First up, let’s take a look at the away team. Coming into this final series, the Bombers were beaten by a Wonders team seeking the home advantage throughout their finals campaign, despite gab213 kicking 7 snags. But with 3 wins from 5 on the way home and Number 1 for points scored, the Gumbies found out just how battle tested the Bombers are in the SFA. The reigning premiers just need a sniff, and then BAT and his crew get to work. In fact, the Bombers undoing this year hasn't been their ability to score (that honour goes to the Phoenix), but their ability to also defend appropriately. If you ask them, some say they don't care at all about defense, choosing just to outscore whoever runs at them, and their ability to get punched and punch back has been evident in their game plan for numerous years. The reigning premiers will be tough to stop and perhaps no team in the league is better suited to do that than their opponents.

The Bombers had to wait until Round 14 to face the Warriors at home in the regular season, so one could assume the tactics, for better or for worse, are fresh in the mind and they understand the task ahead of them. The minor premiers rightfully are the team to beat, but as much as this game will feel like it's 'Everyone in the SFA' v the Bombers, that just fuels this list. Underestimate them at your peril.

CIW

Now, for the home team. The Coney Island Warriors. This team put on quite a show this season, being behind at the final siren only 4 times of 16 games, they've been impressive and the benchmark for most of the year. A small blip loss in Week 17 might have been a reality check, but rest assured, this is not the Phoney Island Warriors we've seen before. Searching for their maiden premiership, it would be difficult to not argue they are the favourite. In the same breath, a season this good means anything other than the ultimate prize is probably failure. They are second in points scored, losing out only to this week's opponents, the Bombers and do have a habit of letting teams score junk time points.

Nevertheless, this team has been injected with life since the addition of CursingFijian and have really showed a level of consistency that has left other teams in their wake. Watching their tape in the off-season and trying to recruit from their list are rumours already circulating around the SFA Community. There can be no better building block/foundation for finals. Time to shake off last week's loss and get back to winning ways. The time is now.

Last Time They Played

Baghdad Bombers 18.11.119 defeated by Coney Island Warriors 20.8.128

Weather: CLOUDY

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

BOM: iDon snozulu Jabba73 kickthething Pugsley
CIW: spudmaster

In their Round 9 stoush, the Bombers as the away team were up by as much as 31 points in the first quarter, before the Warriors fought back to be down by only 11 points at the main change. That momentum was quickly re-arrested though, as the Bombers kicked 8.6 in the second half to run out 44 point winners. Coming into Round 14 with a large part of the season already played, these two faced off for the second time this season, with this game at Abdu Prison in what some foretold as a preview to a potential Grand Final, albeit every week from here on in is a Grand Final, being win or go home. The Warriors, out for blood after being squashed in their earlier encounter, made sure they were on the winning end of a 247 point thriller, taking home the chocolates to even it up at 1-1 for the season.

Key Matchups

pantskyle v kickthething - Pants finished top of the league in hit-outs and is in a rich vein of form. He will be hard to stop in this contest, but whoever has the better first half in this matchup may well be a key deciding factor in who walks away the winning team.

gab213 v TubbsFarquhar - Gab is just a fortnight removed from a bag of 7 and won himself the FRED medal for good measure. It will be no secret that he will need to be kept in check, if he is up and about taking strong contested grabs there is every chance there could be an upset in the offing.

CursingFijian v snozulu - The aforementioned Fijian has brought a hardness to the warriors across the half-forward line that has seen their efficiency skyrocket in S35. How this match-up plays out will likely determine the % of Qooty played in the Warriors F50, and ultimately, may be the recruit of the century if it pays off and helps them go all the way.

spudmaster v SaintsSeptember - The old addage of experience versus youth. This will be a fun one, SS has shown plenty of grit and willingness to go in hard at the ball, but time and time again, veteran heads with Qooty IQ tend to come up clutch in big games. None more important for the Warriors than Spud. Need him to be up and about for 4 quarters for this one.

Final Thoughts
You thought the OOB v Furies game was the MOTR? Some will definitely disagree. You're only doing yourself a disservice if you aren't going to attend and watch this cracker. If the weather holds, it shapes as easily another 200+ point game with swings and roundabouts aplenty! Hoping for plenty of body on body action early as these two teams fight for a third time this year. Its the Old v the New up in here, let's see who exits victorious!
