Season 2016

Wandin will finish top, this is only home and Away season.
Olinda v H/Ville grand Final.
No one will get near Healesville with the money they are spending topping it off with a couple of Darwin boys in the last week!!! They would be flag favourites for sure at this stage!!!!

Afternoon all,

Follower but 1st time post. Tend to agree with Dixie regarding Healesville. Solid improvement last year and looked to have improved list from last year. Not heard much about "Darwin" recruits??Olinda and Wandin to wrestle the next 2 spots with 4/5 a guessing game until about round 6/7. Upwey never to far away ever, so would be wise to keep them as the smokey....

Reading all comments and wish all the best to all clubs looking to win and improve in 2016. The best team should always win. Not the best paid team. Too many times in all divisions, the kids coming from the under 18s who are the absolute back bone of any clubs, are overlooked in favour of the football sluts. The points will help but it won't be tight until clubs put their juniors above the success. EFL Div 2 last year where the GF and semi were decided by over 300 pts. It's not gunna drag the punters through the gate when one club raises funds with chook raffles and the winner has corporate sponsorship. Should place their premiership cups in the cabinet and their credit card in front. Destroying club footy.

Wow!, only 9 teams in the under 18's and no Healesville and 2 of those teams are the result of clubs combining. Speaking of Healesville, is the David Clarke that has come across from the Heathcote league the David Clarke that played at Geelong? If so, looks like another handy pickup.

Yes it is.

Very surprising to see only 9 under 18 sides!!! Clearly some work required given the junior league looks to be very solid with plenty of grades and players. Heading to Emerald to watch the game against Monbulk tomorrow and should be a very competitive hit out for both parties.

Weren't hville u/18s premiers last year??? Surely there money would be better invested in a junior type program than flying two blokes in from Darwin to buy a flag this year???? Woori and Olinda the only ones still adopting a local ups mentality at this stage!!!!

Only two blokes not from Wessy Juniors playing for Warburton tomorrow.

Good outcome Adam in some eyes but a balanced approach required to get silverware in today's environment. Having looked over the past 3/4 years of under 18 finals, the teams competing in the senior GF's have had consistent representation in their under 18's.

So your advocating paying 18s

I think you might find hville did not have the numbers coming up from the u16 and it wasn't threw a lack of trying. I see a lot of teams have merged as well in the u18 so I gather it's a problem across the board. As for investing in there juniors you just have to take a look how many they have got in there senior side tomorrow that have come threw in the past 3 years, so in my opinion they don't have a problem with that, remember they didn't have an u18 in 2012, played finals in 13 and then went back to back. As for the Darwin boys good luck to them and the club, looking forward to seeing how they go tomorrow. The I

No point having Under 18's if your not going to play them when there seniors. No wonder clubs get themselves in trouble.

Certainly an ongoing issue
Healesville and Olinda without unders would suggest how fluid the issue is
Clubs are trying hard but sometimes it doesn't work out
The points system will encourage nurturing of the young talent over time

Not at all toxic!!! Healesville were obviously pretty close to fielding u/18 as they were still in the league draft fixture up until last week and with a town population as great as what they have you cant help but think if the same amount of effort/money that was put into recruiting (some blokes the wrong side of 35) was put into getting their u/18 going we wouldn't be having this conversation!!! When I refer too money I am merely suggesting what other clubs have incorporated in the past with free membership, free sox and shorts, better cash awards, etc!!! Great effort by warby Adam but agree with at a glance that you need a mixture of both to be a threat at the pointy end

Of course but at what cost. Do you put ego in front of long term survival, I think not.

First time we've had no U18s since 1993, which is a good run given recent struggles with this age group across the comp. Unfortunately we look like we could be in a similar position in 2017 unless we can perform a minor miracle. OFC & UTFC merged in U16s last year, that group may reunite in 2017, lots of background work required this winter !!!

Saw Poweltown against the junction and bad kicking is always called bad football. But of the 19 points PT kicked 12 were from set shots. Not sure how the other sides will stack up but this was a high quality game with both sides having their pure moments. The junction are very good on the spread when they get the ball in the back half and will hurt plenty of teams. Quick mossie brigade who run and run. All that said, PT should have got the candy today, plenty of last quarter surges but just made bad decisions time and again as they won the ball in the mid field. This was a great game of footy and no malice so congrats to both clubs.

Saw Healesville Upwey today. 3/4s of the game was brilliant. Upwey's second quarter was nothing short of brilliant, the way they won the clearances and used the momentum whilst it was there's was the game winner. Overall, can't see either team not being there come finals.

So with all the talk on here lately about Healesville and Wandin, and with no disrespect to Upwey or Mount Evelyn, who was the biggest loser out of those two?
