Millsy?

Who are Bice and Paton replacing out of Blakey, Florent or Roberts?

Lloyd was already being pushed up to the wing, so can't be him.
It's really tough. If we have another relatively injury-free year, they'll need to bang the door down in the reserves to get in.

But I don't see Roberts has a defender, the same with Florent. Their strengths are better used in the midfield/wing, but then who do you drop from the midfield?

Our playing list is absolutely stacked with talent at the moment and it's a good issue to have. We need 28-30 players capable of playing good football in the AFL, and we're right on that edge at the moment.

In your scenario, you drop Florent or Roberts.

If we're to assume our main wingman trio is Gulden, McInerney & Lloyd, then Florent or Roberts probably have to be better than any of them. Can't see it myself, but you never know. Lloyd is 31, maybe he declines a bit and they get an opening.

Roberts had a great year, got our rising star award.

I don't know why we'd move him. I get that he's the most likely to move out for Bice, I would just not bring Bice in.

Florent had also moved further afield later on. But in all likelihood he will swing between wing and half back, with Jmac and Gulden the key wingers.

And why not, because our intercept/rebound game was dominant for the first half of the year with Blakey, Roberts, Florent, Jmac etc the rebound personnel from/around D50.

Warner can get out of the midfield (a reduction at least), but it's for Mills and Sheldrick, for a more contested edge.

Sorry DQ but going on season 2024, Rowie is worth far more than Captain fantastic!
The official (trademarked) Craig Bird formula employs a complex rolling average formula, with correlation factors built-in to account for statistical interference and likelihood functions within interquartile ranges.

Ergo, you are wrong.

I'm assuming the instruments were broken on our 2 recent grand final days.

Dubai Quacker I can't believe you only rated Gus 1.1 Craig Birds! Are you sure it's not wrong? How sure? How can you be so sure??

People who think Florent is going to be dropped are kidding themselves. Not just about the likelihood of it happening but also undervaluing him. The coaches know his worth better than anyone and he has been a top 10 player for the past 5 years I reckon. There is an argument that despite his ability he just doesn't fit in the structure and doesn't have a clear position etc. but I still don't buy it.

Some interesting bits from Cox on RSN this morning:

There'll be some positional changes they'll look at over the pre-season

Contest was inconsistent throughout the year, so method which they go about that

Keeping ball in the front half for as long as possible, set up behind the ball really important

Couple of personnel changes straight off the bat in pre-season

Audio:

Even if they get it wrong three cheers for addressing the 🐘 in the room.

Sounds like he was also told on Tuesday the 19th that it was going to happen and thus he went into full control of coaching duties for the draft.

Thus probably didn't want this chaos to happen on the eve of the draft

Seems to me like Adnico26Parker has pointed to a focus on the forward 50 and a restructure there, with more focus on pressure forwards i'd lean that to meaning decreasing the amount of Key forwards.

Also says there will be personnel changes straight away would say that would mean guys like Sheldrick, Datolli, Bowman and Mills are all or some will be in the rd0 side.

Good stuff.

Contest setup, forward pressure etc.

Hopefully positional changes include 2 KPFs and Warner to half forward, with Mills and Sheldrick to centre bounces.

If we can keep the ball up forward more, and improve our clearance and pressure work, I look forward to comments about how "our defence has really improved this year".
Who would have known that dump kicks out of ur forward 50 are easier to defend.

My R0 lineup based on Cox's promising comments:
B Rampe Melican Cunningham
HB Blakey McCartin Roberts
C Gulden Mills McInerney
HF Warner McDonald Cleary
F Papley McLean / Amartey Hayward
Foll Grundy Rowbottom Heeney
Int Lloyd Florent Jordan Sheldrick
Sub Campbell

Datolli, Fox, Bice, Wicks and Adams all in the mix.

"The best defence is a good offense".
More like "The best defence is a team defence".

We've operated sometimes on the principle of "The best defence is a... nah just kidding, let the ball waltz out of F50 and/or through the middle, good luck to the plebs in the backline who can't even get their own highlight reels".

Then fans pile on the defenders as well.
