Well he's sticking with the same side. So at least he's not being hypocritical with last week's decisions. I'll give him that.

Hopefully Chad can continue his forward line form he's shown in the SANFL Trials.

I don't see how it's the same old predictable shit... Chad kicked 9 goals in 5 quarters in 2 SANFL trials to Salter's 6. On form, you'd go Chad, plus he left the 3 debutants in from last week.

Hitchcock the sub?

Worst possible choice for sub... ever !!

sub should be KPP or someone versatile enough to play multiple roles ... not a one dimensional forward pocket. How many weeks will it take for Primus to work this out?

For how long in a match do you reckon Chad could provide hard leads like Schulz does?

I am hoping that this is just foxing, with Salter coming in as emergency.

Why should the sub be a KPP or versatile player.

As long as you have enough versatile players in your 22, does it matter if they are subs or in the 21.

People say Chad is the perfect sub ... but why .... if he's good enough to play 'most' positions, why not have him in the 21 so he can play 'most positions. Then if a player goes down up forward, he swings to playing a forward role and a running player comes into the side to assist with running rotations.

make Rodan the sub.. and i'm okay with it. baby steps. at least a lot of kids are in.

I think this is a good call. I suspect teams have two basic choices for the sub: either a bloke who might be able to do some damage once the pace has gone out of the game in the second half (someone like Rodan) or an emergency type player who can cover any position on the ground if someone goes down (someone like Cornes).

Hitchcock seems just to be the 22nd player picked.

So anyone have any word on Hartlett? Is he out becuase the knock he got last week for West? Were they concerened he didn't get enough 'match time' before coming off injured? If that's the case I think he'd still be a better sub than Hitchcock. Something seems to be going on that we don't know about.

Chad has done everything asked of him this preseason and has showed good form. He is a proud man and could have easily said shove it up your backside and played all year for the bays. He deserves his shot and I hope he proves a few people wrong.

Cassisi during the week said that the club wanted a full run in the SANFL and he only got a quarter due to his knock
He'll probably have another run for westies then come back

I'm very pleased to see last weeks debutants all retain their spots in the side. Also, why the panic if Primus has committed to playing a fit side given some of our regulars are running fitness back through the twos?

This was always going to happen and I have no issue with that selected side.

I didn't think that there would be many changes. The thing that other teams respected Malthouse for is that when he blooded new kids he makes sure that they got consecutive games together and when they needed a break another kid will get a few games in a row.

No reason expose a kid if they are not going to get at least 3 games in a row. Nick Lower, wether we liked him or not was often in and out. Another reason for keeping the same team is that the game itself is part of the conditioning. If we can get a core group who have their match specific fitness sorted out, it is easier to bring in debutants.

Looking forward to the game. It has been a long time. :thumbsu:

OK, so who is going to provide the leads that Schulz normally would? Chad physically cannot do that for a whole AFL game.

I don't see any issue with the selected side. Disappointed that Hartlett isn't in, but that is because he doesn't have match fitness yet.

Chad Cornes was the obvious inclusion given his SANFL, and preseason form. When Salter had kicked 4 goals, sure. The facts have been made clear though that he kicked 2 and wasn't amazing.

Rodan, or Hitchcock could have been dropped for someone like Banner, but would that really have been necessary after one bad game?

@Porthos, do you think Salter could? I think Chad will stand more of a chance.

Why should the sub be a KPP or versatile player.

As long as you have enough versatile players in your 22, does it matter if they are subs or in the 21.

If one of your 21 goes down and you need to swing someone already on-field around to play in that position - that's 2 match-ups that have just been adjusted/impacted.

Then you bring in your one-dimensional sub ... someone who can only play in one single position... that will probably result in another shuffle somwhere.

That's a big hit to pay for one player going down and could swing a close match.

I'll stick to my theory that the sub should be KPP or versatile to minimise the impact on the match-ups.

Agreed, no point having a very raw player having to overthink their actions during the game wondering whether they will be in next week, have they done enough etc. The confidence that they will get another go if they put in effort must be comforting.

Very happy to see C Cornes back, given he appears to have had a solid pre season base of training (no niggling calf injuries every 3rd week) nothing would make me happier that watching him with a 15 possession 8 mark 3 goal game.

Once a champion, always a threat.

Yes.

I think Chad will stand more of a chance.
Based on watching Chad play for many years, we know that even at his peak, he would struggle to pull off the gutbusting runs that we've been using Schulz for for a full match. Maybe up to six times a quarter, sure.
