So who do you want in the PSD.

Really hope it's Tim Milera, the thing we are really lacking is that dead set forward pocket, and he definitely ticks the box. I would be rapt to get Chalwell or Menegola on the list as well. Anyway I faith in the recruiters they know their job a hell of a lot better than me that's for sure.

x2 :thumbsu:
I'm a fan of Milera. But as you said there are plenty of others I'd be happy with too

Pick Andreoli, Cooyou and Gugliamana and make all the folk in Carnarvon happy.

Seriously though, Andreoli fell off the draft radar very quickly. He was being touted as a top 30 pick. Collingwod are into Cooyou in a big way and Gugs is a very solid player. Perhaps a little Hams like in his attitude. You could do worse.

There is nothing wrong with picking guys from the WAFL. Getting beaten by more mature players from the VFL and SANFL means the WAFL is providing opportunities for the younger un-drafted guys.

We, at Hawthorn, were delighted with Ben Stratton...Daniel Chick, Craig Treleven etc

Andrioli slipped because he's an outside mid with poor pace and ok skills. Not great mix for AFL footy.

Late AFL hope for Blayne Wilson

A REBUILDING West Coast Eagles have all but assured former All-Australian youth defender Blayne Wilson of an AFL appointment with an invitation to train through to the December draft.

Wilson, 18, will start training with West Coast just four days after he was overlooked at the historic national draft held on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
West Coast finished last in season 2010 and have launched an ambitious rebuilding program with youth and snared prized picks Victorian Andrew Gaff, at number four, big WA forward Jack Darling (26) and South Australian ruckman-forward Scott Lycett at 29 in the national draft.
Wilson will immediately start a strict Eagles run rehabilitation program after end of season ankle surgery.
The aggressive running defender is expected to be able to join into more full training before Christmas, when he is likely to be a fully-fledged Eagles squad member.
It appears almost certain that the talented Peel Thunder in the outer extreme south of Perth and 2009 under-18 All-Australian half-back will be taken by West Coast as a pre-season senior list draft pick or be rookie listed at the AFL’s final selections for this year on December 7.
Wilson’s 2010 quest to be drafted was severely hampered with on-going osteitis pubis and his ankle problems.
His ankle and osteitis woes have even been assessed as possibly inter-related and Eagles management are understood to have contingency plans to assist the classy back man’s recovery.
Wilson played four senior WAFL games with a struggling Peel Thunder last year and then seven matches in 2010.
West Coast created a spot on their senior list to select the likes of Wilson with a surprise to sack severely injury-prone premiership forward Ashley Hansen less than 24 hours after the national draft.

Pretty hard to read the article. But you get the idea.

Happy with Wilson, so thats 5 new draftees? as well as 3 rookie upgrades which technically means a total of 8 new players on the main list and 3 incoimg rookies (including Crazy Sub Angles).

Not too bad for our crap list managers.

Found that on Wilson:

Name: Blayne Wilson
Height: 187cm

Wilson is a medium-sized defender with excellent disposal by either hand or foot. In 2008 he represented Western Australia at the NAB AFL Under-16 Championships, averaging 11 disposals, three marks, and three rebound 50’s. In 2009 he played in each of Western Australia’s five matches at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and was rated as its best by his coaches. His disposal efficiency rate of 88% was elite and the highest of any player in the Under-18 All-Australian team where he was selected at full back. At WAFL level he played 12 matches for Peel Thunder Colts, averaging 17 disposals per match. He made his league debut in Round 16, he played 4 matches and averaged 13 disposals and four marks per game. AFL Prospectus

Strong, dashing, marking half-back who was an All-Australian U18 in 2009 and who’s played senior footy with Peel. Has an appealing hint of aggression. Seems suited to only one position, but he does it well. Paul Daffey

Strong-marking medium defender who reads the game very well across half-back and uses the ball effectively. Earned All-Australian honours in 2009 and was consistent for WA at under-18 level this year, averaging 18 disposals at 78 per cent efficiency and five marks. Kevin Sheehan

Wernt the GC lining up for a pick in the PSD? dont suppose they will nab him first?

If they were targeting him - they could have had him in the draft rather than passing

As it is they have kept a spot open for the PSD - logic suggests they would only be doing that in order to get a senior player or someone who didn't nominate for the ND

Jordan Jones, Jacob Brennan and Blayne Wilson, all medium defenders. All 3 will find it hard to get games in 2011. Blayne may well be worthy of selection as best available, but how many of his positional type does the team need. To take another medium backman is overkill.

Have to agree with this - it's the one area we have 'depth' in - though Brennan looks a bit more like a small defender given his pace.

The only thing i might temper that with - is that Collingwood are basically a team with 5 medium defenders. (Harry, Maxwell, Shaw, Toovey, Goldsack)

I actually have a train of thought on this as well. If you look at midfield pressure and zoning in the back half medium defenders stocks are going up. A possible backline of the future is 2 KPP's, 3 medium defenders and 1 fast specialist small defender. Guys who can cover space, read the play well, contest and take marks are becoming more important as opposed to just covering blokes for match ups.

Good comments....

However this kid has elite.. ELITE... foot skills either side

Thats a serious point of difference.

I am more than happy to take a punt on him.

I watched him in 2009 at the championships ( the year he made AA ) and I got to tell you he was very impressive.

Yes .. 2010 .. was not as good .. TBH ... not ever close... but if the Club believe they can sort out his injury problems and he can regain the 2009 form ... then he is worth the punt.

Even at last years championships ... not 100 % fit ... his kicking was a feature that set him apart from the others.

I don't have so many concerns.

Primarily because i don't really rate Butler or Waters all that highly compared to other defenders like Gilbert, Shaw, Gram or Birchall. Blayne is a genuine defender and his sensational disposal by foot will seperate him from many of our other defenders.

I mean at least Bennan's got genuine pace and is probably more capable on smaller opponents than the likes of Waters and Butler.

Jordan Jones is a tricky one because i think he's a better midfielder than defender and ive got question marks about his kicking coming out of defence.

Having the options of Hurn, Sheppard, Smith, Stevenson and Wilson is a big improvment in disposal quality. We could release Sheppard, Smith and Stevenson down to a wing or even a HFF.

I'd much rather we promote Hams.

We are probably going to lose Embley, Nicoski, Lynch, B.Jones, Dalziell.

If Hams is a rookie elevation at the end of the season we won't have to go too deep into next years draft.

I had that in mind when posting my comment. I knew it'd be one of the first objections to my comment.

While I state the obvious in regards to the number of medium defenders, for the reason of his kicking ability he may be too good to pass up. I'm not against his selection, just concerned by the number of similar types.

It makes me wonder who's going to be the first to be deemed surplus and then moved on. The first string guys playing in HBF/BP positions are young themselves.

Whats your opinion on Isiah Stevens Swannies ?

Seems a perfect rookie type to take a chance on, also knows how to kick a goal.

He's the ultimate rookie selection, big boom or bust. If you think you can get him involved for more than 10 minutes a game and you're confident of that, then he'd be worth a shot. Would rate him quite easily ahead of Cooyou because he has the athleticism but also can play footy, just need to increase the motor and get him involved in a game more.

If you actually analyse our playing list we have plenty of room for Wilson.

There's a perception we have too many half-backs but any team would have at least a dozen guys that can play off half-back.

Wilson is an absolute elite kick and excellent game nous. I see him as our Wirrpanda replacement.

In time he'll allow Hurn, Sheppard, Stevenson and Smith to play roles further up the ground, and I can see him taking kick-in duties.

Blayne can also play well up forward, which is probably a little-known fact... and we certainly have room for a medium forward.

Or conversely, heaven forbid, BF posters over estimate the draft and players nominating!:thumbsu:

So you believe WCE preferred Brennan over Wilson, Fasolo, Ugle? Looking at the way the draft panned out, I really fail to see where any other team would have taken Brennan. Perhaps you could enlighten us, 'cos I see him being an easy rookie pick for us with zero challenge from any other team.

If you read some more of the forum you will see that Collingwood indicated they were going to draft him, so that's why the Eagles swooped.
Wilson, Fasolo, Ugle, Brennan - none of these guys have done anything at AFL level so I fail to see how you can see anything. Perhaps you can enlighten us.
