbish? Regardless, this is my view and all I want is for this to end.

I thought this was for EFC fans only?

Totally agree, this is where Hirdy is right to call for a public hearing.

This issue needs to be resolved in an open and transparent manner, we have admitted where we went wrong and steps have been made to correct that.

The issues surrounding the lack of reference checking is a case in point, sure the board needs to explain it to the members but it is not illegal to not check references, the majority of jobs particularly in small business are filled with minimal reference checks.

The OH&S issues if so serve is a clear matter for Worksafe.

A number of the charges appear to have been made look nothing more than to be a set of ambit claims
