Theyd get 34K capacity at KP.. at the G I reckon they'd get 45K max!

It's not actually their final, though.

I'm of the opinion that Geelong should be able to have all 11 home games at Kardinia Park each year. They can sell 95% of the tickets to members and stiff shit if travelling fans from Melbourne or elsewhere can't get in.

But that's not how finals work. Every home final we've had in Perth the crowd has been 90%+ Eagles fans because Perth is a long way away from the teams we have played. If we played Freo that would change. Would Geelong fans be happy with a final at Kardinia Park if half the seats went to opposition fans?

I'm of the opinion that the player's comfort comes first- happy to sit out all matches if it suits the team!

it would be funny if all these Geelong fans crying for a home final got there wish and we ended up losing.
I can remember the fans were crying and whinging when the AFL were making their decision back in 2013 and it was Fremantle v Geelong. As soon as the AFL confirmed it would be at Kardinia Park, Geelong fans thought it was a straight up win and started celebrating that very day.

Yeah it would be hilarious to see our team lose. Nearly as funny as the idea that if we did host a game and lose it, you're equating the result with the venue

Which team are you following this week by the way?

Think its a good thing for Geelong, they dont have the best record in finals there, having not won a game in the Afl era.

Geelong has a 0% finals win percentage at KP so I'm not sure why there is complaining...

Nice to see our record will continue for another year then. Surprised they're not considerate of the local Geelong economy this year.

How they can justify playing at Spotless and not Kardinia is baffling? It is not like there hasn't been a game played at the G on a finals weekend before. The Cats have gone to the trouble of renovating the ground. Let the Cants use it.

Perhaps they're worried that because of the non-Melbourne based teams dominating the upper part of the 8, that only 1 game could be played at the G before the GF.

Ah, the peak of Freo's glory days. Did you get a trophy for that?

Lucky for Geelong, those days are well over.

Would you like to host one in Geelong?
I bet not.

That's pretty much what you're bagging us for.

I'd love for Richmond to host a final at Punt Road Oval, because we train there everyday. But that's ridiculous, because the capacity is much lower than the MCG.

Way to miss the point.

I probably won't have time to go, but it'd be nice to have the option.

Exactly!

Same with Adelaide's QF - I think they're saying it will be played in Adelaide, but it really should be held in North East Victoria to accommodate me, in case I had time and felt like going. I probably wouldn't, but nice to have the option.

Thats not even close to a like for like comparison. It only is if the alternative is you play geelong in geelong for your home game because punt road is too small. Mcg is fifty metres from punt road for crying out loud and you play all your games there.

Have to side with the Geelong fans on this one, home final should be played at their home ground. Who really cares if a few fans miss out on going, it's their best chance at getting a win so they should be able to play there if they choose.
But it's not a home final.
Why do people keep saying this?
There is no such thing as home finals.

Home games are played during the home and away season only.
Finals are a completely separate system which for a long time have been played at the biggest/best/most suitable venue. This continues to be the system in place. The only rule is home state, after that it's at the discretion of the AFL after they consider all of the factors at play. In 2013 they played the game at Kardinia because the G was being used all weekend and the estimated attendance at Etihad was very close to the estimated attendance at Kardinia.

Why have GWS been given the green light to host the Swans at Spotless Stadium then? It's got like 22k capacity. They'd get far more at the SCG or ANZ surely?

Says the Adelaide supporter whose team will be playing their QF in Adelaide. The hypocrisy is mind-blowing. :drunk:

Says a West Coast fan who'd be hosting home finals in Perth if they finished high enough... A few of you interstate supporters aren't realising the massive levels of hypocrisy in your posts. Oh dear.

Mate, come back to us when you end up playing a home final in a state that you dont even live in

West coast, adelaide and brisbane have all done that, and hell geelong were one team that benefited from it

Geelong playing finals at mcg is no different to bulldogs playing at mcg (over docklands)

Pretty sure mods have banned obvious sock puppet accounts.

I am of the belief that it should be played at a venue that holds the most capacity.

I don't have an issue with Geelong playing in Melbourne, I do have an issue with GWS playing at Spotless though.
