Hey Fresh here's some names from 2004 onwards can you tell me if it's such a great culture down there why have these players all left and are all still playing elsewhere?

This is just a start, there are plenty more names.
The culture has changed, I still love the club. But wouldn't play there ever again! This isn't a slanging match I'm just interested to see what your response is. My opinion of the club these days is they want to try and quick fix everything, we had a great team to build on above but it just keeps loosing players everyyear and most of them that leave can play a bit! Why didn't Reecy sign back on???

Marcus O'Brien - lost his father in the off-season, didn't want to play at all but a few mates got him to play club 18's.
Shawn Scurrah - was sack/quit as coach, can't have ex coaches on the playing list.
Regan Ryan - retired
Marcus Finlay- retired
Mark Charles- why did you leave?
John Charles -
Jason Vaughn - retired at the end of 2004
Richard Serzyn -
Paul Murphy - still there as far as I know.
Phil Smith - gone this year
Luke Harris - gone this year
Troy Harris - retired this year
Jason Meade - still there as far as I know

I know what you mean kid, I love the place and you know as much as anyone how good it once was.
Reecy didn't sign back on for I think family reasons and Highett was taking too much out of his time for not enough results.

You may have heard that even I'm thinking of moving because of travel & work reasons. I did have a few long chats with Ruffa & Euan about it this week. I don't want to leave the place but some times you do have to move on.

Can someone please private message me Lachy McLeans(Highett F.C player) mobile number im trying to get in touch with him. Cheers:thumbsu:

I left for my own reason plus I wasn't happy with how it was handled with Shawn, Regie still wanted to play I speak to him a bit. He wasn't contacted by the club, Murph is coming to Districts, Meade is going to Old Brighton, Cosa went to play with his brother because most of his mates had left or gone overseas.
I'll be honest I don't know who you are, but let's hope the club can stay a float with the new coach. But there are a lot of players leaving.

Most of the players weren't happy. No one was really to blame other than the 3 women in the end.
I've heard some stories in the last week about how things have gone in the past 3 years and if the playing group knew about some of the happenings there would have been a mass leaving a few years ago.
The way they treated Kat, Shawn, Ruffa. This year Lachy put himself up for best clubman when Euan made over $12,000 profit for the club.

It's changing my view on the place.

Hey Jerk why don't you leave as well, you seem to really dislike the place?
Best rooms in the comp as well as best lights for training.Ground wasn't great last year but, you can't have everything.
The commitee have got some great coaches on board in the last 5-6 years so what more can they do.I bet most other clubs in Div.1. would swap what they have for what Highett has to offer.
The Junior section of the club is where Highett will see benefit in years to come and alot of hard work has been done with reward just around the corner.

Hawks91 Not too sure who you are, but if you know me you know I love the place.
In the last 12 months its changed to the point where it's no long a fun place to be.
I've gone from Fitzroy North to Highett now for 6 years, last 2 years I've done it hard by train to training from the city, and home again. It's hard to do that week in week out. Then it was the off field stuff in the last 2/3 years. The place has fallen away. No footy trip this year, I tried to get a day at Sandown Classic day going, no one wanted a bar of it other than Skipper.
Last year was the first time I missed a training in god knows how long, why? cause I couldn't be ****ed dealing with the shit off-field.
Blokes like Phil Smith while great footballer is a loser off field, remember that night we watched that movie? all he wanted to do was play around like a 4 year old and slam down as many jim beams as he could.
The point I was making about Lachy is the wrong people get rewarded, Euan put a lot into the club this year and in other years. The $12k for the weekly draws, shares in a race horse and other great money making ideas that paid off. Yet Lachy voted for himself Best Clubman, wrong (BTW what has happened with the footy trip money?)

The past players get treated like shit, the coaches are great, but get no support from the players at all. Sure its great having the set up but how many players really care? **** how many players get to training 2 nights a week?

I am leaving, in fact I just got back from the Fitzroy Reds players meeting. The players are taking on themselfs to get fit for pre-season. No coach as yet but we're training from next week, there was 45 blokes there tonight to work out the schedule. Something like that has never been done at Highett because most of the players don't care, we had 5 players (4 ones) who got less than 9 on a beep test for god sake & a number who didn't even take it at all.
It's a great club but things change and Highett has changed very quickly.

i know who you are mate. it seem all this has coincided with the step up from div 2 to div1. do you think all this off field stuff that you talk about was swept under the carpet or forgotten about because you had a successful side on the field in div2?? and once you made the step up to div1 and are now one of the battlers that it all comes to a boiling point??

they are a great club highett, and the comp will be for the worse if they struggle this year. as a chelt player, the two games i look forward to each year is playing highett. great atmosphere, great rivalry. i know most of the highett blokes personally and they are great blokes. maybe the place needs a total clean out/revamp for it to go forward.

The Fresh...you really have lost it. Or should we now call you "Dowden". The reason you keep putting things forward and no takes any notice is cos generally when you are talking to people they are desperately looking for a way to get away from you!

The club won't miss a beat if you leave and don't expect them to try and hang on to you!

Secondly, don't start putting it on Lachy McLean, he alone is the reason the club still functions. As 4QTRTIME says, as soon as Lex and Dave realise they are holding the place back and let guys like Lachy have more influence, the place will move forward.

Big of you to keep slagging Phil Smith, yet when you are in the same room as him you are a little puppy dog...if you feel so strongly about it, let him know!!!

Its comments like this thats making Highett a wrose place. The past players get pushed aside, people like Kat & Ruffa don't feel welcome after all the years of service they gave to the club.
Mate all I ever did was put forward that we have a boys day at Sandown Classic day. Would have been a good day out on the piss & a good chance to meet some new players.
It's not about me anyway, its about Highett.

As for Lachy, yes he does a power of work, but so does a bunch of other people at the place. The point I was making is he voted for himself for Best Clubman (& I think life membership) when others at the club do more than he does. I'm not sure how long you've been there, but in the 6 years I played there the club went from having past players around all the time, to no one feeling welcome at the place. I spoke with Kat who said that she felt like a outsider every time she came down after 6 or so years working for next to nothing.

Highett will never go forward while Lex Marshall is still pulling the strings, The club is far bigger than Lex and his puppets.

When the likes of Lex take a step back and let new blood run the club the culture will change for the better.

Highett footy club, may have got the service of Brad russ, great footballer. can kick a goal or 2. half forward / wingman. will be a great asset to the team.

ROUND 1 2008

SPRINGVALE DISTRICTS vs CLAYTON
Underlights, Newcomen Rd Thursday April 24th (Anzac Day Eve)
*****CONFIRMED*******

Should be a great match to watch. Lets hope that we have a relatively wet summer to ensure the grounds are right to go on the scheduled date. Especially Springy, it looked like a beach during the finals series!!

Springvale is currently being resurfaced with Drought proof grass. Will be brilliant once done!

Would it be the same drought proof grass that is used at Frankston Oval? That grass looks terrible from the fence like its dead and hard but when you step onto the ground and run on the stuff you realise how good it is.

Yep, Brown in Winter, Green in Summer, but a great surface underfoot all year round....

Looks like a happy club at Highett, gee they have smashed each other.
How do we get a reaction out of StKilda City , if anyone had the rights to
boast and return the friendly fire they received pre season it would be them, I think the powers to be down there must be in control because a few clubs I know of would of plundered big footy. Can they back it up and win 2 in a row, I was suprised watching them during the finals on how many locals played in the side. As mentioned they have lost Hassan and Newman.

Will be interesting to see how much ins & outs for them, wouldn't think Dimashki will stay

St Kilda City will lose Newman, Hassan, and about 3 or 4 older players who are retiring. New players coming on board will be announced shortly. Anyone interested in playing should contact reply to this thread.

To true Hawk.

But in Cevik's case he has such a negative influance on players/coaching staff at the club he is at.Spend your money on some other overated player.
It's amazing that Cevik gets so much attention but not surprising the way he plays. He's a great antagonist, not only does he do damage on the field and annoy the hell out of opposition players and supporters alike, he even filters into this forum. A job well done! While you blokes are canning him he's kicking goals and upsetting you even more. A more passionate clubman you won't find, poorly judged by many who have no idea!

big loss for St pauls - full forward best signed at Bonbeach

Rather lose Best than James but still 80+ goals now have to be found else where.
Dogs may not be in the running next year with a group of ageing ex-champions and the loss of Best some sharp recruiting is needed at the kennel.

The dogs will recruit well and will again be in the top few in the comp
