The AFL website suggests differently

The AFL Rising Star Award was instituted in 1993 to recognise and encourage talented young players in the AFL. After each round of home and away games, a player is nominated and at the end of the season a panel of experts selects the winner. The winner must be under the age of 21 at January 1 of that year, must not have played more than 10 games to the start of that season and must not have been suspended by the AFL or State League tribunals during the season (as with the Brownlow Medal, players found guilty of certain offences and fined or reprimanded by the Tribunal remain eligible to win the award).

Higgins gets the nod from this totally unbiased viewpoint! His long goal in the first 1/4, his ability to crumb a goal and his absence of fumbling when under pressure should get the attention of the RS comm this week.

Even though i am a roos supporter i would much rather Higgins win it than Thomas. Higgins is probably my fav player in AFL and has been all year. Looks great for the future. Ive said he will win a brownlow one day, big statement though.

If previous form is taken into account (which it usually is) it will be no contest.

Previous form was against the pies. And he beat Clement convincablly Actually was injured for quite a while before playing against the blues.

Watched the second half of the game and he ripped the Pies backline to pieces. Has the nack of turning his opponent inside out and has great pace.
One of the best finishers I have ever seen. Gunna be a star, already is.

Like many have said before, Higgins reminds me of a young Cousins and if you are a Bulldogs fan you should be very excited.

He certainly knows how to score goals. Similar to Cuz.

Thommo2 did some wonderful things to put us back into the game. So did Higgins. Will be very close but Thomas is the man.

Don't really see why. Only had one touch more, a goal less and was against a lesser side.

Higgins kicked four, at cruicial sides against Collingwood, who should play finals this year.

Higgins or Griffin for me, probably Higgins.

I think he'll get it this week. He's been pretty consitant all year, a 4 goal display for a winning side in the game of the round should be enough to get him the nomination IMO.
