Hartlett might be a dark horse. Geez he was playing some good footy before he did his knee. Had form issues in 2016 and early part of 2017 but the guy has the skills and built his body to be rock hard after having issues the first 5 years of his career.

Good point. I like what Hartlett says in the media about us. Never floats around the point. We've missed him terribly. I like the fact he's improved after he signed his contract which is ****ing rare of anyone on our list.

Almost forgot Hammer was on the list. We did try and get rid of him a couple years back. Ship him off to Richmond. Sliding doors lol. Still backing Ollie but Hammer has the credentials.

I can heartily recommend Kane Cornes' article in this morning's Monopoly Times as he has highlighted Port's lack of leadership in the dying minutes of Saturday's game. He uses the example of Motlop's taking on the field and Clurey's kick to the opposition as examples of where a steadying hand was needed but was missing, what really hurts is that he is exactly right.

Who should be captain? I have no idea as I do not know the personalities of the players but I know Boak's time has passed as a Captain and possibly a player.

Another dumb decision that thank God didn't eventuate..instead we keep guys like Pittard and sign them on long deals.

That is the problem. You want a media man when what we really need is a man of action and words out on the field. The Captain isn't simply a media man he has a role to play on field and he has to have the personality to keep players minds on task and support young players etc. I never regarded Matt Primus a great media man either as a Captain or as a Coach but his on field leadership through example and constantly encouraging the players was exemplary.

If you want a media man make David Koch captain.

I dont want a media man I just like what he says when he has the opportunity in the media, he tends to actually show hurt when we lose and gets to the point. His onfield leadership down back has been his huge improvement to his game.

Fair enough, I accept that it is good to have someone who can communicate with the public. I have to admit that I have lost track of Hamish a bit as he hasn't played for a while.

Wines just isn’t ready to take the helm.

What about Wines and Jonas as co-captains? Or even 1 of the 2 with Boak or Hartlett.

Wouldn’t look at any others.

Gray is a great player, but he’s not a leader (and that’s fine - buddy is great but he isn’t leadership material).

Dixon is a good player but he can barely put a sentence together so I’m not sure how he’ll go managing a team.

Rockcliff is cooked, shouldn’t be looked at.

I reckon Boak has another year. But he has to be played around the ball. I think a lot of his apparent lack of leadership is from being coached to stay in positions away from the stoppage. If he gets used, its great but it is hard for him to impose himself on the game otherwise.

He is just wasted as a high half-forward.

A bit off topic but so are a couple of comments here.

We didn't try to get rid of Hartlett but we asked him to look around because we thought he wasn't reaching his potential at Port. It was the wake up call he needed to continue to develop his game at Alberton and not stagnate.

I'm not sure Clurey's kick is a reflection of leadership. He could have chipped it to everyone's frustration and then he would be blamed for that. He actually followed team rules by going long to the pocket, probably hoping for it to be forced out of bounds. He did wind up kicking to a 2 on 1 but that 1 was Robbie Gray. That kick swings another metre to the left and he looks like a genius.

Port will not have two Co-captains. Port Captain has No1 on his back.

Even Chad Wingard doesn't think that Chad Wingard should be captain.

I would like Chad to be captain but only if we invoke the Arsenal tradition of the captain choosing the style of guernsey everyone else plays in so that we can run out with 22 players wearing those sexy long sleeves every week

Except when he doesn't and some kid does instead. Whilst I appreciate the sentiment, I still shake my head at that.

I would give it to Robbie just on principal, don't care about his age.

But between Jonas and Ollie, Jonas for sure.

Chad will put himself in the hole.
Chad performs when the pressure is on IMO
Chad has the hall marks of a tough leader.
Chad needs to be leader now to get the best out of himself, which in turn will inspire the team.

For me it's Chad with Jonas VC. I'd tell Ollie be in the leadership group. Rediscover his own form without pressure of leading and come back to VC or Captain in a year or two.

Wanga's didn't want to be captain, he did it for 1-2 years and did a great job.

I thought I was the only one who felt that way. Fifty years of tradition down the tube in an instant.

Clubs who have no leadership generally chose the multiple man version of leadership would not be surprised if we go down that path and end up with a half a dozen people who are going no where in order to share the blame1
