For comparison, I went to see the VAFA D2 Grand final last year between Kew & St Marys Salesian. Both Grand Finalists would've beaten the bottom 3 team in SFL Div 1 last year. I reckon I counted 6 players in total from both sides under 6 foot

I reckon CPL and Mt would've beaten the bottom 3 of Div 1 as well last year. the gap between those 3-->div 2-->top of div 3 is buggar all.

Bottom 2 of div 1 last year would have been bottom 2 in div 2 as well
Heatherton would have been on the edge of the top 5 and Clayton would have been in the top 5. Standard of Div2 last year from what I saw in the finals was pretty ordinary.

I dont think they would of been bottom two, but there's a lot of dead weight around the 3 divisions with the 1up/1down rule, having played Heatherton whilst in Div 1, Mount had a better side.

CPL beat both Skye and Caulfield pre-season.

As I said, not much between the top of Div 3 and bottom of Div 1 imo.

Doveton were competitive last year but ended up 9th after being unbeaten and dominant in div 3 the year before ( and beating Heatherton by 15+ goals in the last preseason game.) Div 2 is a step up.

Doveton weren't as good in 2013 as Mount or CPL were last year.

Not trying to be facetious, but how good are these Heatherton recruits coming up from division 3? Cream of the crop?

If you know these players then yes you are being very facetious stating cream of the crop. PLayed against all of them and I can tell you 'K' from Lyndale (cant be bothered spelling his name) was on the recieving end of some very good mids to get his goals - only mauled crap sides in getting them. He will be way out of his depth in Div 3. Carroll will go ok if injury free so I hope they did a medical review before offering the contract. The Dandy boys were ok in a crap side but really, any decent player would be. Van Schlanka will be ok especially if Heatherton 2's are looking at playing finals as he loses a leg mid season and then finds it late in season to qualify for finals. Nah, these guys would be mid range to say the least. I hope they approached Heatherton than someone going out and head hunting them, if they did then a few Div 3 sides have hidden the gems well.

Yeah but Doveton dominated the season and have silverware in the cabinet and celebrated well.

The other two were doing the same however stuffed it up and now they have to do it all again.

What a waste of a year and the opportunity of making history for your club.

Irrelevant of the result and how they celebrated, all I'm saying is that Mount and CPL were better teams. And for the argument of how well they would go in division 2 compared to Doveton then Mount and CPL would have played finals in division 2 last year, quite easily. They would of been competitive in division 1

Did you play against both Doveton 2013 and Mount / CPL 2014?
That Doveton side was a class above the rest not dropping a game and imo the best division 3 side since parkmore.
Mount were good last year but teams like Mordi, skye etc would have torn them apart... there is a big step between top division 3 and top division 2...

I didn't say they would of won the flag but they definitely would have made finals, and been at least competitive in div 1. It's hard to judge Dovetons 2014 in div 2 because they we're probably stronger in 2013. Agreed?

Only one side in the last ten years has been very competitive in division 2 after winning a division 3 grand final. South Yarra won gf in 08 then played off in division 2 grand final in 09 that was a bigger effort than the year before.

They picked up a few solid players and didn't really lose anyone, that's the difference. It's so hard to go up a division and keep blokes around
