Should I have the right to a club membership refund?

Be curious to hear how the MCC have responded to this in terms of membership fees? Maintaining $715 for the year without a single footy match to attend, including probably a GF, will take some justifying. I'm not overly optimistic though.

Not any sympathy for footy fans joining a cricket club to see the GF.

Oh yeah they've also hinted at scrapping the membership pack items. I'm ok with that, there's only so many scarves and caps one needs.
Eagles pack was already sent out so fair enough to still pay for it. Imagine most clubs would have either sent them out or ordered and paid for the items.

In future years I would probably elect to not pay for it, but i wouldn't imagine the cost of the pack is that high, it's mostly cheap crap.

No idea. I'm just hoping next year's membership isn't more expensive.

Plus who knows what next season will even look like. Play everyone once? Or will we revert back to the previously planned fixturing including 5 x double ups.

If there's gonna be less games, I'm just hoping we're not slogged even more.

Why the a-hole replies? I asked a simple question, hoping to get an answer from a BigFooty punter who might be in the know.

Because some Eagles supporters see the club of support as "Richmond" next to a poster & go into full angry rant, #VICBIAS melt mode. It appears that some of them are unable to have an actual discussion at the moment.

Keen to know this as well. My RFC membership is a donation to the club, I’m not fussed by that money, but I don’t care about the MCC they’ve gouged me the last 3 years, so I want my money back.

Clubs will value these like they do the showbags at the Royal Show

Hat - $35
Scarf - $50
Over $100 of value.

Ive elected to drop it as well going forward in our member survey. Unnecessary trash.

It would seem to me that a better solution would be a $50- $100 team store gift card.

Gift cards are great from a business operations point of view because they aren't all used and they are buying things you've marked up already so your members could get $100 of value from something that costs you $40 to supply and only 75% of them are even used and 80% of those that are used end up spending more money at the team store anyway in which you make full marked up price.

Seriously, someone hire me.

Depends how the boxing day test fares.

Plus what are you going to do? You're not cancelling your mcc membership after 1 year of little use. MCC have all the power.

If you would like a refund due to the season being crowd free, I think you are within your rights to get your money back. If you choose to get your money back, then you are no longer a member and will need to join the waitlist next year.

I don't completely agree with this. I think the refund should be split between Membership, and ticket price.

I'm happy for the crows to keep the membership portion of the money, and as such I should retain my membership.

I'm not happy for them to keep the cost of the 11 game ticket portion, as they haven't provided that service.

I have put the same argument to the club in the last 5 member surveys. They seem to not get it, or there is some AFL obligation to supply the member packs with the memberships. Even a $20 merch voucher / or exchange it for a member pack at the first game. That gives people both options. Like you say, its easy to spend this on stuff you actually would use at the club shop, or not use the voucher at all.

North gave members a choice this year of either a voucher or item of choice. Agree that it's a good idea as I was going to take the voucher - I have a scarf and don't wear the caps.

Wondering if other clubs have presented any options for club members this season? What is your club offering?

Eagles have announced 4 options.
• Donate some or all of it to the club.
• Roll it over to next year, minus $50 admin & members pack fee (hat, sticker, pin, etc).
• Get a refund right now, minus the $50 admin & members pack fee. Lose rights to a seat this year if any games get crowds. Can get a seat back next year but no guarantee it will be the same seat you currently have.
• Cancel. Money back minus $35 fee. No longer a member.

Pretty fair if you ask me. Would imagine other clubs are offering similar?

Don't know why anyone would cancel, only get $15 more back than the refund option. At least with refund you can decide at next year's renewal if you want to continue or not.

They do seem like very reasonable options to me. I'm surprised that the clubs have not come out with a unified front on this though - they certainly indicated early on that they would.
I haven't seen anything from my club yet, but haven't been paying that much attention.

Have the AFL said anything about their memberships?

Seems absolutely ridiculous they’ve still got AFL members money. Quit pretending there’s going to be crowds this season.

I believe e-mails are going out today for AFL memberships--- a mate of mine has received one, but I haven't yet. Apparently there's three options
  • Maintain Membership
  • Move to Absentee Membership
  • Cancel Membership

I think membership packages are so different across the clubs it is hard to have one set of rules. In particular clubs where the large majority of memberships are sold with a set seat.

It would be very hard for any organisation to reduce what it's offering by nearly 25% but charge people more. There's no justification for that and I would expect big drop offs in membership numbers if that was the case.

Similar to what some airlines have done, I think giving members options is the best happy medium, based on what has been paid and what will be provided.

Got the AFL Membership Email.

30% discount on 2021 membership and bonus food vouchers/reserved seat packages etc if you maintain your membership for this year.

what are others planning to do?
As a silver concession member, maintaining membership is a no brainer.

If I was an adult or Gold member then the absentee looks like the obvious option. $170 for 4 guest passes and keeping your place in line is still good value.
