Very quite on the rumor mill the last few weeks gentlemen! Is the exodus continuing at Diggerland Scotty D? Surely you've got some goss for us Fancy!

Hard to give you any info while you are referring to me as a man. I might not be pretty but last time I checked I was still all woman.
I heard Jo Milgate and John Kosch might be headed back to Burras but was told but a very drunk person at the Murtoa races so who would know. Also got told that Dimboola are very worried about filling there 2nds side. It may be that a few guys are retiring etc.

Sorry Fancy, my mistake. Dont' get your little lace panties in a knot.

Heard on the grapevine the rats have signed Aaron Searle former player and brother to Jarrod Searle very handy recruit and will enjoy playing with his brother

Yes, very handy bomber. Do you think the Rodents can make the finals?
Yeah look im not sure at this stage hopefully most of the younger guys will stay i know couple have gone. Really depends on the other teams, look they will be there abouts i still think they need another strong bodied type experienced onballer and large key position player then they would have a very handy side.

I did'nt see a lot of them last year but seemed to have a lot of good runners but lacked key position players.
yeah but some rumbling in regards to them not aggressively recruit key position players however i do understand that they are hard to find however if one is new to the area i would of thought a phone call wouldnt hurt.

What has Scott Turner been like as a recruiter? When he first camw back the expectation was from outside the club that the Rats would pick up a lot of guys without even trying. Do you think he has bought many to the club?
From what i c he has been great for the club great with the new kids coming thru, they really look up to him and his wealth of knowledge about the game has certainly been passed on to the kids. I dunno about the older more experienced players i dont know (i maybe wrong) but he hasnt gone out to recruit them. There has been an expectation at the club well before scott was there that people will just play there because its the best standard of football in the area without them having to chase players. The club will do alright but i believe (and its only my opinion) that if they tried to recruit harder they would be a far better club rather than relying on expectations of players just turning up. At the very least i would be calling all the players on the list from the previous year i dont know if that has happend.

It happened...
Fish has been great with a young playing group and got the best out of his side to make finals when no-one expected them to. Perhaps could have recruited a little more aggressively, although im unsure if this took place and the Rats just couldnt snare anyone...

Totally agree with ya there bumbles i dunno where the rats would of been if fish didnt come to the club, the kids did great last year. Just heard on the grapevine that there was a new guy in town who i think teaches at marion colledge who held down a key position at sebas in the ballarat league and fish was given his number to call and they didnt talk to him hence why he has now gone out to moyston. As i said its only what i hear i know the truth gets thrown around a bit up there in rat land :)

It always looks like your doing stuff all when you can’t get anyone to play with you. I wondered where the Rats get most of their cash from? How do they make their money? I thought they did well last year with the list they had but they seemed to do better on the big grounds. Some of the Horsham players told me they felt that the Rats are soft and can’t put there heads over the ball but this could be because they had a lot of young guys with small frames.
They do a lot of work off the field, they run some pretty big functions during the year where most of the town turns out. They have good membership base and things such as reverse raffles do quiet good. They have some pretty good sponsorship such as their premier sponsor Gasons. God i wouldnt call the younger players at Ararat soft in anyway i actually thought those kids go in pretty hard given their size and against stronger bodies. I would find it hard for anyone who follows the rats to say any of them went in soft thats onething last year they can pride themselves on and if they did Fish would have them sitting on the pine. Just look at Batchy 60kg and always put his head over the ball and got smashed from pilla to post. U dont win a toohey on being soft some of those horsham boys may want to pull their heads in if they say that

Yea mate you have hit the nail on the head with that. the club doesnt go out and see players, they think cos fish is there that every1 will just turn up. Look what is happening this year alot of them good kids are leaving.

Are you still sure on the finals?

Yes ****y Pants, Still think Ararat will make the Finals, Have only lost 2 players at this stage and have signed the Searle brothers, The way the young guys have grown and improved and an injury free Bligh means the Rats will be up there. Turner will play 2 has been training the house down!

Who exactly is they? I have heard from Ararat committee men that a lot of their players who have been there for quiet some time still are just players and not clubmen. Blokes who should be pulling their weight still refer to the club as ‘they’ instead of ‘we’. Is it a little bit possible that some of the young Rats are not all that good at doing the hard yards when the game is done?

So what are you saying? that the young kids have to run the club as well as play football and still are going to school. Some of them so called committee men are only around when things are going ok, dont get me wrong some do a power of work at the club but its not the 17 year olds job to go out and recruit new players, its the coaches job, thats all im saying i think Fish and the rest of the coaches didnt recruit as hard as they could of. Just hope the rats are around the make again and dont slip down the ladder this year.

Think you will find that most of the younger players at the club are sons of former ararat players and have shown great commitment to the club. These kids have come thru the junior ranks and have continued to play at a senior level much to the delight of their family. I think entire list (maybe except a minute couple) are for the club and are not their for themselves. As for an earlier reply to my statement about the club ringing the list from last year i would have to say that your incorrect they havn't rang all of the players - you can count that as a fact. They would be such a better club if they stop thinking players will just fall in their lap and actually go out and have a chat to players regarding their ability it means more memberships more money over the bar and maybe if they enjoy it they may bring others its not a hard process.

Agree with your thoughts there Beto. Dimboola and the Diggers both in for long, long years.

Whats the goss on Stawell recruits any loses??? Carr went in for surgery on his dodgy knee last week hopefully he can finally get it right after many years of grief at Belmont Modda and now stawel. To good of a player and to young to be having knee problems. Is Hansey playing again??
