Theres a very high chance the phone is fine i found an iphone 12 that was in salt water when i was doing a kayak tour . Dried it out charged it and it turned on and call the owner . No shite she lost it on australia day and i found it a year and half later. Somwone else either planted the phone in the location or he threw it and it landed on a bank if the perp was next to the dam they wouldve hoiked it into the middle

Yes, what I meant was re the fitness app tracking. Could the phone have been turned on, the app resumed tracking, then it powered down when it was thrown in the dam. Could this have given them a specific location of the phone?

LE spoke of new intel about a month ago which sparked a new search. Ive got a feeling someone else was involved with hiding her body or they have info on what went down and have been giving info anonymously

She could've had emergency sms feature on. And if they sent the sms to people in the Ballarat district asking for assistance or to be on high alert like those amber alerts
she would've got the smswhich could could've been the last ping

The phone is fine for data retrieval and yes they used her fitness apps that link back to whatever website for information. It was stated earlier in this case that after looking at her fitness tracking information etc they could see her travelling at particular, speed, pace and heart rate when there was a sudden change and it's believed that's when she was interfered with.

They've charged him w/ murder. So the police clearly have some information/evidence that directly links him with a her -body and or death, irrespective of the phone found. he conjecture on what that is, is the most interesting point.

Maybe the reason why the phone seems to be in good order and all her cards etc were still in there is the perpetrator might want to get the phone back at some point, maybe as a trophy ? But as a quick hide, it was placed there. Are the owners or renters connected ? Police have been around there before

I wonder if she has a Strava or an equivalent? Anyone running 20km+ at 7am is a fairly serious runner and would most likely be tracking their runs.

The assumption being I would expect shes run the route that she took before and they should be able to retrace her steps via various logged runs

The police have publicly stated that is what they believe. But you are correct, the actual physical evidence has not yet been presented. It probably will in the trial.

Last photo released, I’m sure police wouldn’t state publicly she went for a run if she didn’t leave the house, I’m sure they have footage of her actually leaving they just haven’t released it.

Yes. The police had said based on mobile data that she ran as far as Mt. Clear.

If you’re a runner, especially one in training, then Sunday is known as long run day. Sunday morning runners are up at the crack of dawn getting ready for a long run.

Interesting aside about how good our phones are…
My son was in a car accident recently, in the back seat of an Uber.
He said he was looking at YouTube videos when the car was run into, the Uber did a couple of 360s and the phone flew out of his hands.
When the car came to a standstill Siri said something like I think you have been in a car accident and I’m going to contact emergency services and then dialed 000 for him .

Thankfully nobody was hurt but I did think how amazing it was that his phone recognized what was happening.

Wow that’s Interesting. So if iPhone 12 survives in salt water for 18 months the then SM’s phone will almost certainly survive in 1m of fresh water for 3 months. They probably won’t need any tech experts, just turn it on. Providing the front or rear glass wasn’t cracked. Hopefully someone in her family knows the pin otherwise they could have major problems with Apples security protocols.

It’s a shame that police are giving us such little information. What evidence have they got on POS ? That he was in the area at the time, on drugs and made similar tracks to SM on Sunday morning ? Surely that have something more substantial like finding SM’s dna in his car ?
