Ultimate Glory Shaun Burgoyne plays game 400! #silk400 - hanging up the boots!

He just sums up everything that made the club so great from 2011-16. Tough as nails, skillful as anyone, a great athlete, and above all, did what was right for the team instead of what wins individual awards. And a cracking guy carrying the torch for our First Nations talent.

I'll be pretty emotional during the game once it hits that it really is all over for Silk and Clarko. Most club supporters never get to celebrate a period of success and talent as great as what those guys have helped build over their Hawthorn careers.

Clear out the 50. Get him a bag. Block for him at every stoppage. He's had 250 games to play his role, the role can bugger off on Saturday. Time for the celebration.

I would love to see Shaun honored by having an award named after him at PCM - best clubman? most consistent?

If these awards already have names attached to them, perhaps the B&F of the AFLW team?

Or perhaps Burgoyne Foundation or Burgoyne scholarship to really facilitate Shaun’s off field work from next year?

Really without him there's no threepeat - we don't get past the 2013 prelim. He dragged the team over the line in that game

Ultimate big game big moment player - would love for him to stay on at the club in some capacity. He'd make a great assistant coach but I suspect there are bigger things on bigger stages for Shaun. Honour and privilege to have had him at the Hawks - go well Silk

There are people in pretty much every field who just seem to operate on a higher plane than those around them. Virtuosos. Shaun at his peak was one of those players for me. When a clutch hard ball just had to be won, a big tackle laid, or a team lifting goal had to be kicked, there was no-one else who filled me with the same sort of calm, of utter faith that he would just get the job done. Whenever I saw the ball with Silk, all was right with the world. Close to my favourite player of the last decade, along with Hodgey. Congratulations on such a stellar career Silk, you deserve every accolade.

I likened him to a surgeon of the footy.

where there may be a contest between ordinary players, it can be a fair scrap till another player arrives. if it’s silk he somehow give the opponent a flick with the hip which you sometime miss it’s so quick, and he’s off with the ball while the opponent just looks silly wondering what happened. He was just so damn clean and efficient.
In on other life he could have been a fine soccer player (wash my mouth out)

An iconic representative for his Indigenous family and great ambassador for our mighty club.

There have been many greats at Hawthorn and Lethal was my idol growing up but overall his Holistic and Empowerment embroidered Gold label starus as a person and he is first class Silk of a player in the history of the Hawthorn Football Club and no one has ever seen before in our history .

All the best Champ👍🙏🏻💪

Just reminiscing about Silk today...you know in his last game of 407 he was very nearly the difference twice!
That shot on the run from 50 would have iced the game, and then 1 step to right at that final play and he would've reached that ball.
Fantastic. Despite the disappointment for us on not getting the win, what a fantastic way to bow out; crucial to the very end!!

Port board absolutely frothing over this news.

Typically you might think it'd be surprising given how much vitriol has been directed towards him from their camp over the last couple months, but just need to remember that they are one of the most fickle supporter bases in the league.

Some are even wondering if he might be able to lure Wingard back :tearsofjoy:
