Eade was given Collingwood's blessing to be our senior coach, we just got someone better. He was never in line for the senior assistant job.

Richmond also gave Choco their blessing to join us.

Clubs don't fight for their assistants if the tob job is on offer. Every single coach has been there, and they know what it's like.

They gave their blessing for him to be interviewed. I'm sure we won't stop him being interviewed at the Saints if he wants to because an interview does not equal a job. At Melbourne they knew Roos was getting the job and had ample time to replace Choco if somehow he did go. This is a bit different since we're starting preseason and we'll now have to spend 2 weeks trying to find a replacement for him because St Kilda didn't want their trades to be impacted by the sacking of their coach.

Whatever happens happens but I'd be pissed at St Kilda if I was someone at the club.

Cant see us keeping him if he wants to go tbh. As you say, its common knowledge that if a senior gig is offered you release to let them take it. However, that still makes it understandable that our coaching team is annoyed as we have been forced into a position to look for a replacement when the pool to choose from has dramatically shrunk. Also and don't forget our reserve side kicks off this year as well, so its really awkward timing.

If lets say watters was sacked in the latter stages of the season or just after, all this would have been a non issue.

RICHMOND doesn't have a case to prevent assistant coach Mark Williams from pursuing the senior job at St Kilda, according to the AFL Coaches Association.
AFLCA chief executive Danny Frawley said Richmond had little choice but to release Williams if he was offered the senior job with the Saints.
"They haven't got a case," Frawley told AFL.com.au.
"There's nothing they can do if he's offered the senior role at St Kilda.
"They could offer him a longer-term deal, but it's very hard to stop an assistant becoming a senior coach.
"That's a job promotion, so there's not a lot the Tigers can do, I wouldn't have thought."

Williams, Tudor, Harvey, those are my preferences in order.

Let the other clubs be pissed at us, they're going to be anyway because we're not only looking for a new senior coach but also a new midfield coach plus any other changes that the senior coach wants to make.

if anything it may be partly to draw out a response from the coaches association to say that they won't allow a club to stand in the way of an assistant taking up a senior position elsewhere, as they have done in the past when the likes of eddie have whinged about it. just in case st kilda get cold feet.

Any more news on Richardson? If we miss out on Choco, he'd be the one I want (although he also might stay at Port), very good coach.
In case it hasn't been said a million times already, Richardson uprooted his life in Melbourne to commit to a plan to rebuild Port with Ken Hinkley. He is one year into that. Part of his role as director of coaching is to kick start a replenishing system which naturally produces strong coaches with relevant experience and training. Once his and Ken's vision is successfully executed I'm sure he'll enter the senior coaching fray again, however for this year at least hestated very early on that he is committed to this program at Port and as such refused to be interviewed for all 5 coaching positions this year- so save yourselves some time and strike him off the list!

Personally I'd love to see Choco as a senior coach again and think he is by far the best of a thin bunch. Imperative to having Choco as Senior Coach is a strong senior admin who let's him know where his boundaries are. He was a brilliant player developer, strong but firm with his team and more than passable as a match day coach. His best at Port was under the guidance of our great CEO Brian Cunningham, who knew how to manage Choco and bring out his strengths having known him as a young kid.

Plus he's a premiership coach! Obviously I'm biased but I'd love to see you give him another shot, he's a wealth of footy experience and knowledge and could be the strong figure your footy club needs. Best of luck.

They'll be more pissed in a couple of years when we leapfrog past the majority of clubs & we're back in the top 4 again..;)

Richardson was my preference but I knew we were no chance of getting him out of port. He is easily the next cab off the rank for a senior coaching gig in a pool of coaches that is seriously shallow..........

Richardson would the one I want as well - looks like he's staying at Alberton though

years?

Here I was thinking months... oh well, carry on...

If he's only waiting a few years, he should be ready the next time we sack our coach, if we're half as bad as everybody is making us out to be.

Choco has a contract with RFC for 1 more year, and he may be forced to honour that contract.

Dew & Eade were both forced to honour their contracts when Melbourne came knocking.

Stk is disrupting our preseason by trying to get a coach in November. Things would have been different if your coaching situation had of been resolved in Sept/Oct. All other teams coaches are now in place by this time of the year so it hampers our ability to get a good replacement if Choco leaves.

It's time to get professional about footy Saints.
Can somebody put the kids to bed please?

TT, the contract means SFA. The courts are not going to force Choco to stay and perform the contract. As for compensation it would be to the tune in recruitment costs for a new coach, if it even went that far.

Grow and and get into the real world. You being aggrieved does not means it cannot happen, you twit.

According to somebody in the club, they're expecting to have the coach picked before the draft (Nov 21), so that'll leave plenty of time before Colorado (Nov 26).

Well by then Richardson will be a really, really experienced assistant won't he? (Next Saints coaching appointment to last a wee bit longer hopefully)

Choco will be our next coach, unless they give it to Tudor or Ratten..

My money is on Choco, best buddy of the Pelican..

Starsky & Hutch
Cagney & Lacey
Freebie & the Bean
Choco & the Pelican , it even sounds good:thumbsu:

( i hope im not the only one who remembers Freebie & the Bean :p )

Remind me never to let you bet for me Captain Blood
I hope you're wrong for all of our sakes!

In the last 24 hrs it's hit me, Choco Williams would be the perfect fit for the Saints for the next 3 yrs..!

Trevor Nisbett as the new CEO, & all the pieces to the puzzle will fit perfectly..!

Dom Cassisi discussing Choco Williams for the job at the Dees a few months back..

"Cassisi said Williams' passion for football clearly still burned bright and that he had all the skills needed as a head coach.

"I got a message from 'Choco' the other day. I respect him as being a previous coach and a good friend," Cassisi said.

"You can't question his passion for the game, everyone knows that and he's a great teacher.

"I'm not in a position to determine who Melbourne should go for, but Choco's definitely got the qualities."
