I was trying to find a positive out of saturday nights game and i got one!! Kinda clutching at straws but

In 2007 Port beat Geelong round 21
Port lost gf

In 2008 Hawks lost to Geelong round 17
Hawks won the gf

In 2009 Saints beat Geelong round 14

So therefore

In 2010 Bulldogs lost to Geelong round 20
Bulldogs win gf

At last...stats that matter.

what's so funny about this is that when Geelong lost to the pies the media were quick to remind us of those stats, however we lose to Geelong and its season over :thumbsdown:

Very good point Cos. I still cant believe the media are giving this virus/flu no creedence whatsoever. Fickle industry....oh well we'll suck it and see.

Scaz, do you have the margins on these win/losses?
Might make me feel better?

Well Port lost the granny by 119 points after winning with the last kick of the day during the season.

We lose by 101 points and win on the last kick of the day will do me just fine.:thumbsu: Actually that's bulltish, would like to win a little earlier than that.

thats just mean im being nice and u say bring up this :( i have all but wiped the memory of that game from my mind!!

It's wrong to cling to those sorts of statistics. They mean nothing. Each game is different with different personnel, conditions and other dynamics. Even recent form isn't always a good indicator. It's how each team turns up ON THE DAY - no injuries and with plenty of self belief, skills working and just a smidgen of luck.

I realise we all need some hope but omens and history are not going to get us over the line.

Wasn't haven't a crack at port. Was more thinking about the 124 point turnaround. We only need 102. Help may be needed to find them though.

grand final week is a different story + half the team wont be playing coming off a virus and a tough trip to adelaide, conditions werent that good over there :D it'll be close

Very true

 Just looking around for more 54 references actually :D

It's partially because Eade has come out and said that the virus is no excuse for our poor performance.

That is because Eade is a football coach and not an infectious diseases physician, and has probably never heard of Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome. It is very common for viral infections, especially those of the respiratory tract, to leave patients with reduced energy levels.

The most common presentation is that the patient can sustain small amounts of effort (say the first 15 minutes of the 1st Q Saturday night), but then is left completely drained (allowing their opponents an air chair ride to kick goals at ease).

I would think Rocket fully understands what is going on but is just going along with the mantra of 'once you cross the line you are 100% fit' so we aren't seen to be using it as an excuse and so the players subconciously don't use it as an excuse too.

Oh I agree with you completley, half the team wouldn't have been able to train properly last week let alone play a full game.

Will we be OK for this week then?

We'll see how much the media say this week about the flu now that Selwood, Bartel and Ottens have come down with it. If they lose it will be a plague of bubonic proportions that no one could have played with.

Ok useless stats to keep our hopes up...

Every year since 2006 we have beaten the eventual premiers. This year we have lost to the top 3 so unless this year the winner comes from outside the top 4, we might be the team that beats them when it counts.
