Simonds Stadium Snubbed For Finals

Geelong must consider abandoning stage 5 of the development and also consider moving permanently to Etihad stadium. It's a pointless exercise playing there if they cannot accommodate a GWS home final. Unless they play all home games and interstate teams in finals at Simonds then the stadium is a waste of money. Very disappointing.

So the 2009 grand final should have been played at Docklands? Didn't hear you complaining about the AFL finals venue rules then

You haven't been paying attention then- People have been calling for all home games at kardinia for a long time.

I'm not sure I get the furore around Geelong having home games in Geelong? Why shouldn't they?

Not enough away fans can go? Who cares, it's a home game for Geelong, the away fans and team can deal with it. Every club wishes they had a home field advantage like that, as much as they may argue against playing there.

So back in 2009 all geelong supporters were up in arms that the grand final was played at the MCG when St Kilda's home ground is docklands? I must have missed that thread

Hypothetically, if there was another stadium in Geelong that held twice as many people, I don't think any cats fan would give a f*** if they shifted a final there.

St Kilda play a grand final at the MCG - a few km from their actual home ground but still in their home city - almost sounds like a home game to me.

Home matches through the season, should all be at the discretion of the home team- sell the games to cairns, china or wherever. Everyone has 11 of them.

All finals in Victoria should be played at the MCG, full stop. If it so happens that there is 4 games on the one weekend, I guess now playing a final on a Thursday could mean a Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sunday game at the G. The bye before finals gives them that option.

The fact that we have everyone bitching and moaning about where the games should be, the MRP outcomes, umpiring is because nothing is ever clear out of the AFL, so many grey areas. They cant even make a decision regarding the time of the Grand Final for Christ sake!

It really is amateur hour stuff.

You should be on the AFL board - problem solved

The English Premier League is one of the most unequal competitions in the world, yet nobody bats an eyelid when Chelsea or Manchester United play away to Huddersfield (capacity 24,500) or Bournemouth (capacity 11,360).

Can anyone explain why any opposition clubs should be exempt from playing Simonds Stadium if we use the grossly unfair EPL as a precedent?

If Richmond get GWS week 1 surely they will need to move the game to ANZ stadium. 24,000 won't cut it.

The NRL will have games there for starters- and no they won't. Spotless is big enough. It's meant to be a home ground advantage.

Because not all clubs have their own home stadium and we don't play everyone once at home and once away every year. Your post is irrelevant in every sense.

Rubbish. A home ground is a home ground regardless of capacity.

We are entitled to 11 home games a season and should choose where they are played. If we want to sell games to China, Cairns or Tasmania it is our right. If we want 11 games at Simonds it is our right.

Stuff Geelong. They have asked to play Hawthorn at the MCG on Easter Monday and others there as their home game. If it's good enough for the H&A season, they can have it for the finals. Sick to death of their precious bleating.
Now turn that thinking to the "Big Four" clubs and their scheduling requests

I see- your point was a little opaque. The phrase false equivalencies comes to mind! the GF isn't really for the fans to attend, in any case.

Geelong play alot of home games at the G,it's only finals time they put that under the carpet.

By 'a lot' you mean two.

Round 6 v Collingwood and round 17 v Hawthorn are the only two home games we have played at the MCG this year.
