Autopsy Rd 8: Dogs battle bravely and come up just short against Hawks

What I do find a bit strange is that the simultaneous view that this was a shocking loss and we're doomed for eventual bottom 4, but the very young players that are responsible for such a bad loss being a representation of a bad team will somehow improve and prove themselves to be better footballers than they are, despite the fact that by definition they have to be contributing to a bottom 4 team.

The nature of this loss has me questioning whether or not half a dozen young players in this team have a meaningful AFL future, and we shouldn't assume that they'll even be on an AFL list in two or three years, let alone playing, let along contributing winning value to an AFL list.

Funnily enough, many of those players are the ones (or vague equivalents) that people constantly wanted picked instead of the "whipping boys" that were selected last year and not this year. Poulter, Scott, McNeil (for the most part), Keath, Gardner, Daniel were not in this team. B by they have all proven even in their most recent "bad" games they played immediately before they were dropped for bad form to still have played better games than what JOD, Buku, Gallagher, Garcia, Bramble put out today. Which were the types of players that people wanted included.

Sorry to intrude but could noy go past without a comment

Personally i believe the Doggies have the equal to the best list/s in the league
Totally being wasted by the coach and sooner they sack him the better

I know a couple of people that have been sponsors for the doggies and have held hi positions and mentioned this to them for the last 2 years and they were not of the same opinion but are now doubting him.

But they did say he has alot of backing from influential people at the dogs
He is just wasting and killing the talent.

Never mind you guys will win by 60+ against my team

Outside of the clearances, they just smashed us for work rate, dominated the ground ball gets, uncontested marks and work rate on the GPS numbers.

Our skills weren't great either. Some big turnovers leading directly to goals.

Make no mistake though, this game was lost pretty much entirely on Hawthorn's superior work rate.

Only positive is that we almost won thanks to some brilliance in the clearances.
Their workrate was high class because they have a strategy, structure and coach that enhances their play.

You're a great supporter. Thank god we had a few more unlike you in 89.

Learn to read before posting mate, I will still be supporting the club financially, but I will not be renewing my men’s membership until I see actual change in the coaching department. Fortunately it looks like Bevo will be gone by the time renewal comes around.

Oh and the club of late is financially in of it’s best positions it’s ever been in, so the comparison to 89 in that respect is meaningless.

There’s too big of a gap between the good players and the avg players. Far too many don’t pull their weight

Outside the usual 8-9 players , the rest really don’t contribute much. Add Daniel and Macrae to the list now who don’t contribute as much as prior years

We have a list problem also. The last period of 4-5 years we haven’t got 2nd round picks

Such a cop out. Guess what? My money is my money, yours is yours and if I decide not to renew my membership because I'm not happy with the way things are at the club right now, that's my decision and mine only and it's so far from 89 it's not funny.

But why do those who don’t contribute get picked week in week out? They really are no good I agree, give some lads in the reserves a crack. Cleary always does well when he gets a game, and there is a few new recruits knocking the door down too.

Well someone has to make up the numbers unfortunately.

Isn’t that up to the coaching group to get the avg players up?

Chris Scott doesn’t have much “talented top picks” to choose from but he gets the most out of the avg players

Don’t keep playing the same average players if they aren’t contributing.

We keep losing the same way.
Consistently out marked,
can't win enough 50/50 ground ball,
poor turnovers,
Killed on the rebound.

We are a fair way off.

1. These are our problems, a new coach is not the answer. Our players lose their skills under pressure. Or maybe they don’t have them anyway. Marking, or lack thereof, is a MAJOR problem. So is sticking tackles.

2. Numbers at the ball wins games. Even for us. We don’t do it enough.

3. JJ should never kick in again. (That wasn’t the first time he’s stuffed it up.)

4. I’m worried about Libba.

Yes. It’s all very well to say “Play the kids” but when we then lose, it’s “Sack the coach”.

The older players at least know the ropes, as well as each other. There’s a lot to be said for team stability and the chemistry of knowing what your teammates’ strengths and weaknesses are. At the moment, during the “evolution” there are too many unknowns out there, week to week.

Our doggies have got themselves in a big hole, and we cant seem to dig ourselves out of it.

Bevo, can’t seem to see the wood for the trees, I love the guy but he is not getting the best out of this list.

I remember when he came in he rejuvenated the players, they played for each other, there was enthusiasm, a high work rate, enjoyment. At the moment the players are toiling, the don’t look like a team, no one flew the flag for Libba, they look mentally exhausted and confused, the game plan whatever it is the players are not confident of and have not bought into it.
