We will miss him a lot. It was noticable how much our play improved when he moved deeper forward. He has through his speed and evasion and anticipation the ability to disorganise defences, and in modern structured football the ability to stretch a team to the point they lose cohesion is the key to scoring in big chunks. Without that, we are decidedly more mortal, and need other strings to our bow. Hopefully Coxy can provide that capacity to disorganise with his height now instead, and maybe Elliott if he comes back. But there is no like for like replacement with the same impact. It is what it is.
Out of this we may, (hopefully) become stronger as we structure up differently.
Imagine if he did a hamstring in the last round and we had to restructure then.
Good time for it to happen IMO.

Maybe. We will see.

Just everyone be nice for this once I guess. Let it ride.

Certainly a steep penalty for stupidity and to make an example of him was warranted. What I find disturbing though is the incentive for anyone or any club to self report and regulate has been utterly wiped off the table.

I think given the gravity of the penalty - not just games and money but the mental strain it will put on a very young man - will and should make every player, manager and club baulk at following this honest course of action.

Every manager should be asking their players to come to them first before deciding what to do next. The manager will then act in clients best interest. A necessary evil as I see it now.

Honesty is great but you cannot cultivate an honest culture with penalties like that. It is plainly clear he would have got away with it if he was not honest and didn’t follow the process. The vast majority would not have been honest and now they would be vindicated in that thinking.

This should have been an opportunity to educate not execute. It is akin to a kid owning up to swiping a business mans wallet then publicly cutting their hands off. Will that stop stealing? Maybe a bit, will that kill honesty, absolutely, cover your tracks kids no matter what you have done.
The fact that he self-reported just might have saved Stephenson from getting a 22-game ban. It was made quite clear by the AFL's Andrew Dillon that doing that helped his cause considerably, so I'd call that a powerful incentive for players/clubs who find themselves in this situation to do the right thing.

Dave it’s all good we’re all a bit on edge and disappointed tonight.

Very True. I aplogise to Apex36 but I think he been overly harsh and maybe what has Happened last few days means Apex36 and others Don't have any Patients

Thank God he didn’t complain to roaming BT about his blown multi. What a muppet. Does he realise how many microphones are situated around a modern AFL game?

Apex36 is well aware of your situation Dave.......like you this thing has upset me......maybe we should just take a step back and a deep breath.

You don’t need to stop posting mate IMO.

All good mate, we’re all on edge, sorry for being blunt. Just try to understand that absolutely nobody is suggesting that Jaidyn should be banned for what he’s done. He’s just very lucky not to have been suspended for a lot longer. The AFL didn’t have to suspend 12 weeks of his punishment, they could have easily given him the full 22 games. What he did was incredibly stupid, but definitely not worthy of a lifetime ban.

I blame the game. We pay these young blokes peanuts and they have to subsidize their income somehow.

Once I settle down a bit and let this pass I will come to relies that.

That okay mate. You were not Purpsoly trying to piss me off but we are on edge so I can understand the bit over the Top Reaction

Lol? You serious? Jayden is the difference between use finishing top four or not...
Did you see the stats on 360 tonight?
He is the igniter.
Number 1 in the AFL for scoring goals in the first 10 minutes of the game.
And top 4 or 5 in other stats.
As well as allowing the rotating FF structure between him and DeGoey.
Yes, deadly serious about missing top four without his input, and importantly, speed inside the F50.

We may need Thomas to revert to his more offensive crumbing role from last year, in the absence of Stepho. Or perhaps keep Browny there.

I’m struggling to see any player we have that can impact the game the way Stepho has this season.
We will restructure. I’m afraid Thomas doesn’t give us that breakneck speed that Stepho has.
Look at the last goal assist he had. The corralling of the oppo player, the tackle, the pick up, the eyes lowered, the pinpoint pass.
This is something I don’t see in 10 year players, and certainly not in any current CFC player.
The Lab on 360 tonight examining his running patterns was sensational. He may not be a rocket scientist off field, but he is a big thinker on it.
We often talk about the F50 impact of Cox or Reid, I tell you the impact of this loss will be much higher than any of those two.
One less gifted player for the opposition to worry about

Will we miss finals without him??? I doubt it. We are set up well enough not to drop out of the top 8.
Indeed it will be interesting to see who we can throw in the fwd line this time.
As they say in the commercials, don't imitate but innovate.
A veteran player, a recycled mid season draftee, R2D2 or a long forgotten sweeper?
Different attributes, different fwd mix and let's see what works.

The fact he self reported cost him a 10 week ban, had he not reported himself he gets nothing as it is undetectable. Not sure where the incentive is there.

Anyone who bets on their own betting account will get caught whether self reporting or not. Garry Lyon attests to that who was recently found and warned for betting too close to game time which media cannot do. I believe Heater got caught betting on a Pies game on his account did not self report and got 8 weeks.

Someone in Stephenson’s situation will never self report ever again. The message is clear, do not volunteer to become the whipping boy.
