Watching Kris Massie run around for the Crows on the weekend, I remembered how he was the 'next big thing' at Carlton all those years ago.

It got me wondering, which players at your club did you think were going to be guaranteed superstars when they first started? There was a young guy at the Blues in the 90's(?) called Andrew Phillips, who I told everyone was going to be a gun. Another was Stephen Edgar.

Guess that's why I'm not a talent scout..

Andy Phillips (number 19) was a great little player! From memory, he had pretty serious back problems thus his career ended very prematurely. If I remember correctly, he may ahve also represented the big V once.

Another one that you forget to mention: Simon Verbeek :D

I must admit that I thought Trent Sporn and Justin Davies would be good players for the Blues.

Houlihan hasn't fullfilled his early promise.

Jarred Brennan had a very good debut match for the Lions against Collingwood but hasn't done much since.

Brendan Goddard looked like a future star in 2003 but has gone backwards since.

Brad Ottens and Josh Fraser haven't turned out to be the players I thought they would be after 1-2 years into their careers.

Chris Dalkin and Cameron Doyle from the 80’s Collingwood reserves. Since then Gordon Sumner, Terry Keays, Andrew Tranquilli, Mark McGough.

Agree with that, had so much potential and a booming kick.
Damien Adkins showed a bit at collingwood but was struck down with oesteitis pubis. Kicked 5 against the eagles in one of his few games for the pies and had heaps of toe.
I think the eagles picked him on that performance alone. He's been in and out since and just broke his leg in the wafl. Curtains maybe?
Travis Gaspar has just had no luck with injury, was touted as being better than Darren.
And well, i'd have to add Michael Gardiner at the moment. Who would have thought 4 years ago he would be the 3 rd choice after Cox and Seaby.
Phil Read had an awesome 1st season before knee injuries.
The list is endless really.....:(

Stephen Oliver Carlton circa '93

Was the small fish in a big pond at Carlton. Wanted to be the big fish in a small pond and moved back to Castlemaine in the BFL.

I'm glad someone mentioned Adrian McAdam already.

Murray Vance - I remember reading an article in the Herald Sun the day after the draft and the blues said "we got the one we wanted (meaning Vance)." Could probably add Luke Livingstone to the list..
I thought Damien Lock might have played more senior games - played with both him and Nathan Brown in the Pioneeers and didn't think brown would end up much better than him...

Trent Hotton, Aaron James,

Wasn't Collingwood talking up some bloke King a year or so ago.
Don't know if he is even listed anymore.

David King, was looking good, and then well disappeared and was then delisted from the club, if I remember correctly.
