AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Yep, I run the league! haha.
On a serious note, name another venue in the three divisions that
a) has a fence
b) has appropriate facilities for players and spectators
c) has the personnel to host a successful finals series
d) is capable of being able put up say 15k in advance.
You won't find many, if any.
15k?? Sounds like it's some sort Olympic games or World Cup bid Cheltenham are involved in.The real sticking point is the 15k or whatever it is. Not sure why a club needs to put up so much cash. The league isn't short of a dollar. Like I said, good luck to Cheltenham if they are the best tender put forward.
Heatherton paid 17K to host Divvy 3 this year. They had more than broke even by Prelim Final week. Despite only hosting half a GF they still come out of it pretty well. Not sure if any Liquor Licensing Fines ended up coming their way though. Speaking to one of their committee men all the hard work is worth it.
Speaking to someone at Springvale they sold about 1500 Hamburgers at $8 each during the finals. 12K just in Hamburgers, add the Canteen and grog sales and you can see why it costs to host. It can set you up for the next 12 months very easily.
Bounceback are you really that thick? do you not think all that was taken into account when the tender was won this year. I heard nothing but good things from all spectators throughout the finals series, and it is not the first time finals have been there. Div 3 was also there for a couple of years in a row before all facilities were upgraded!!
The burgers were not $8. I think I paid $5 for a plain one.$8!!! Wanna be a bloody good burger
So basically if your club doesn't have the facilities due to location of ground and potential council issues such as being fenced etc, your club is automatically on the back foot as you are unable to host finals and earn some extra cash for the following year?
Hope these clubs get some higher form of support from the league to make up for it.....
Nothings stopping clubs from hosting finals of others leagues.
Carrum hosted the Frankston District Juniors Finals for many years. Having 2 ovals meant we could get 8 games played each week of the finals.
How would hosting finals from other league help, assuming one of the pre requisites would be to have the oval fenced, and if it isn't then you have bugger all chance of hosting finals. much the same for gate taking throughout the year, you club has to find other (harder) ways to earn coin.
How's the numbers at Training ? Heard EH,Hallam both had around 5 or 6 at there sessions only heard it 2nd hand though...
I drove past hallams training at the local high school ( pretty sure it was them). They had plenty there
$550.So I heard the SFL are introducing a new "Finals security" levy next season. Not sure on the actual cost to each club but I believe it's around $600. Surely there are better ways to cover this cost than slug each club? Thoughts?
