Bruce's calling of Bontempelli's second(?) goal last night was spine-tingling.

“You know who. Of course it's him...it's Him.”

The way he said Him that second time was like he was referring to a deity.
Sent tingles to me when Stringer kicked his third and Bruce was like woooooooohh Strringerrrr yesssssssssss

Hi guys, really sorry to intrude. I usually don't stray too far from the Carlton board, but I've been thinking about the Dogs and in particular, Bob Murphy...

Three years ago, I was fortunate enough to coach a senior premiership. Three weeks before the grand final, one of our most loved, most respected, most decorated and most admired players did his shoulder. On grand final day, I put him on the team sheet, got him in the kit and sat him on our bench for the entire game. He went on the ground with about 6 minutes remaining in the game. My thinking was, that if anyone at our club deserved to be a premiership player, it was him. Effectively we played one short that day, but I have no doubt, his presence was a huge factor in us winning that day and his contribution was immeasurable. Obviously local footy is light years from the AFL, but....

If you guys get to the grand final (I'm tipping you will) , how would you feel if Murph played? It's been about six months, he can run, he can kick a footy...

I understand it won't happen and it's a crazy hypothetical. But I'd really be interested to know how you guys would feel if it happened.
I reckon it would mean more if Wood asked him to receive the premiership cup.

Bob was on 360 tonight and was asked how he is dealing with not being out there over the first couple of finals this year.

His response was that of course there are moments when he aches to be out there, but he couldn't be prouder of where the club is at and how the horizon keeps lifting, like it did last year when we beat Sydney away and like it did on Friday night when we overran Hawthorn in the SF.

He is integral to the culture of the place this year, but his name doesn't have to be on the team sheet for that to be the case.

Think you have answered your own question with how we would feel -- " crazy hypothetical"
Also disrespectful to guys that have got us that far since round 3.

Couple of moments in the call stand out for me.

Firstly when Dennis said "they kept their pose, THEY KEPT THEIR POISE!" For me that really summed up a turning point in the game and my nerves settled a lot after that.

Second one was when Stringer had that air swing and volleyed a shot at goal. Bruce just went "oh no, no, no, no". It was the moment when he realised that his beloved Hawks were really in trouble and that the Dogs could do anything. He was reeling at that point and had lost his composure totally. He had become a supporter and not a commentator.

Didn't think he was barracking there ........ just anticipating some more Stringer magic but it didn't come off

I think every player played in a Final's game for the premiers deserve a premiership medal.
That's an interesting one. You especially feel for the guys who suffer injuries during finals who otherwise might have been there. Part of the game I guess. However, while they may not get an AFL premiership medal, there would be nothing to stop the club itself commissioning say a FFC Premiers Finals Squad medallion for all players who played a finals game in a premiership winning finals campaign. I think it would actually be quite a good idea and would quite possibly mean a good deal to all the players, not just the ones who didn't make the field on GF day.

If I was part of a team that managed to get up during a premiership year I wouldn't need any medal or formal recognition outside the four walls of the club.

That doesn't add or detract value from what actually occurred in any meaningful sense.

A club commissioned medal would be recognition within the 4 walls. Any merit?

The way the NBA does it in America players rostered on during the season get a championship ring. Andrew Gaze got one in 1999 as his club won the NBA championship but he couldnt play finals because of injury.

Hypothetically, if you played senior footy (as a listed player or promoted rookie) this year you would get a premiership medal.. Maybe we can do the premiership rings?

That way guys like

- Murph
- Wallis
- Red
- Jong
- Webb
- Adams
- Hrovat

could also get one if we were to sneak in and win it.

Yeah it doesnt sit well with me that players who contributed to getting their team to the last game but couldnt play on the day go unrecognised. Everyone from the senior list should get something.

I have a division 1 EDFL premiership medal. Played almost every game (bar round 1 and 2) and did my hammy in the first final. We won the grand final and I didn't play - had a fitness test on the Thursday night training before the game. They gave me a medal (along with the coaches) as being a massive part of the team.

Can tell you, the medal means absolutely nothing. I appreciate the gesture but it honestly means nothing to me.

If you're not out there on the day you shouldn't get a medal.

So because it means nothing to you then it won't mean anything to anyone ever, and no one should get one? SOLID argument bro!

God I need to stop reading this forum I feel more stupid every time I come here.

Any player played in a do-or-die final to get their team the cup deserve the premiership medal i reckon.

have no problem for the players played in a home-and-away game getting one too. Just like how NBA does it.
