I think some on here would benefit from adjusting their expectations. We are NOT a contender, we are NOT a top 4 side and we should not be judged as such or measured against being a top 4 team..

We're a 5-10 team who needs to pump as many games as possible into Bruhn, Clark, Dempsey, Mullin, Neale etc.

We are rebuilding/ regenerating on the run. It's what we do. I get the 7-0 start got peoples hopes up, but it was pretty obvious even to me that was not a true reflection of where we actually sat in the pecking order.

But people chose to turn a blind eye, despite our obvious defficiencies, and criticise King, Buckley etc when they were critical of us and they said with our midfield that it wasn't sustainable or conducive to success.

They were right. I agreed with their assessments and they have proved to be on the money.

We are an elite club and we are building. Add a couple of 23-27 aged mids via trade / FA, keep pumping games into Clark, Bruhn, Dempsey Conway etc - gee we're looking good in 2 years.

Club knows what it's doing; we just need to back them and ride the bumps in the interim.

We will make finals given the great start, if we win one or two from outside the 4 then what a great year.

Mullin's a weird one. You could say he's got all the skills you can't teach, and few of the ones you can teach. That shimmy in the 2nd quarter. chef kiss

What I mean is that generic ball sport skills like sure handling of the ball, that sidestep, etc, have come over pretty well from Gaelic Footy. Other attributes that are more AFL-specific are still a WIP. For example, he's stopped roosting the ball a mile in the air, but now he's just over cooking the low, flat passes a bit. That howler of an attempted pass to Stewart was an example.

I don't think his game will develop as fast in the VFL. Investing more AFL time into him is the correct strategic choice. As long as players keep getting managed/injured/suspended, the MC will usually be able to slot him in.

Got a feeling we'll knock of Sydney next week. We should string a few wins together now we have confidence back.
Wish I had your confidence but playing at their Auskick oval of a ground really plays against our weaknesses. Grundy, Heeney and Warner gonna be a nightmare. Just hope they don’t give them a 30+ head start like they have the last 3 weeks.

I’ve been waiting all season for Dempsey to fall away - if anything he’s just getting better each week and has become a very important player for our structure. Rather incredible!

30 points is about right for a Richmond side completely decimated. First half was ordinary but the second half was good as we can build on it.

IN next week - Danger, Clark, Blitz and Stanley

Out - Mullen, Zac T, ?, ?
Surely Danger doesn't come in pre bye..??

Outside of Sydney I don’t know who is a contender at the moment. Every team has had games they’ve looked horrendous in. Just gotta get back to playing smart footy in the back half of the year and anything could happen.

Pretty sure it's whatever danger is doing here

Unknown to most here, the guy on the left is a school friend of Patrick's.
Was good at both cricket and footy as a youngster but had a heart transplant at school, think he even had another one a few years back.

PD has done a few sportsman's night type events raising money and awareness for heart and organ transplants.
Thought Mullin kept showing a bit, took a step back by being a bit tentative tonight and caught out of position but that will happen. Still did some nice things and he has an incredible ability to turn on the spot. Guy will be a gun, playing in the twos won’t help him, has to learn in the big league and he’s developing well
My view isn't anything more than what he is now.
I don't agree that he has to, he could learn in the AFL. He could also learn some things at the level below.

He isn't a must pick player at this point.

About the right result for a midfield missing Danger, Guthrie and Blicavs. Neale was decent once delivery improved. Conway decent. I don’t see how we can keep playing Neale, Hawk, Cameron and Rohan/Henry.
Not expecting a win next week and we need Danger and Guthrie back and in form to do anything in finals.

I still think Bowes is Duncan’s replacement, can win the ball but his disposal is shaky under pressure. Good near goal.

Dempsey is important already and will be an absolute gun.

Bruhn tough and kicked a much needed goal.

Holmes and Zuthrie good as always.

Kolo still in great nick and Henry and SDK improving.

Mullin is exciting at times but I hope he doesn’t turn into another jack of all trades. Would love to see him spend a solid couple of months in one position, seniors or VFL.

Building a good young spine and midfield. 3rd on the ladder halfway through a rebuild.

If we play the first half like we did the second, we beat the Tuggers 20 goals to 6. The Tuggers may be shit, but four quarters of that would surely beat GWS, Port, Melbourne, and at least be competitive against the Swans.
Footy doesnt work like that, it is a 4qtr game. The past 3 losses we have been jumped badly the first half, then once the oppo tires a little things even out around the ball and we creep back into the game.

Tonight was the exact same, except richmond are not as good as GWS, port and Melbourne so we overan them.

I am not going to celebrate a cone from behind win against easily the second-worst side in the AFL who had a massive injury list also.

See how we go against sydney.

He lifted exactly when he absolutely had to.

I was just about to stamp his papers; he was good as the game wore on though, no question.

Got fired up after conceding that soft 50.

That said, I thought Dusty was pretty subdued tonight. Two cheap goals notwithstanding. I think we did our homework on him. Did I see Shark running with him for a bit? Hard to tell on TV.

Kudos for the fightback, and going on with it, this time getting the chocs. I think amidst the wrist slashing, some have forgotten how close our finishes have been, except for the Darwin wobbly.

Yes we're all aware they took their time to get into the groove, but I have to say that umpiring was utterly ridiculous.
A few balancing moves, and a bit more muscle to get in sync with no frees, and it was a good come from behind win in the rain. Be grateful for small mercies.
So I lip read Jezza to Ollie and the words playing like horse shit were mentioned.
Or maybe referring to Umps, stay tuned, I'm going to replay that end of game conversation.

Good win good comeback… bit off topic, trying to track down a family that tried to get into the game but was mistakenly turned away by Ticketmaster at the stadium box office, kid in the family was crying as they left, start of game/early-first quarter?
(Yes new profile first post etc, still legit question) if anybody knows send a PM, just trying to help out

This game kept the questions coming for me but the biggest question I have is; do Richmond supporters boo Prestia's hamstrings as much as they boo Stewart since those things have caused the human meatball to miss way more footy than Stewart's hit did.
They were there? Barely heard them for the last hour. Like Dusty, they faded into obscurity very quickly tonight.

You actually lip read?? Or just having a joke

I’d argue his better games are in the wet
Player in front type, keeps it simple
Just having a quick look over the wet weather games and he takes 1 mark per game in the wet. He’s already just below average for marks per game in all weather. What he has going for him is his goals per game and goal accuracy. Obviously if he can’t mark it he can’t kick for goal. I’m a big fan of Ollie. Wet doesn’t suit his game.

Yep, we struggled to overcome a team thats been gutted by an extensive injury list, and who've consequently only won a single game so far this year.

I had to listen to the game on radio, and it seems it took some words by an 'exasperated' Scott at half time to get the boys interested in playing footy.

Being described as unwilling to get their hands dirty in the first half was damning. That they turned it around in the second half is commendable, and proves that they can do it.......it must be an attitude thing.

Bring the unwillingness to do the hard work against the Swans and we'll get smashed.
You missed a great fightback too, though.

Would have been 6 weeks since the injury if he plays. Which is roughly what we expected. But they’ve been ultra cautious with injuries this year so if he’s not 100% I’d say there’s no chance.
I personally wouldn't be taking that risk

I hope Bowes isn’t Duncs replacement. He’s so much better when he’s playing an inside mid role.
