Song Contest Update -

So far there's 16 songs nommed with 6 returning entrants so far and possibly a debutant.

What's amazing is there hasn't been the same sub-genre nommed yet (yes there's some genre overlap). Therefore it's a virtual guarantee there's something everyone will enjoy... but also a virtual guarantee everyone won't like something as well . Suffice to say I'm pleasantly surprised by the diversity!

A bit under 5 hours to get your nom in Plugger35 .

Isn't it the case in just about every round that people get BMs for songs they love? That's why I don't like the idea.

Im in favor of it only because it helps break down positions. Otherwise you get a lot of equal finishing pisitions. Unless we did a countback on every position which is onerous.

Can’t see that it would be much more difficult doing countbacks - is that even necessary apart from the winners? Just as easy to count the 5s as count the BMs and also would save time having to count the BMs

It's still onerous and some people struggle enough releasing results on time as it is.

By that logic, why bother with votes at all. Just someone names a theme and we all suggest good songs which meet it, we might discover new artists / songs.

One fun thing about the Billy is the av aspect

Plus it takes some integrity to nom songs you love anyway despite the Billy risk

And it offers something for the Billy baiters out there who are in the minority anyway
(Coming from someone with way more Billies than wins despite not being a Billy baiter - it’s just a reflection of my taste not being mainstream)

In other words I’m in the - it’s not broken, so don’t fix it camp

But I’m so in and out these days and even when I enter I’m not around for the release that I’m not across people’s tastes as much anymore

If it’s brought back I would make more of an effort though

As someone who's been Billy nuked multiple times I've been disappointed, even hurt, by the rebuke. But that feeling quickly dissipates as I realise that some of my tastes just don't align with the Song Contest's and that's ok.

If it happened all the time it would suck but an occasional reminder that I like some music that's pretty unique around here is like a badge of honour.

You're tastes are unique as well and even if some of it doesn't jive with the majority on here, most respect that it's different and that you stick to your tastes.

And besides there's usually a Billy bait song to bare the brunt (you're not going to have a worry this round that's for sure).
