I'm sure we'll find out next week.

I'll be pissed off we didn't.
Ditto for me.
To crap on about interstate team being disadvantage with travel and requesting equalization via fixtures and then to not take opportunity of PP makes no sense.

BTW, Floated a model for travel equalization as plenty of evidence that travel impacts longevity in game in some forums.

Using the current list numbers and salary cap as a baseline, the number of list spots and subsequent salary cap space is adjusted based on travel.

Example of how would work, for every 10,000 klms over the average (~25,000 in 2023) you get an extra list spot and salary cap. Based on 2023 it would look like the following,
  • 3 for WCE (57000)
  • 2 for Freo (51000) & GC (54000)
  • 1 for PA (35000 & Bris (32000)
  • anyone under 15000 should lose one but will let that one go.

On Average each year the WA teams would always get a minimum of 2, QLD / SA teams will get 1 except if they fall below average for the previous year. Recall draw is announced in November around same time as draft so align, could have worked out extra list spots before draft.
Might make Vic clubs put their hand up for additional travel interstate if they get an extra list spot!!

If not it will be difficult for the AFL to give Richmond any assistance over the next 2 years.

I've said it already and whilst i'm a long way from the club atm afaik nothing has changed.

1. Head coach had to change
2. Club needed to win less than 5 games

Club won 5 games, unless there's some ****ing miracle it's not happening this year.

****s me off that the AFL decided there was some sort of magic criteria all of of a sudden to get assistance. Like they gave the same ultimatum to Norf for the endless assistance they have gotten.

Let's compare our trajectory to North...

NM
2019 - 10 wins, 99.5%
2020 - 3 wins, 71.2% (Bottomed out)
2021 - 4 wins 1 draw, 70.3%
2022 - 2 wins, 55.8% (Sacked coach, PP: 2nd round pick 2023, 3rd round pick 2023, extra list spots)
2023 - 3 wins, 71.5% (PP: 1st round picks 2023, 2x 1st round picks 2024, extended rookie list)
2024 - 3 wins, 63.5%

WCE
2021 - 10 wins, 93.2%
2022 - 2 wins, 59.8% (Bottomed out)
2023 - 3 wins, 53%
2024 - 5 wins, 68.1% (Sacked coach)

Eerily similar numbers - we are 2 years behind NM, have won 0.5 games more at ~5% less.

AFL's position of less than 5 wins this season is horseshit IMO. We're essentially in the same position as NM were when they got their first PP package.

Yes we snagged a flag in 2018, but NM were playing prelims in 2014 & 2015. They weren't an unsuccessful side.

So there is only a win criteria when it applies to us. GAGF VFL

Not really. North had 3 season of under 5 wins when they got their PPs (now 5 seasons). We had 2.

We have at least showed some improvement this year whereas North have been stuck at the same point for 5 seasons now.

The old PP system was based on 5 wins. They would still use it as an indicator just not advertise it.

We won too many games this year. We won't be getting anything. If it was another 2 or 3 win season we would have been given something.
Brisbane got a priority pick in 2016 .
The 3 seasons prior were 15th (7wins) 17th (4wins) 17th(3wins)

We have 10 wins in the last 3 seasons including a spoon

2020 was a 17 game season, I know nth were bad, but 3/17 would usually equate to either 4 or 5 wins in a 22/23 round season (I get it doesn’t quite work that way, but it is the best estimate we have).

Also conversely 2 of our poor seasons have been in years of historically high games played (23/24 both have 23 games compared to 22 in prior years).

So us winning a game, or half a game, more than north is actually statistically very close to on par.
