So who is the most underrated player in the AFL?

Lets face it, if Jack Watts was at a good club, and they could inspire him to lift his intensity, he would be a great player. I watched our team in 2012 play like shit. Guys couldn't take marks, couldn't get into position and looked real bad. But were they bad?

The exact opposite of what Richmond have done 2013 to 2014...

Were they ever good?

Also, Robbie Gray for most underrated.

Nathan Jones surely doesn't belong in this thread any more. It's become de rigueur to nominate him to the point of recognition.
Kind of have to agree now, he's been getting lots of attention but still recon he's underrated by many in the media until he's recognised as one of the few elite mids (in the area of watson, fyfe- but it's just my own opinion) because he's practically BOG every game unless there happens to be an ablett or pendleberry in the opposition side... which hasn't happened I think. He's way better this year then he was last year and I've been a fan since 2012 now

Dion Prestia has been largely underrated although this season he has started to make waves. Matty Boyd extremely underrated as was his mate Daniel Cross. Joel Patful is another beauty, would love him at Hawthorn. I also think Rhys Shaw doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

Probably fair enough. I don't have him at that level personally, think it's more a case of the dross surrounding him making him look better. Can't fault his attitude though, he's got absolutely the right way of going about things. Something his teammates could learn from.

Joel patful is that underrated it's not funny. Has had a slow start to the year but scalped nick Reiwoldt on the weekend and is starting to find some form. Does his job week in week out without complaint.

Woulkd have to be one of very few dual club best & fairest winners to not earn an All Australian guernsey?

Its usually the blokes who aren't flashy yet simply get the job done each week

Cale Hooker, Joel Patful, Kade Simpson, Luke Ball anyone?

each is as good as any in the respective positions yet hardly gets mentioned in the same breath as the top echelon.

(up until this year Simpson hadn't been spoken about all THAT much as a top class player)

Rosa is WC's most under rated, when we talk of our midfield it's usually the names of Priddis, Masten, Shuey, Selwood, yet there is Rosa getting 30 touches a game without a mention

Its more to do with him only playing at his absolute best when the Hawks need him to.

Correct.

He is our Mr. Fix-It. Knees have been an issue for him so a full season in the middle (whilst it would be awesome to see) just isn't possible anymore plus he is so versatile so we usually use him as a half-back or even as a lock down defender and just goes about his role quietly.

Saving his petrol tickets for the big moments pretty much, when we need him we throw him in the middle and forward and almost always has an impact.

For the bombers I reckon Hooker has been quality for a fair while now. I also have a fair bit of time for Stanton with how hard he runs.

I'm also not sure his body would hold up to a full season winning his own ball in the middle.

I'm naturally biased, but I think Rory Sloane deserves far more attention than he receives. And not just because he's got a great head of hair.

Have rated Simpson for a while now, but damn his disposal has been terrible this year.

patfull. been incredibly solid in defence for the past 2 years, won the last two b&f's. is the only defender so far this year to negate nick reiwoldt aswell. never gets any recognition outside of brisbane, he is extremely underrated
