All Melbourne have to do is where blue shorts.

Re: Soccer/Association Football Kit Discussion

Yeah the away side should always provide a strip that doesn't clash and IMO white shorts do not clash providing one kit is light and the other is dark

Also have found one other reason why the away was worn tonight, When Victory played in wellington they had to wear their home strip to remove the clash created by their away. Tonight is said to be a make up for the sponsorship deal on the away kit.

Yeah I have heard this as well, bit of a joke that we are being dictated what kit to wear by sponsors. Maybe they should make up some home kits with away sponsors on them or just have the same sponsor for both.

Another theory I heard was that Mehmet took all the home kits with him when they gave him the boot :D

Re: Soccer/Association Football Kit Discussion

Interchangeable kit elements is probably a smart thing for A-League teams. An all navy Victory home kit, with the availability of white shorts and stockings, should be adequate. The amount of combinations would surely be enough to stop all clashes (that's with the aid of a clash/away strip as well).

Does anyone know the life span for current A-League strips? Are most current shirts for 11/12, or 11/13?

It would change between each club. For example Victory and Sydney are on multiple year contracts with Adidas so may use the same kit for consecutive years. Heart on the other had have a 1 year deal with ISC and if changed to another manufacturer next season would obviously see a change in kit.

If i'm not mistaken, what he meant is that the security guard strip has to be worn for x amount of games as per the suppliers contract. Because they couldn't wear it v Wellington, they had to find another game to wear it to make up for it.

The hyundai logo looks really wierd on the mariners away kit.

I didn't know about the Heart being on a one year contract.

But the length of contract doesn't really dictate a kits longevity. Manchester United are in the middle of 13-year deal. Yet there is a one-season cycle for the home strip.

A kits longevity is simply based on a club's financial ethos. I mean, some clubs are able to introduce two strips a season, for a season (most top European teams). They're able to because the demand is there. Could an Australian sporting club do this? It's a different culture. And most fans would likely feel ripped off at having an outdated strip after 10 or 14 months.

So I was enquiring about that.

Re: Soccer/Association Football Kit Discussion

There is no real way to tell. this is the first year that the aleague has not had Reebok as apparel sponsor for all teams. Hopefully we see new kits each year even if they only have slight alterations.

Re: Soccer/Association Football Kit Discussion

That's why I asked.

My guess is that Adidas and Puma sponsored teams will most likely have new shirts. The companies would prefer a global 'image', and new templates display that, as long as the league is reasonably professional.

Crystal Palace are updating their crest. Fans are able to vote on their preferred design. A press release says:

Crystal Palace Football Club are updating and modernising the club's crest, and we want you, the supporters, to help us make this important decision. We're looking to apply a fresh and simple design that will look great across our kits, merchandise and the stadium, and are very excited about refreshing the image of the club.

After taking fans' feedback from the launch of the four initial options, the board of directors have made alterations to several of the original designs and added two new options. All six of the badges have been designed by Palace supporters, so vote for the design that you feel will help represent the club best. We have prepared many examples of the badges in use on shirts and merchandise to help your selection.

The new badge will be used exclusively from the 2012/2013 season.

Voting is open to season ticket holders (2011/12 and 2012/13) and members, half-season ticket holders, members of the Selhurst 6 & 12 initiative and Palace Player subscribers. Voting will close at 11.59pm on Wednesday 1 February.

A and D are my least preferred option. The former looking like a logo for a courier company, not a club. The intrinsic details also mean it'll be simplified on a lot of merchandise, rendering it relatively useless. D, although I like its simplicity, I find uninspired. Also, Palace's stripes might see the logo become lost. I'd prefer a more noticeable badge to make the design more prominent.

If an A-League club came out and unveiled B as their design, I'd be all for it. It actually looks like a Hawk. My first thought was that it seemed a hybrid of Hawthorn's current logo, and the original WCE design. It's sleek. But does it represent a club of over 100 years of age

So I'd like to see D, E, or F win it. I've also be partial to a circular crest, so I quite like E. It's easy to read, represents important information without clutter (colours, name, a date, and two design elements – it's usually hard to pull that off). I like the eagle and the way it sits.

If C had a better looking eagle, I'd love it. It sits in 8/10 territory, though.

F reminds me of art deco architecture, so I'm fond of it.

Re: Soccer/Association Football Kit Discussion

E or F. Is it wrong that I think B is "too modern" for an EPL club? Looks like it would be more at home in the MLS.
I'm a little disappointed that so many around here like it. It's a clean design, and it's very appealling to 'younger' fans. But is it really Palace? This is a football club of proud tradition. This isn't a franchise born out of 'growing the game'. It'd be so disappointing if it ended up winning. Hopefully the older age of the season ticket holder means another gets the gig.

Anyway, something of mild interest. It concerns one of my favourite footballers (only because he's lively and entertaining, not because he plays for a club supported by the Gallagher's and kids who've been into soccer for a year). Mario Balotelli recently changed shirts for Italy. It wasn't a routine change through damage. He actually swapped designs. In the first half, he wore the current 2012 Italy strip. The second, he reverted to the old variant.

Re: Soccer/Association Football Kit Discussion

Terrible, Barca's kit just keep getting worse IMO. They need to go back to the thick stripes or the half and half jersey.

It gets worse...

The leak history of the mock ups and photo of the actual kit, is here.

I'd likely say it's the real deal. The unfortunate thing with Barcelona is that their popularity has resulted in butchered kits. They're undeniably one of the biggest brands in the game. To bring out a new strip every season will simply result in more income. To draw people toward the new stock, you have to make them seem completely different to the last. That's why we've seen abominations of their classic stripes.

In the early part of the 2000s, they'd always wear stripes. The width a little wider than 'stock' stripes (examples this season are Southampton, Sunderland, Inter...) and the blue seemed a lot more royal.

Nike have botched the kits. Two coloured halves does not clarify as stripes, nor does an Ajax-stripe with a gradient. This current season has seen not only the stripes become almost pin-like, but the stripes being cut in half and 'altered' to create a pattern. It is disappointing.

But I've hated Barcelona for some time, so I need not care.
