Thoughts on Shane Woewodin?
A legend before his time
Would have won 3+ brownlows if he was playing in the 2016-2024 era!

Thoughts on Shane Woewodin?
Some may think Le BronExcept... many do indeed rate Le Bron as the GOAT, given he (like Pendlebury) just continues to add to his legacy.
As for the last 25 years, there are a clear top 3 - GAJ, Buddy and Judd.
Pendlebury is comfortably in the conversation as #4, with a handful of others.
Bit personal, did he kiss your mum?Some may think Le Bron
is the GOAT, Jordan thinks Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT.
Nobody thinks Pendlebury is in the top 4 players of the last 20 years.
Except you and that’s because you live in a world of delusions.
Never change Fadgey, never change.
Yep he kissed my mum.Bit personal, did he kiss your mum?
Lots of ways to cut this cake, Pendlebury played more games at his best than any Richmond player I've ever seen.
You can look at stats or how he helped his side, and for consistency and preparation Pendles is up there with Buckley and Carey.
"Nobody thinks" maybe think about it a bit more yourself.
Recency bias. Also, Dusty cultists really hate Pendles for some reason.Bit personal, did he kiss your mum?

Here's one of the campaigners now.Good accumulator and durable but nothing special.
Who are your top 10 of the past 20 years, in order, out of interest? Genuinely interested to see where or if Pendles would feature in that.Yep he kissed my mum.
Nice.
No doubt he’s up there with Buckley, I rate Buckley higher as a footballer.
Do you think Pendlebury is a better footballer than Buckley?
Pendlebury is not in the top 5 footballers of the last 20 years.
He has played the most games and that’s an achievement.
"Good accumulator" describes someone like Jack Macrae when he was clear best 22. Maybe a Josh Dunkley, Tim Taranto or Darcy Parish.Good accumulator and durable but nothing special.
Yes he is a very good ball user but not a tough/ hard man in the tradition of other AFL greats like Skikton, Mathews, Lockett ect"Good accumulator" describes someone like Jack Macrae when he was clear best 22. Maybe a Josh Dunkley, Tim Taranto or Darcy Parish.
It undersells someone who's been an elite ball user and decision maker for well over a decade.
Pendlebury is definitely not a "good accumulator" - like you say it undersells him. I also don't think Dunkley fits that term either. One of the most underrated mids in the comp. His defensive work in the midfield is especially off the charts good. The Crouch/Taranto/Parish types more fit that category imo."Good accumulator" describes someone like Jack Macrae when he was clear best 22. Maybe a Josh Dunkley, Tim Taranto or Darcy Parish.

Surprise surprise, it's MR spinning his cherry picked stats for the 90th time in just this fred alone.3rd most successful Collingwood skipper of their last 3 skippers.
Had 1 year above 6 score involvements average since 2017 and that was 6.3. Which is roughly his career average. That number of score involvements would normally rank him around 20th amongst just midfielders in the AFL. Which calls into question claims he is an elite ball user.
Elite ball using mids would get elite score involvements.
He is the only mid or forward to ever play 30+ finals without scoring 10 goals.
Pendlebury would be in most clubs best 2-3 players of the 21st century. Not really in the discussion for the top handful of players AFL wide in the 21st century.
Scott - get the ball and actually go forward with it next time you have an AFL career please campaigner.
I should've clarified that I was focussing on their ball use only, not that Dunkley's is bad but it doesn't cut through sides the way Pendlebury has been able to.Pendlebury is definitely not a "good accumulator" - like you say it undersells him. Well yeah that's pretty clear. I thought you meant he just racked up lots of non threatening possessions.Yes he is a very good ball user but not a tough/ hard man in the tradition of other AFL greats like Skikton, Mathews, Lockett ect
Lebron not an NBA great ? your stupidity can not be overstated.unpopular opinion but Pendle's is like Lebron in the NBA, his longevity does not equate to greatness.
Is he in the top 10 footballers ever? is he in the top 10 footballers of the last 25 years?
both probably not. he is however a very good player who played for a long time. Maybe criminally under rated with what he has done but as he isn't a real game changer like the very best sees him a rung below.
(BTW, absolutely, I would love him at Essendon so no need to deflect or pretend this is a pissing post)
The reason I have Pendlebury at #4 in the 21st Century is quite simple.
I look at the respective players best X number of games / X number of seasons to deduce who the better player was.
Take Pendlebury v. Martin, for example.
Pendlebury has:
2 of the best 3 seasons;
3 of the best 5 seasons;
7 of the best 12 seasons;
12 of the best 20 seasons;
15 of the best 25 seasons;
And
53 of the best 100 games;
110 of the best 200 games;
168 of the best 300 games;
235 of the best 400 games:
290 of the best 500 games;
350 of the best 600 games.
I rate Bucks ahead of Pendles too.Yep he kissed my mum.
Nice.
No doubt he’s up there with Buckley, I rate Buckley higher as a footballer.

I enjoy the read though as always, ya aggravating campaigner.
To be fair, Richmond supporters haven't had many reasons to front up to games over the last few years...Non-threatening Scott #4 AFL player this century, lol.
86k turn up to the MCG to witness his 400th game between 2 teams in the finals hunt, with the biggest rivalry in footy, 4 weeks out from finals. 88k turned up to a match between the same 2 teams 3 months earlier. So 2000 people stayed home simply to avoid witnessing Pendlebury's 400th, so he didn't bore them to death.
In the dead of winter, same season, same venue, 92k turn up to witness Dusty's 300th game between teams sitting about 13th & 17th on the ladder, with the smallest rivalry in footy. A game that would normally attract a crowd around 45-50k. They turned up just to catch a glimpse and honour the greatest big game player in the sport's history, and for no other reason, just to say they were there.
The people spoke. And only Fadge didn't listen.
A. I doubt that very much, andJust to let you know, out of me & Nick Daycare in senior footy, I have played 15 of the best 18 seasons. After reading Fadge's post above, I now realise I was incredibly under-rated as a footballer.
BuddyWho are your top 10 of the past 20 years, in order, out of interest? Genuinely interested to see where or if Pendles would feature in that.
Very basic calculation.Buddy
Gaj
Dusty
Dangerfield
Judd
Goodes
Hawkins
Bontempelli
Pendlebury
Nick Reiwoldt
From the last 25yrs put together by Rohan Connolly and a couple of other blokes.
Points based system assessing players.
PEAK: (20points) How hood was their best
ACCOLADES: (10points)
LONGEVITY: (10points)
I think you need parameters in this sortve conversation otherwise it just spirals into a stupid merry go-round and it was done without bias.
I agree with it.
So Hawkins would be there with 250 games?Pendlebury wouldn’t be in there if he only played 250 games.
All the others would be.
