With sports team or even political parties, I can kind of understand blinding one-eyed, hypocritical defence of whichever group you support. But a newspaper? I couldn't care less who it is. If it's shit, it's shit.

I can never understand the demonising of a source of information...I always figure the best solution is to read widely, get lots of different views and make up your own mind. With that in mind, having sources that vary becomes a good thing.

Agreed. The problem is when a snake like Murdoch starts trying to monopolise media markets.

I don't understand why its locked. The poster had a valid point and my deleted post reinforced that.
The campaign was doing no harm, and it may have actually done a bit of good and helped a few people. I don't understand why some are so up in arms over this.

I read the deleted post - I'm no clearer as to what it actually meant?

Equally don't understand why it was deleted?

Does the judge who let him out on bail have blood on his or her hands. I bet they wish they could make their decision again, but knowing the crap judges we have they probably wouldnt have changed a thing.

Our judges are not crap. We have one of the best, most transparent and effective legal systems in history.

Occasionally they get it wrong and it makes front page news when they do. But in 99.999999 percent of cases it's spot on.

If you disagree, please point me to a legal system and judiciary anywhere in the world thats better.

Just on the locked thread, three mods posted in it post locking.
Sometimes you read a thread and respond before you realise it is locked.

If we have a policy of letting in illegal immigrants then it is inevitable that numerous unsavoury characters will get in.

It would be nice if refugee advocates were able to admit that their views substantially increase the chances of terrorists operating in Australia.

Firstly, this bloke wasn't an illegal immigrant so I fail to see the relevance.

Secondly, terrorists don't come in via boat. Look at the 9/11 terrorists, brevik, the woolwich blokes, and others (in the US and UK). They are almost invariably either lawful citizens of the country or have travelled to the county lawfully to commit the act of terror.

Of all the terrorist attacks and mass murders perpetuated in the US, UK and Australia In the past 40 years, how many have been perpetuated by illegal immigrants? Can you find even one?

Now go back and have a look at how many have been carried out by citizens, and lawful visitors to the country.

Terrorists are much more sophisticated than you suspect Meds.

Which part of not demonising the source didn't you get?

Viewpoints you don't agree with are more valuable than those you do, because they make you think more.

I say let the media in to record what they want, that's their job. Keep the cops honest. But as in the article, keep reports concise and regular, not non-stop.

One thing that struck me was the journos on Twitter congratulating each other on their coverage.

Not just Murdoch?

Not all sources are created equal.

News limited is not a reputable source for factual news. It makes its money off monopolising markets, and blending some fact with opinion and tabloid rubbish.

30 odd percent circulation is not a monopoly. 70 odd percent readership displays a successful business model.
