Schoey in 22 but not Thorp or Dowler!!

regards to dowler n THORP!

Its only because they are top ten picks that we assume they have to be good players!! It doesnt always work out like that and in all honesty injuries included! theyve both shown little since theyve been at the club!! unfortunate but true!! GO SCHOEY U GOOD THING!
Exactly. Still though against such a good attack in Geelong a bigger body can go a long way.

Oh yea and good luck to Dawson for his game for the Sainters this week. You will always me an honorable Hawk to me :)

Says more about Thorp and Dowler then it does about Schoey imo. Shows that they're either not ready yet to be selected or Schoes has gone past the two and will be chosen ahead of them.

Having said that, there is every chance Gilly wont get up for this game and late change will be made.

What's wrong with big Campbell? Also where does this leave Morton can't get a game with 7 out same with timmy Boyle. Both in trouble by the looks of things

Morton's form over the pre season wasn't great, so he hasn't warranted a selection.

Tim Boyle has been struggling ever since Buddy landed on his early last year, and has only recently started full training.

shooey's not up to it!!! neither is suckling!!! whats going on with the chairman of selectors? thorp should've been included and still might get a run instead of gilham.... please hawkers do not stuff up this game at the selection table!!!

No offence boss but i'm sure you don't have the credibility of the hawks selection committee, remember they helped lead us to a premiership.

People can argue either way who should be selected but what i and most other hawks supporters have come to accept is that Clarkson knows exactly what he's doing. Drafting Dew, Hodge to defence, rolling zone...the list goes on of initial moves that were not popular with the majority but as soon as it was put into play it changed the entire team, and won us our 10th premiership.
If it was Judge or Schwab playing these 3 debutants you'd be thinking WTF but with Clarkson you know he has a plan and reason for every single move.

Pumped for tonights game. Go Hawks!

its about time some of us hawk supporters get it into our heads that Thorp and Dowler are simply not AFL players, box hill is their go. Pelchen made some horrible recruiting mistakes, these two players the standout mistakes, both players have had thier time to make it but cant cut it, to think we went for thorp ahead of selwood is unbelievably poor judgement, luckily we got Buddy , roughy and cryil otherwise our recruiting would have been an out and out disaster in the last few years

From memory in recent years the other times that we had 3 debutants was last year if you count Dew, Stokes and Cyril, against Syndney Buddy, Miller Thurgood and can't remember who it was against but Sammy, Hodge and big Robbie also played their first game together. Some handy players in those groups. We might get beat tonight but we will get an exciting glimpse of our future, don't we love our beautiful left foot kicks. Clarko and co have secected long kicking left footers to peirce the zones of modern football that he has partly created.

Shoenmakers would have been selected before the others because of his extra agility and ability to play on the wing, forward or small and tall in defence. Good luck to him and the other debutants. I expect Whitecross to start in defence on a gamble or a stokes, with the others on the pine.

You'll need a flame suit buddy. That's blasphemy on this board. :p

While I agree that I don't think Thorp or Dowler will make it at Hawthorn, it's not to say they may not make it somewhere else. They've had to struggle through injuries and well, look at the foward line.. almost impossible to crack into that. So perhaps if we can't get them time this season, or they can't force our hand by form at Box hill, we should consider moving them on and letting the boys try their hand elsewhere.

I understand nobody wants to see them leave the Hawks, but if we can't find room for them in their team, and they can't force / secure a spot in the team, what more can we do.

Ouch!

I still have hope for Dowler and Thorp. I'd just like them to be played in their best positions all year and taught to play them well, whether at BH or at Hawthorn.

For mine, that means Thorp as a forward and Dowler... actually, I don't even know anymore.

where the hell is Ben Mcglyn, and whats wrong with Robbie campbell

Benny Mac has a foot injury, if I'm not mistaken wasn't he in a moon boot a few weeks ago? According to the Hawks site, is 2-3 weeks away.

I dunno where Robbie Campbell is though.:(

I have hope for them too, however do we play them in their positions just for the sake of trying to get them to where we want them to be, over somebody who is in better form or a better player then they are?

Campbell's still got the thumb/hand injury from pre-season. Wasn't expected to play - but was forced to due to # of outs.

In pre-season, Suckling played the "Hodge" role - even down to calling the shots with the zone - that suggets to me that maybe his football nous has caught up to this feet.

Schoenmakers is most likely going to be in/around the mix come end of season - why not give him a run in front of a big crowd when he's 'up', fit and confident in himself - the worst that can happen is he learns a hell of a lot.

Regarding Thorp/Dowler - I beleive they are both struggling due to their mental makeup. Thorp has the goods anywhere, but mentally is a forward - whereas available positions are in defence. Dowler has attributes ideally suited to defence, but doesn't have the 'aggression' for the contest that Thorp does.

As a KPD, I doubt either are particularly better than Dawson was last year. Hopefully they can 'regain' some of their junior ability with confidence and settling into a role at Box.

You're not by any chance a disgruntled Richmond supporter who has decided to jump ship after last night but bring with you the negative/pathetic attitude that their supporters possess??

C'mon mate, this was a silly post! First of all, had Thorp and/or Dowler been selected for this game, you would have said that it's the beginning of their long & successful careers...secondly, maybe Shoey was selected due to team balance/needs...thirdly, simply because Shoey was selected does not give an indication that he is better than Thorp and/or Dowler - they play different positions...fourth of all, don't be surprised if there is a late change or 2, with Thorp being a late call-up...last of all, Kennedy was not selected this week either - does that mean he is useless??! No, it doesnt! He will eventually get a call-up because he has the goods, but it just won't be this week...

Actually, I lied...there is one more point - don't be surprised if both Thorp & Dowler end up being regulars in our 22 come the end of the season! I hope you will then swallow your pride and admit you words were extremely premature and wrong!

Anyways, enough of this! We are playing the pussies again in a few hours! Time to re-unite and show them who's boss! GO HAWKS!!!!!!!

Not really surprised Schoenmakers was selected, liked the look of him in a few preseason games and looks like he could rack up a few games this season.

I learnt along time ago not to question Clarksons decisions.....

Am very excited about the game tonight :thumbsu::thumbsu:

I agree totally go hawks and lets smash them tonight!:thumbsu:

Some of you need to settle down.

Schoenmakers is going to be a good player. Smooth and an A Grade kick. At this stage he is a lot like Birchall but may develop into a good tall defender.

Whitecross is very solid both in playing style and physically. Very impressive pre-season. Not sure he'll actually play on the wing. More a replacement for Ladson but has great potential.

Suckers is the interesting one. Has come on in leaps and bounds, especially for those of us who remember him struggling to get a game at Box Hill mid-season last year. Once again very good kicking skills though.

Thorp, Dowler, Morton, Kennedy and Stokes are still in the mix and they will play at some stage depending on form, injuries and opposition structure. Not sure what happened to Morton in the practice games but he needs to lift.

Guerra has been great in the latter half of the pre-season. In fact his best pre-season for years apparently. I'm expecting an even bigger year from him. Not sure I agree that his problem is below his knees so much as overhead but anyway, look for a good year barring injuries.

Campbell has a leg injury but will hopefully be right next round.:thumbsu:

fellow hawkers dont get upset becuase I have said that I dont think Thorp and Dowler will make it, football is a tough tough business and you have to look at things very clearly, not how you wish or hope them to be, I will be the first one to eat humble pie if they do become players and I really hope they do, but after watching every hawk and box hill game for the past 3 years the writting is on the wall for these 2, I Do feel sorry for Thorpy as injury has really stuffed him up, hopefully he may get a start elsewhere in the future rather than trying to get into the senior forwardline which is almost impossible, the point is now to learn from our recruiting mistake , get smarter and move foreward.

Great to see the newies coming in, but also have to admit, a bit surprised by the absence of Thorp.
My mate who barracks for the bombers has his eyes on him, i tell him to get stuffed.

We have this great thing now called depth. Blokes fighting for positions, members passionate about who's NOT getting a game.
Fantastic!
What a great few years we have ahead of us.

ND The man with all the answers. I hope Suckling can continue his preseason form, his disposal by foot is excellent. In his first game he looked a bit worried with his one on one work but looked better in his second game. It will be a tough introduction to football for him. Lets just hope he gets a few chances to drop the footy lace out for Roughead and Franklin

Shows Thorp & Dowler that they need to earn their spot well done to F1 who after 3 nappy cup games has gone above Thorp & Dowler in the pecking order was really surprised Tuck wasn't named he was the stand out in the nappy cup games imo in Clarko i trust cant wait for the game BRING IT ON!
