WTF do I do??? I have been addicted to QOTSA for about a month now, I'm not even kidding, they are pretty much the only thing I've listened to during that time. BUT IT'S IRON MAIDEN!! :(:(

So I ask, do I try get near the front for QOTSA and probably end up in a crap position for Iron Maiden, or do I watch QOTSA from further back to get a good spot for Iron Maiden? SO TOUGH!!!

No question about it. Get front and centre for QOTSA, and then roll the dice on a gap opening up for Maiden.

well slayer cancelling was exceptionally disappointing, but what can you do?
I was really looking forward to seeing them again (haven't seen them for about 10 years), and especially with the novelty of having gary holt playing as well.

didn't notice anything other than a lot of booing when it was announced, but have since seen footage on youtube of some clown trying to burn a slayer shirt as a 'protest'.
am amazed that no-one knocked him the fck out for being such an idiot then and there, but hopefully he was one of the clowns carried out of later in the day by the st johns officers.

some people were raving, but I thought rob zombie was pretty disappointing? not a fan of his music, but wanted to see 'the big rock show' which didn't really happen due to technical hiccups.

sevendust (not usually my cup of tea at all), put on a really good show

devildriver - were good live, but the sound wasn't great so that detracted somewhat.

terror were awesome, and goddamn I'm glad I wasn't near the pit hehe. there were a few meathead f-wits just looking to fight, which I really just don't understand, and it was pretty brutal in there - good show though.
(didn't see BMTH as I have no interest in them at all, but heard their pits were really pretty crazy too?)

dimmu borgir - was really keen to see them and they put on a good show, BUT the 'keyboard player' just triggered samples and then stood there - I don't think I saw him actually play the keyboard?!
vortex's clean vocals were piped in as well which was VERY disappointing to see sing? a shame that their first trip to australia seems like it was kind of half-assed.

iron maiden - as mentioned in another thread, not a great setlist, and sound was pretty washy in the stands. went down on the dancefloor around halfway through and things picked up considerably - last 1/2 hr of the show was fantastic.

saw a few other songs here and there from other bands, but that was it for the bands I really wanted to see.

Really enjoyed the day. Sydney Showgrounds venue was great.
My day went as follows:
Feeder, 36 Crazyfists, Monster Magnet, BFMV, Stone Sour, Primus, Slash, 30stm, Zombie and Maiden. Had planned to see Slayer but heh as Fat Tony says ...Sh1t happens.

Impressed by a few things, the crowd behaviour was outstanding. I didn't see one fight or arrest (although I'm sure they happened somewhere). I really like BFMV now. Something special about Brit metal isn't there. Primus were a surprise packet as well. Hadn't seen much of them before.

Plenty of water available if you take your own empty bottle.

Good day all round.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here but anybody heading to the Melbourne Soundwave on Friday there aren't any trains running from the city to the showgrounds. Just called up Metlink and found out. I forgot to ask if there were trains going back to the city afterwards.

Real pain in the ass but I'm looking forward to it. My second Soundwave after last year.

That can't be right...

Went to the Brisbane Soundwave, here's what I saw that's worthy of mentioning...

Monster Magnet: Pretty good, was ****ing hot at this time of the day though and being a soft Victorian, I left half way through.

Primus: Pretty awesome, was great to finally see them live. My third favourite for the day.

Slayer: Very good, feel for Sydney missing out on them.

One Day as a Lion: Pretty cool, all their songs sound the same, though. They're no RATM or TMV.
QOTSA: Pretty standard QOTSA set, was good seeing them play a festival slot at night though since Brisbane doesn't have daylight savings. Seeing them on Thursday in Melbourne, certain that will be a lot better. Second favourite of the day/night.

Melvins: pwned. Missed the first 10 minutes thanks to the mad rush from people going to see Maiden, but **** they were good, great setlist. So tight, uber jealous of those seeing them with Primus. Favourite of the day/night.

:thumbsu:

my plan for melb is to try and catch the sword, monster magnet, gang of four, social distortion, primus, slayer, qotsa, melvins, the bronx and ****ed up.

will prob miss high on fire, kylesa and maiden. :(

I had every intention to see the first two, but yeah, they clashed with others, unfortunately. The timetable changes were great though, far more accomodating than what was originally posted; bands like Primus and Melvins were put on for longer and didn't clash with other bands I wanted to see.

Looking forward to this one tonight!
Stone Sour was epic! Corey (slipknot) was intense & Roy on drums was exceptional. Hung out with Roy after the gig & a nicer bloke you wouldn't meet.

Missed out on the Kylesa/High on Fire sideshow last night due to work, but am heading to Melvins/Primus tonight.
Lucky bastard.

Setlist for Monster Magnet Bris set if anyone's interested:

- Nod Scene
- Tractor (hell yes!)
- Dopes to Infinity
- Dig that hole
- Medicine
- Orb FX Freak Out
- Powertrip
- Spacelord

Statement Regarding Deryck Whibley

We regret to inform everyone that we have had to canceled a few shows due to Deryck whibley being hospitalized with severe pneumonia. Deryck is currently being treated in a Sydney hospital. Doctors are doing their best to beat the pneumonia and deryck will remain in Sydney until he has recovered.
As soon as deryck is out of the hospital the band will return back to the stage performing their Screaming Bloody Murder world tour with the usual high energy kick ass shows

Well that sucks.
