Let's start with a bit of humour:
At the end of the tax year, the ATO sends a tax inspector to audit the books of the local hospital. While the taxman is auditing the books, he turns to the executive of the hospital and says, "I notice you buy a lot of bandages. I imagine there's a lot of wastage there. What do you do with the end of the roll when there's too little to be of any use?"
"Good question", says the executive. "We save them up and send them back to the bandage factory, and every now and again, they send us a free roll."
"Oh", says the taxman - somewhat disappointed that his unusual question resulted in a practical answer. However he is now firmly mounted on his favourite hobby horse, and ready to be critical. "What about all these plaster purchases? What do you do with what's left over, after setting a cast on a patient?"
"Ah yes", replies the executive, who actually didn't have a clue, but rising to the challenge, he says, "We save that too, and send it back to the manufacturer: every now and again they send us a free bag of plaster."
"My, my - an answer for everything", responds the auditor, who also fancies himself as a bit of a sharp wit. "So what do you do with all the remains from circumcision surgeries?"
Without batting an eyelid, the executive says, "Here also, we have no wastage. What we do is, we save all the little foreskins and send them to the tax office, and about once a year they send us a complete prick."
We're entering the home stretch in season 33, and every game from here on in is critical in shaping the make up of the 8. This game is a battle between a team that's currently just inside the 8, and a team that's trying to get in - but given the tightness of the ladder, things could improve dramatically for the victor here. Let's look at some of the key stats in the lead up to the big game:
Dragons FFC:
Current ladder position: 6th
Last 5 games: WDWWL
The reigning premiers have displayed fairly reasonable form, with 3 wins and a draw in the last 5. They're only 1 win outside the top 4, so if teams above them stumble, they're ready to strike.
Fighting Furies:
Current ladder position: 12th
Last 5 games: LLLLL
One thing you can say about the Furies - at least they're consistent
. Having not tasted success since round 5, they'll want to turn things around quickly, or finals will quickly become a distant memory.Let's look at a few of the stars from round 10, who will be on the radar of the opposition as key targets to stop this week.
Dragons FFC:
DragoDelph - the Dragons centreman played a blinder in the high scoring affair against the Demons (the 2 teams scored 40 goals between them), amassing 30 possessions, 9 marks and 116 DT points. If he gets off the leash again this week, that spells danger for the Furies.
Blaze Storm - 23 possessions, 9 tackles and 96 DT points isn't a bad return from a forward pocket!!! I haven't checked the sim in detail - did he move around the field a bit?
Strigoi - one of the form ruckmen (should that be ruckwoman in this instance?) of last season had another blinder here: 16 hit outs and 30 possessions is a fair day out.
Fighting Furies:
GREENESHOOTS - you don't expect big numbers in a team that's struggling, but this ruck rover did OK with 17 possessions and 9 tackles.
crazywildhorse - the Furies centreman did OK with 19 possessions and 5 marks. But given the form of DragoDelph last week, you'd think he'd need to take his game to another level next Sunday.
scythe94 - made his debut on a half back flank, and played quite serviceably first up with 17 possessions and 4 marks.
Who wins?
On form, you'd have to give this one to the Dragons by around 23 points. But the sim can sometimes be a strange beast, so who knows?
