Rumour Busted Shiel a done deal.

Have just spoken to my "AFL insider", and confirmed SOS' offer of pick 1 still stands and Carlton are still in the race.

Wouldn't surprise me if SOS upped the offer to 2 million per season, still a couple of days of trade period to go.

may have also been the unlimited supply of gym juice available at the bombers.
Ripper, you get called out by a Dees supporter and your first move is to troll Essendon for the drug scandal :thumbsu:

Keep swinging son, keep swinging!

I actually wouldn't rubbish tge OP in thus case. I believed Shiel would choose the Blues and there were indications from our board he would. No skin iff my nose, it was up to him.

An AFL insider has just told me that SOS and Shiel have a gentleman's agreement, SOS has told Shiel he will do "whatever it takes" to win his services, if that means pick 1 so be it, ( which will go to the crows ) but SOS wants 'something else in return'. Shiel is just pretending to shop around to buy some time for the deal to be finalised.
Shiel has NO intention of playing for any other Victorian club than Carlton.
Hmmm, we’re waiting for your update!
Shiel looks great and very happy in a Essendon jumper. You must be heartbroken.

Have it on good authority you are a knob.

What jumper is he currently wearing?
His first preference didnt want to pay what GWS wanted.

Remember when Shiel said that he would move to the club that can work out a fair deal? His first preference club said no

I followed it closely and I'm pretty sure he never said anything like that. He was given the green light to look around and choose a club. It wasn't and shouldn't be his problem whether a trade could be sorted.

In fact the indications are he wasn't that keen to move this year initially but didn't intend to stay long term.

The only team that I could forsee an issue with the trade deal was possibly the Hawks. If he wanted that and we couldn't sort a deal he could have gone as a RFA next year. We wouldn't be in a position to match oferrs, and I dont beleive the relationship had broken down.

Essendon may end up being a better deal for Shiel with success in the long run. They look on the way up and can see them passing Hawthorn pretty quickly.
Not really.

Could Shiel end up making a move to Hawthorn? So he can get back to his preferred club.

Used essendon as a club to get to Vic?

He said himself he'll be a Bomber for the rest lf his career now. He diesn't have to say things like that.

You really are talking nonsense. Whatever anyone wanted to happen, he chose the Bombers.

You invent a fantasy and then extrapolate detailed conclusions.

How many players have said that?

I understand you may be upset that GWS have trouble with player retention but this is no fantasy

Why do you think Choco was on radio saying a decision will be made within 24hrs? Hawthorn pulled out of the race

If anything our problem with player retention is that we've been too good at it.itwas expected we'd lose a lot and a reducing list size made it somewhat inevitable.

It's actually rare these days for a player to verbally commit for life. They know circumstances change and statements like that can bite you. I've followed Dylan for a long time and he's pretty careful and deliberate about what he says publicly.

If he'd wanted to go to the Hawks he'd have got there one way or the other, but he didn't.

I've no skin in the game. I wanted him to stay for his career but that wasn't to be. Part of our list management has always been to be realistic , and I'm sure the frank discussions mention included what we expected to be able to offer in the future. I also accept his wish to play in front if large crowds was genuine.

What is, is. Reality is always preferable.

oh man I would love to hear what scenarios you envisage that would make this a reality. Please please please can you run a few past me? Or, at the very least, even one?

I mean, he's signed a 6 year deal, and is currently 25 years old. So he'll be 31 when that finishes up. Even if, at that point, he decides to move to his star cross'd lover, then under the FA rules he's still not a free agent and therefore has to get there either via the usual means - a trade - or via the draft.

If it's via a trade, then presumably Essendon will ask whatever his value is, and either Hawthorn pay it or they don't. If not, he goes through the draft and maybe Hawks are on the bottom and can get him. Of course, this is assuming of course he still has significant value at age 31.

Any time during the next 6 years, if he wants to move on from Essendon, presumably Essendon have the whip hand; unless Hawthorn finish on the bottom - maybe that would be the strategic plan I'm missing? Shiel gets to get to his beloved Hawks and spends the rest of his career not playing finals?

Still, it's a pretty darn strange move signing a 6 year deal when in reality you are using it only as a stepping stone to get to Hawthorn. Never mind, presumably you haven't just made the dumbest post ever and can set me straight on what I'm missing, right?

You seem triggered. RUOK?

I'm just saying, his heart was set on Hawthorn as his first preference. Maybe he will still play at his peak for you guys.

Seems like you guys were happy to pay overs for him, Hawthorn didn't want to (hence them pulling out).

I actually feel sorry for Sheil, didn't get what he wanted and had to take the sloppy seconds

aww so no actual scenarios you can bring me. That's a shame I was so looking forward to it.

Paying overs as in trade or as in coin?

As both are less than what Hawks did for Chad
