Schoey in 22 but not Thorp or Dowler!!

Must say, I would have thought one of Dowler or Thorp would be picked ahead of Schoey. I know it could all be smoke and mirrors and Thorp, as an emergency, could be playing anyway, but it's a big statement, for mine.

Dowler and Thorp are more developed at both end of the grounds. AC doesn't usually include someone just to give them exposure.

Schoey as given limited game time and looked a class above.

No way, Dude.

Thorp and Dowler showed more in this pre-season than their aggregate years before - especially against West Coast in our last practice game.

Shoey has had less preparation time too.

Not sure if you guys got to see the Hawks vs West Coast game, but he had 15 odd touches playing on the wing, kicked a goal, and apparently almost all of his touches were effective, good ones.

Hope he has a ripper.

Yeah, Schoey looked real good against West Coast. I expect he won't be out of his depth tomorrow.

You dont select blokes on their age or how many preseasons they have done. If they can play, you pick them. Schoey can play from what I have seen. Very comfortable at the level - more comfortable than Dowler and Thorp. He is an exciting prospect with his size. Will be worth about 10 games to him this week.

Based on our track record of late changes from last year you would have to think that someone wont come up. Would be good to see Thorp out there. Am disappointed Stoker isnt in the side.

I am not to worried about Schoey's inclusion.What i am worried about is our marking skills in the back half and i do not thing we can afford to have both Guerra and Suckling in the same side because neither are particually good below there knees and not much chop over head.With Birchall aswell it makes us fairly weak when the ball is in the air and we are going to have to rely on Hodge,Gilham,Brown and Murphy in the air and contesting over head.

Good luck to the guy. All I hear about him is that he's a smooth mover - can't wait to see him on the big stage.

The backline doesn't look all that undermanned for mine - pretty happy with that. Congrats to Gilly for getting up for the game.

We're definitely in with a chance guys. Would feel a lot more confident with Lewis, Campbell and Ellis in there.

imo based on Dowlers game in defence against WC i would have had him for in the squad for r1. But also on that day thou shoey looked great, he showed poise and made the correct decision everytime he got the ball.. so good luck to him, and glad big Al has included him!

No surprise with whitecross.. the kid can play he showed that in the few games last year.. and really the only reasons he wasnt there in finals was of the stregth of our squad, and because he left his run too late.. id expect him to be in our 22 come september this year.

sucklings inclusion was the the one that i was unsure about. but i havent seen that much of him either so cant make a judgement.. any thoughts??

I think it's quite a good line,i like it especially the backs don't look too bad and great to see three new players being selected,just look at Carlton they picked four new players and wiped the pants off the Tigers.
I'm feeling fairly confident against Geelong and reckon we will take it right up to them.
Also looking forward to see Shoey.

It's a young mans game now and a fast mans game. Thorp, Dowler and Morton need to show some speed off the mark or they're in trouble.

Shoey will play 15 games this year.

When you see Shoey train it makes you think that he might have been a late grower. He moves like a midfielder, very smooth, like he has just all of a sudden grown, but already knew how to move. Not unlike Birchall when you think about it, for his height, he moves like a mid too. Good luck to him, and whitey and suckers. Stokes must think he is stiff, but I think its just a like for like thing, stokes doesnt really play the same role as any of those missing. Having said all that, don't be suprised to see Gilly or Birch out of the final team.

I'm suprised that Thorp & Dowler aren't playing but good luck to the debutents, they showed good signs in the NAB Cup.

AC must think shoey is a bigger prospect for the future then beau and mitch.
I'm very excited for shoey i think he could be very big for us but i'm not sure if it is the right sort of match to introduce him to the game. Maybe he should of waited until round 4 or 5(port @ MCG) (WCE @ AU).

Its only because they are top ten picks that we assume they have to be good players!! It doesnt always work out like that and in all honesty injuries included! theyve both shown little since theyve been at the club!! unfortunate but true!! GO SCHOEY U GOOD THING!

I'm not surprised in the slightest. Neither Thorp or Dowler we're convincing in the pre-season games and to bring them in just on the basis that Trent Croad is out would be stupid.

Clarko shouldn't give either a game until the earn it. Thus far they have not.
