Traded Shane McAdam [Traded to Melbourne for F2]

All of this talk about dees having to 'pay up' for a 29 year old fringe player or no deal is hilarious 😀

Sure Adelaide, send a player to the pre-season draft and shaft him. That will set a great culture for your team and I'm sure other players won't notice at all that when they're out of contract the club will shaft them too. That's not how trading works. Especially for uncontracted players. Melbourne lost Toby Bedford who had more value than McAdam but we just had to suck it up and hand him over to GWS because he was out of contract.

Always a laugh when players spiral to culture and future inability to trade for and retain players. It’s juvenile bullrubbish. It will have precisely zero future impact.

You guys want him, we want him. If he’s going, we need something we can use. I disagree that an earlyish 3rd is worthless as we can add it to whatever else we put up to try and get Suns’ first. But something like a late 3rd is and we might as well get nothing. You might get him for a late third in the main draft, not sure he gets to you in the PSD though.

PSD rarely happens anymore. Essendon also wanted Sam Weideman. Did we demand certain picks etc.? No. we just did the right thing by him and got him to his destination. Same with Toby Bedford who we were desperate to keep.

PSD isn't common, but it does seem to be more common than previously. It isn't just Martin and Hately, other deals like Dawson got done because of the PSD threat.

I wouldn't be shocked if one of the various fringe deals this year involved PSD in some way. I am not suggesting that would necessarily be mcadam though.

No Melbourne supporters posted what pick they wanted from GWS lol. Where's the link to the Bedford trade thread last year.......

On the Zerohanger website, they've suggested the following trades:
1 - James Harmes for McAdam
2- Draft pick obtained from Grundy given to Adelaide.
3- McAdam and Pick 20 for Petty.

I would say all 3 are ridiculous. Especially number 3. Significantly underrating Petty who we wouldn't part with for anything under a top 10 pick.

Petty is worth pick 16-18, there's no way he is a top 10 pick and we've already rule out 1) as we don't want to take on his or Tomlinson's contract which is apparently over $500K so likely was backend?

Watched this bloke at the Gabba this year and he impressed me heaps. Exactly the sort of connecting, leading forward Melbourne need to solve their issues. Underrated.
That said he is an uncontracted, 28yo fringe player. Imo Melbourne's late second gets it done.

We won't trade Petty unless we get a gun key forward or Harley Reid in return (or his foot is stuffed).

We are chips in on going for the flag next year with May and Gawn both turning 32.

It will be a third round pick for McAdam.

I think Melbourne has agreed it will be pick 32 which is why McAdam has agree to request a trade but I think we can get pick 24 ;)
You aren't getting a fun key forward or pick 1 for Petty lol.

I doubt we have even had a discussion with Adelaide. We don't know what picks we will have and our players are just going though exit interviews. In the end, it will be a third rounder.

And we will just keep Petty then!

Maybe. Melbourne wouldn't trade him for pick 16-18 though. Wouldn't even consider it. He's only 23. He's an elite defender at 197cm and could be an elite forward. They dont grow on trees. When May retires, he could be an AA defender pretty easily.

Pick 24. LOL.

Clubs wouldn't have agreed on pick 32. We only just got pick 32 a few days ago. Before then it was 34. Pick 32 is overs for McAdam.

Pick 32 and a F3 coming back to the dees. it'll be something like that.

Petty is worth a top 10 with the premium on key backs at the moment as seen with the touted offers for McKay and Ratagolea. Clubs would rather trade in Petty than say take pick 8 to the draft and bring in O’Sullivan if it was an area they wanted to bolster.

Cerra got traded for pick 5 and is probably on a 700-800k contract. McKay is looking to be around that mark also, so Petty, would demand 700-800k similar to McKay as he is a way better back man.

Steven May also who came in on a 700-800k contract as a back man also was a pick 6 trade. Much older also at the time than Petty is now.

He isn't anywhere near the level of May and McKay shouldn't even get a band 1 compensation but if Essendon had a choice between McKay or Petty they would pick McKay.

He isn’t now but he is contracted, much younger and would demand similar salary to what May got / McKay will be getting.

Similar salary = similar trade compensation.

It just doesn't work like that, the player decides where he wants to play and then a trade is worked out afterwards, not the other way around

Goes hand-in-hand, I am sure discussions are had in parallel. Nobody would know exact sequence of events however to claim it one way or another except blokes on big footy.

More likely pick 24 for McAdam and F3 but I wouldn't surprise if we can convince Petty to return home with a bigger contract then it would be pick 23 and McAdam for Petty which is slightly overs for us.

Anything to do with Petty who is contracted would need to include pick 9.

Backmen are an absolute premium right now.

So you are telling me if a club doesn't have the capital they will convince a player to request a trade to them? They've agreeD somewhat to what Melbourne are willing to trade.

Not the pick but Dees convincing him they could get it done part, and that he would have an actual role in the team.

But that was exactly the comment I was replying to, that McAdam agreed to the trade only because a pick was agreed upon.

It's a complete load of tripe, it just doesn't work like that
