I was trying to find a flight between Christmas and New Years and it was like triple the price compared with 10 days earlier.

Some years back, my employer used to let us all go for like 2 weeks around the Yule/NY holidays. Of course, schedule-wise this was an ideal time for me to fly out to visit my folks on the West Coast.

The problem with that, as you found, is that holiday travel sucks sweaty donkey balls. This is compounded with the fact that Pasadena CA hosts the Rose Parade & Rose Bowl college FB game every 01 Jan.

Not only do the airfares spike all around that time, but so do the hotel rates.

Ever pay US$1200 for a round trip COACH ticket? I have!
