Although I'm reluctant to veer off-topic too much (kidding, I don't give a fu**), I went down a bit of a rabbithole researching the war on drugs in isolation. It's such a mess, and such a cesspool of blatant corruption, overt racism, and ruining human lives and crippling important medical research, and sadly it's hard to ever see it ending, given the financial power of those responsible.

It's amusingly ironic, but also quite sad that capitalism is likely the only way that any drug will ever be legalised (because lawmakers are more likely to be convinced by savvy business grads doing the groundwork lobbying for it because they see the financial potential than they are hippies lobbying for it because of a love for the drug).

The 1980s was a really depressing time in human history, and a lot of it can be summed up by "**** Regan and Thatcher". The war on drugs, the difficulty it is to get climate change action and all of that all goes back to those scumbags.

But yeah, that whole thing and turning the prisons into a profit making entity was really disgusting. It's also very sad that'll be the inevitable reason why, though there is a pragmatic part to me that is willing to turn a blind eye to the why if the desirable result occurs.

Hey, sure we may need to reallocate some of our financial resources, but suggesting we dip into the 95% cultural events spend is a step too far. We may be a qooty club, but we still need to run important piss-ups social events for the wider community.

You can always survive on less. Drink goon and VB instead of fancy craft brews and bottles of grange, and you could both save the club and be able to show of your mediocre body to girls.
