In your opinion what makes a good coach? Based on what you have said so far, a coach isn't a good one until he's won a division 1 premiership, so there are a lot of bad coaches out there according to you.
As someone else said, coaches have to start somewhere. Essendon are taking the punt on James Hird who has the credentials of coaching his son's under 11's, it didn't stop them.
The last 4 division 3 premiership coaches have been playing coaches, does that answer your question? All current AFL coaches were pretty decent players were they not?

I have an opinion thats all so chill out and enjoy my posts if nothing they make for good reading!!!
Tats is a great bloke and knows his way around a footy club when it comes to coaching, one of the biggest mistakes Clayton has made was letting him and Simmo go a few years ago as they are both worth their weight in gold.

I am not bagging the man you people read things and then go off all i said was this guy has a Div 3 ressies record so i asked the question why would you pump up an unproven coach at senior level as if he was some SFL legend..
Now get this my (opinion) thats all it is
I think Mount needed to get out of that Click they have down there to get to the next level..
If 2nds Coaches are so good maybe they should get Steve Muscut back after all he won the 1st div ressies flag right???

We, the players, ALL love Tatts. Every single one of us.
You can bet your bottom dollar everyone at the club will be wanting to play for him.
You will have a great year under him, and i have no doubt that if you have the cattle he will make it work for you...

For the last time i wasnt bagging the guy i was never mind...
Look good for you but to suggest everyone loves a coach means he is more a mate than coach i would find it very hard to believe everyone loves the coach most maybe but not everyone.
Lets hope he didnt knife the supercoach behind the scenes!!!!

I see that Doveton Eagles have now got a new executive committee and have advertised for all new coaches except for the ones that coached last year.
They seem to have a new website and are getting new jumpers.
Also a very interesting read on their website re the SFL !
To all Members, Players and Supporters of the Doveton Eagles Football Club:
It has come to the attention of the Committee that an article has appeared in the local newspaper concerning the Club. Upon reading the article we believe that it is biased against the Club including its Players, Committee and Supporters.
The Club has a new committee and will be appointing new coaches. It has adopted new ethics and conduct procedures that are second to none. It is not the intention of this Club to breach any of these procedures or the By-Laws of the Southern Football League. The same level of compliance is expected of the Officials of the Southern Football League and the players, members and officials of all the other Clubs in the League.
We have accepted the leagues conditions and all we expect from now on is a fair go on a level playing field and cant wait for 2011 season to arrive.

Good mate, real good. Things constantly on the improve and thats all you can ask for. The big Hendo has returned and is on a whirl wind tour before he has another stint over seas just after christmas, then he's back just before footy season.

Dandenong Pre-Season started tonight at Greaves reserve Bennett street, Dandenong. Will be held every wednesday 6.15pm at Greaves until christmas. New Players more than welcome.

In my opinion I think Endeavour Hills will do well in Div 3, have a great coach in Matt Ashenden. Having played under him before I probably regard him as the most tactically sound strategic coach for such a young age (then 26 yrs old).
Also has a lot of contacts who have TAC cup experience, a few at St Johns OC (Div 2 VAFA & Doveton. Whether he can get them across to Endeavour Hills will remain to be seen. I wish the new club all the best

Cerberus will still have a thirds side. And it should be pretty competitive.

No Div 3 player should be on a match payment contract. A simple reward set up for B.O.G is eg dinner for two or a free Happy Meal.
There are enough Div 3 clubs just hanging in there or rebuilding from debt as it is!
Agree to a certain extent. Maybe not $$$ per game but B.O.G. incentitve awards should be introduced ($150 best, $100 2nd best & $50 3rd best etc) As we were in the VAFA, dinner for two, Mentone Hotel drink voucher or a haircut voucher was what the best 3 got.
Speaking of which I had a mate who went down to Sandown last year having previously played Oakleigh Dist & Scoresby reserves, found out that players were getting paid $150+ in a team that finished 2nd last!! When he requested that some coin come his way, he was told that $50 per game was all they could manage.
Needless to say this guy won the club B & F but no longer plays there anymore
