Yikes. I thought Brighton would be better than that
They held their own for large parts of the first two quarters and were missing a few. The talk is they will be Div 1 next year. Facilities and junior program all better than it ever has been.

People have to understand bar Glenorchy any TSL team would flog SFL teams.
Lindisfarne play NH this weekend so will be interesting to see a score from that.

Kingpin would definitely know for sure, but I am not sure that it has happened. I could be wrong.
Answer: No.
New Norfolk have never had a winless season in their TFL stint between 1947-1999 or in their SFL stint between 2000-2022.
It's not possible to ascertain whether they had one in their involvement in various country leagues prior to their entry to the TFL in 1947 owing to a lack of records.

They have had five previous seasons of winning only one match for a season.

2022 – They beat Hobart by 18 points at the TCA in one of the early rounds in a great game of footy spoiled by umpire Craig Smith paying all sorts of ticky-touchwood rubbish in the last 7-8 minutes of what promised to be an absolute barnburner of a finish.

1998 – Mired in deep financial doo-doos' reported to be upwards of $460,000 at the time, losing a swag of top players and with their viability of remaining a TFL member under serious scrutiny, the Eagles beat North Hobart by 17 points at North Hobart on a cold, dull mid-season Sunday game for their only win that year.

1962 – Waited until their final match of the season to bring home four points, this time against Hobart at Boyer by 8 points.
Hobart were obviously in a rut as they bombed out badly in the First Semi the following week and New Norfolk would go on to have several strong seasons following that culminating in the 1968 flag.

1954 – Their only win that year came against North Hobart late in the season by 13 points at Boyer in front of 880 people.
Unfortunately for the Eagles they became the only side to concede 200 points in a TFL match between 1932-1979 the following week to New Town.
The ups and downs of footy!
They also drew against North at League HQ in Round 9 before 1,708 people.

1947 – A tough first initiation for New Norfolk stepping up from country footy to join the big boys in the TFL.
They recorded their maiden TFL victory over fellow debutant, Clarence by 33 points in front of only 851 at Bellerive for their only win that season.

The club is pleased to welcome our new Club Reserves Coach Will Perry for Season 2023.

Will returns to the HFC, already well known to our members after coaching the club's Under 18s side to an undefeated Premiership season in 2017; before taking on line coaching roles with Lauderdale and North Hobart in the TSL.

Perry received the SFL Coach of the Year Award in 2017 and will be a valued addition to our Club. He has already commenced recruiting for Season 2023 and beyond, and has had positive indications that 10 of his past players will return to the club.

Training this week returns to the Tuesday and Thursday 6pm time slot, player and supporters tea on Thursday night.

See you there #AGreatTradition

The SFL have posted the following.

Tonight the SFL Board met to discuss a request from the Hobart Football Club to be given permission to play reserves only in 2023.

The Board endorsed Hobart’s request and agreed to allow the club to field a stand alone reserves team for the 2023 season and allow them the time to ensure they are able to return to a seniors and reserves model in 2024.

The Board also agreed in Hobart Football Club permitting senior players to other clubs for the 2023 season to allow them to pursue their football careers this year whilst allowing the Hobart Football club the opportunity to discuss with those permitted players the plans for the 2024 season at the conclusion of the 2023 season and provide those players an option to either return to the HFC or to continue their football journey at another club under the normal club transfer and clearance arrangements.

There will also be discussions with clubs regarding rostering of the Hobart games to maximize the benefits for all clubs.

We acknowledge this is an unusual set of circumstances facing the club and commend the work of the Hobart Football club faithful for coming together and doing the work required to take the first step in ensuring the clubs long term survival.

The SFL Executive will work with the Hobart Football Club to develop pathways and identify areas to be addressed to give them the best chance to return to full playing capacity in 2024.

The SFL, on behalf of all the SFL Clubs, thank the football community for their support of the Hobart Football Club during what has been a extremely difficult time for the club.

All clubs are looking forward to the competition getting under way in the Mens comp on Good Friday and the Women’s leagues soon after in what will be a bumper season.

The thing is how do Hobart get up next year when they don’t have juniors or represent a community area?
There are only 11 under 18/19 sides this year in Southern Tasmania (6 SFL, 5 TSL) and some of them may not even see the year out without forfeiting here and there.
That needs to feed 6 Old Scholars, 9 SFL, 5 TSL clubs with seniors and reserves (so 40 teams of 22). You could even argue it needs to feed the ODFA also which has 6-9 (senior teams only).

I just don’t see how the consistent low junior numbers will not eventually mean some clubs need to merge, go to 1 team permanently or go into recess.

Surely they’re not keeping the current roster and having byes when they play Hobart? With eight senior teams now, it’s the perfect chance to have no byes at all.
