Does this refer to me and, if so, what specifically makes me a "usual suspect" and what have I revealed about myself?

You are included, Bruce.

There are a few people who are against this who can be relied upon to voice their opinion whenever any sort of progressive message is promoted, decrying the politicisation of sport (as if it could be any other way), bemoaning the "PC SJW" agenda, denying that there are problems because it doesn't reflect their experience (of course, you aren't the group that would be experiencing it), unable to tolerate even the smallest symbolic gesture of inclusiveness without having a little tantrum.

Dinosaurs. Happily going extinct.

Can't say the Mardi Gras is my cup of tea, but I think it's a big stretch to interpret the Swans - who are based in the heart of the gay community - entering a float in that exuberant, colourful, celebratory event as "badgering" or "perpetuating victimhood". I think you're reading way too much into this action.

No. That's why I made my 3rd point separate to my 1st and 2nd points. They're kind of related, but different.

No we haven't. It's recognising that groups of people have been marginalised, abused, and legally discriminated against. Overweight people and people with large noses haven't experienced that.

So we can't, as a consequence, include those previously marginalised into our footy clubs and our communities unless we do so in some sort of plastic bubble?

Oh that's right. You're the sociologist bloke, or other gender non-specific being, who thinks my son and daughter are victims of my indoctrination rather than facts of Biology.

Dinosaurs. Happily going extinct.

Geez.....that almost looks genocidal!!

Geez I for one hope Bruce doesn't go extinct, you might not agree with him but at least he put thought into his arguments, this place would be boring if we all agreed with each other. Never liked echo chambers.

Not subjecting people to what you personally consider to be an acceptable level of homophobia or racism =/ putting them in a plastic bubble.

Not seeing a lot of thought in his posts in this thread.

We just had a SSM vote in which approximately 40% of the country voted against giving equal rights to the gay community.

Don’t tell me homophobia is dead. Things are better than they’ve been in a long time but there is still a lot of resistance there. Shows of support like this are nice.

That is actually 100% incorrect. Nor did it have anything to do with "giving equal rights to the gay community".

The vote had nothing to do with "homophobia". The question was precise.

Every person in this country regardless of sexuality has equal rights whether homosexual, transexual, heterosexual or any other prefixsexual (just dwell on the number of categories there are for a while for how laughable this all has become) and has had since around the year 2000 in absolute terms and much earlier in practical terms regardless of what think.

You cannot possibly know what the people who voted "no" where thinking? How can you imply around 40% of the people in this country are homophobic or that any type of hatred of homosexuals had anything to do with a no vote?

That is projection and ridiculous. Shameful actually.

No. You're just not seeing the right kind of thought. It's interesting......someone mentioned before that certain sayings were homophobic. I said they were worse. They referenced rape. And gave an example of one saying used frequently by certain preachy commentators on SEN. That post has received just the one like. It wasn't responded to, as neither were a number of comments which addressed the more empathetic side of this debate, for want of a better expression.

You see, for some, it's not about equality. It's about never ending victimhood.

What reasons are there for voting no that are not the reflection of bigotry against homosexuals?

I find it ironic that you talk about never ending victimhood when you continually paint yourself as the victim of societal change that you don't understand or accept.

This has been done on the main board. What reasons were there to vote no that weren't based on bigotry or religiously justified homophobia?

Wow. Just totalitarian wow. How many pointless talking points and platitudes to feelings.

Isn't it funny that inclusiveness and its by product diversity means we all have to think and dress and act the same way?

At least you give the game away. Honest in a simple way.

It is all about a "progressive message" which is just another way of saying left wing power politics. Control.

In fact us dino's as you snobbishly put it are hardly going away. Look around.

You really hate individuals and free thought don't you? Despise it? Makes you seethe. Why won;t us peasants just toe the damn line!

You clearly have spent too much time playing the victim if you are going to read all that in to what I wrote.\

You don't promote tolerance by accepting intolerance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance

It isn't totalitarian. It is the foundation of an open society.

The dinosaurs are disappearing. What would the result of the plebescite have been 10 years ago? 20 years ago?

Collect those toys you just threw out of the pram and fade away.

Are you trying to do a parody of the type of person that post described? What a mess...

Iatrogenics.

Sorry? Exactly what societal change am I painting myself as being a victim of? And "continually"? You'd best give me three. Otherwise you just made something up.

Donald Trump is President of the United States. The reason is people like you. The dinosaurs aren't disappearing. Sadly, they are instead coalescing.

And it's a truly worrying sign.

HAHAHAHAHA! Oh I see - done on the main board. Well it is all decided then.

I find it hilarious that you both answered in a heartbeat of each other with the same old talking point. It is as if there is only one point of view or something. Only one way to think. Gorgeous - and scarily telling in fascist and totalitarian. And then breaking that awful awful dangerous and disgusting thought process down to a vote on a narrowly worded voluntary survey as if it defines a person in totality. Gee whiz that's nuts.

But I dunno let's toss a few before I trot off to my knitting circle, not that you really care. Better to yell bigot, racist, sexist, homophobe and tweet about it or something.

Many thousands of years of human tradition across all cultures

An individuals right to believe that language and words have meaning. And bastardisation of them is not right in the pursuit of politics.

Despising identity politics because you actually appreciate its danger. In other words you have a brain.

Religious freedom.

Free thought.

Free expression.

The realisation that this was done for control.

The total lack of any legal progression.

Dislike of symbolism.

You are a Muslim.

You know - stuff like that.

Back in the day the gay community used to laugh at the straights - silly people getting married, we are so far beyond that and free in our sub culture and perfectly happy. Wonder what happened? Now its BIGOTS BIGOTS EVERYWHERE

Bet you 2 kids can't guess which way I voted and why. Love you to have a try.

Sorry? Exactly what societal change am I painting myself as being a victim of? And "continually"? You'd best give me three. Otherwise you just made something up.

You appear to feel oppressed by people "lecturing" you or delivering "sermons" on issues of gender and sexuality, resent being asked to consider the effects of language, resist the idea that perhaps there is still work to do on achieving certain equalities... You have repeatedly presented yourself as victimised by what you perceive to be unwelcome social expectations to question your assumptions.

A genuinely held and, it would seem justified, sense that it would open the door for so called progressives to will the "extinction of the dinosaurs".

I have a question for you. At my club there's a pair of old blokes. About 85yo I reckon. I call them Stadler and Waldorf.

They don't hate gays as such, but they have a pretty set, and old school, caricature in their minds as to what it is to be gay. So they, on occasion, will call an opposition player a ****ter.

My reaction to this has been to gently remind them that such language is no longer acceptable at our club. They always kind of chuckle and say "Sorry Brucie."

Should I kick them out of the club? They've been around 60 odd years.
