Five weeks in and a couple of things to ponder. Yarra Glen couldn't get a kick in a street fight in first division last year and sit on top of the table in second division undefeated. Emerald, who were premiers in second division last year, are yet to open their account and sit second bottom in first division. Just how big is the gap between the two divisions?

Round six looks like having a beauty between two undefeated teams in Olinda and Woori. Even though I'm not one for tips, I tend to think that Olinda have their noses in front as it will be played at their ground. Will also be a good test test for their new coach who has come across from Woori. Hopefully the weather is kind (by Olinda's standards anyway).

Will also be a good test for Upwey who play Wandin. Scott Dwyer returned today with a lazy nine goals and Joel Coombes bagged eight in the two's. Even though Wandin got touched up by Olinda two weeks ago, I still have them as the team to beat at seasons end.

One versus two and three versus four; too bad we have to wait for a fortnight for it to be played out.

Speaking to players from both clubs they get annoyed blokes play in Div 2 win the flag then leave. Then once they get relegated they then come back. That being said the jump is huge.

Having a look on the history page of the league website supports your suggestion that the jump is huge. Olinda in 2009 and Healesville in 2013 are the only two premiers from second division in recent history that are travelling alright at the minute, even though Olinda were only a game away from being relegated, again, a couple of seasons ago. Emerald in 2011 and Belgrave in 2012 had a good year or two but it couldn't be sustained.

I read an interesting article not long ago where Ross Oakley talked about the "personality" of clubs coming to the fore when the pressure was on. Over the years how many clubs have been intimidated by Upwey and Woori, yet feel comfortable against the clubs mentioned above?

Obviously no great for Div.2 content on here, but if someone from Yarra Junction is on here I'd love to know how No.66 ended up last night. He Finished the game on the park but I was with him with 5 or so minutes to play and he was in a little discomfort so we got the Ambo's to run an eye over him once they sorted out our guy who got knocked out.

For what it's worth our guy pulled up ok thank god.

Extract from the MPFNL website:

The MPNFL Senior Squad versus Northern FL will be selected from the best players available. Whilst the second game versus AFL Yarra Ranges which has been named the “MPNFL Young Guns” will be made up of the younger talent in the MPNFL in an opportunity to expose them to interleague football.

Wouldn't want to lose to a "young guns" team (whatever that means, probably just a nice way of saying you're not good enough to make the interleague team).

...given that a player 'bravely" defending his mate with a king hit on Fev from behind.......?

Dixie N: Replacing a player who is sent off defeats the whole purpose of the send-off.
Keep it as it is.

Monniehawk - Are you on the same page Hump is talking about an incident last week!!!!!!!!

Also thought you were to smart to try an resurrect an incident from 4 or 5 years ago, probably only 10 players from both sides still playing, I would have thought you would be on the reconciliation train between the clubs, which is happening as it was pleasing to see the players and officials from both teams mixing in the Social Rooms after a really hard fought game by both teams played in great spirit.

Hump - for your info the player suspended for Fev has a name starting with the same letter as your name, not even close to the player you are slagging.

Seen 4 YV games this year and my early view is the sniping off the ball in this league is almost non existent compared to other leagues. Some hard at big bodies but no off the ball, end of his career clips at the young quicker kids. PT finally got the lollies and now 2 & 5. (Should have had at least 4 in the W. Column) but that aside, if they click and get their 50 entries right, will have a huge impact come the pointy end. Eweing is killing it and the effort around the contests by their big mid is winning the ball and just feeds the runners who are turning it over. Get it right and kick straight and PT will be there at the finish.

Anyone know about the so called hit behind play in the reserves healsville v mt ev? Ambo called and game called off?

Can anyone tell me if the 1994 Kinglake v south Belgrave grand final was video recorded? If so, how would you get a copy

Number 44 already told you.

Wandin starting to piece back together. Was wandin that good or was belgrave that poor?
Monbulk lose again 3 thus far
Only lost the 4 last season and have wandin and woori to come before mid break
How good are undefeated woori and olinda? Next 2 weeks are telling they face off this weekend then back it up with hard games the following week
Upwey the same deal with wandin then mt ev who have shown there no push over this year
Will be watching with a lot of interest the next few rounds are going to be crackers

Belgrave are POOR

Thought Belgrave we ok. We played them at home and got home by 5-6 goals. If they kicked a bit straighter (19pts) might have been a bit closer. Warby this week at home and expect this to be close. Week off has helped and hopeful of a couple back. Top 4 playing off so should be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Had a look at all Div 2 games over the break and a couple of Div 1 games and picked up a theme from the umpiring decisions. The advantage from a free kick seems to be not part of the agenda. Saw many many instances of where a free kick is paid and the side on the break is called back when there is a clear advantage. Saw a number of decisions which in real terms disadvantaged the side with the free kick. A huge one was Seville v PT and the play maker was clear for Sevelle and they called the leather back to the kick. In a tight finish it did not look good but looking across the games it would seem this is the norm.

Round 6 - Tips
Emerald V Healesville
Monbulk
v Warby
Mt Evelyn v Belgrave
Olinda Ferny Creek v Woori Yallock
Wandin
v Upwey

Division 2
Alexandra v Yea
Powelltown

Upwey to beat wandin tomorrow after too many wandin blokes can't sleep due to worrying too much about no.44!!!! Maybe hump it was just a "accidental collision" like the Mick walker/Blake Walter incident.... Oh wait.... Didn't walky boy get 8 weeks????
