I don't think they are pushing him out as such but also see an opportunity. They may also think he has peak value now, not in two years.

They are trying be proactive and get back into this year's draft.
It has potential to be mutually beneficial, which is why it's being explored. Houston will get a big pay rise for signing elsewhere that Port won't give him cause they have him locked up long-term, Port will get a maximum return for moving out a contracted player.

If Poet can then also bring in a free agent like Perryman or Cumming to provide immediate cover then it's a no-brainer move.
