Great that it’s against Port. He and is family have a strong legacy there too. Flat it’s at Marvel. Has to be a fair chance it’s his last game
Would love to see him sneak another four games and go past the wizened garden gnome KB, but instead I think you might be right, he'll probably finish alongside D. Fletcher* on the even 400.

Hope it doesn’t happen, but who’s to say Burgoyne doesn’t need to come on early and play most the game anyway?

Is this his second game as sub? Maybe we play him to 402 and then people can’t kick and screen that he “didn’t really play 400”
In the old days before the concept of rotating subs, the 19th and 20th man were effectively medical subs. If either gets a run, the guy they replaced could not go back on the field. Selection in the '20' meant a game played, whether you took the field or not. Similarly, only recently we had the green vest and the red vest. Same thing.

Should we go back and query the games count for all players who played before the rotating substitution system to make sure they actually took the field? Does Tucky still get to 400? Or Bartlett? And by that logic, you would query all those who just snuck into the Father-son 100-game quota.

All too hard. If you get changed and walk out onto the field, the game counts.

There's a thread on the main board about Harvey's claims which I just read.

Salty poster from Geelong providing his opinion on Silk counteracted in part by two knowledgeable Hawthorn posters. Thumbs up to them.

The first thing I thought of when reading the thread was Silk's goal in that preliminary final. This photo I think will be my best memory of Silk playing (well my memory of his celebration of one of his best and memorable goals).

Could also be the reason for the salty Geelong poster's current opinion on Silk ......

What other memories do we hold of his great career?

Many a ball cleared from the centre square when needed......

I would be happy for Burgers to play his 400th and then put him out to pasture.
Our backline is settled, we dont need him there now.
I think we need younger guys doing the rotations through the middle and playing forward just limits a young guy from growth opportunities.

That early season argument about on-field leadership is less relevant now.

If he wants to go on, I’d like to see him in the squad again next year. At worst he’s not a bad 22nd player and you’d imagine a fairly strong coach.

Has he said he wants this year to be his last?

Yes, this year is definitely his last as a player.
I think the agreement for next year is as an advisor to the club's indigenous program.
So he will still be around.

Dodo stonewalling another trade?? Really???
And the push back from the leader in the club to trade Williams. Whose knee turned out to be much worse than Burgers.

Got it all sorted last minute. 3 peat thanks to that trade.

After the Port game, Silk should be sub for rest of the year. Saves us screwing up developing players by having them miss VFL games to sit on the bench for 4 quarters. Played well as the sub too.
This doesn't have enough likes. We can also start his coaching career early giving advice from the bench.

I think this season he has had a substantial drop off from last season, should be calling it a day at seasons end for mine.

Anyways what a champion, really hope I get to attend the great mans 400th Saturday night and we avoid some snap lockdown happening before then.

But how good was his last quarter against GWS!

Expecting a big game from him this week
