I know we are all now looking to see who we draft and what type of player that will be. We all have our opinions on wether we should take best available or go for the type of player we desperately need.
I think most Blues BF members believe we should try our utmost to get hold of a good, big high marking KP player for CHF or CHB.
In reading some of the posts in relation to who's available in the draft it is evident that there are not many good young big KP players available (e.g Hurley)
Therefore, I think there is a compromise.
  • We take the best player available in the draft (presumably it is not a KP)
  • We continue to develop Austin (193cm) at CHB
  • Jamison (193cm) at FB
  • Bower, Armfield,Grigg Walker etc on the flanks.
  • We shift Thornton to CHF:thumbsu:
He has played extremely well on the odd occasions he has been moved there. After playing down back for years he has a good understanding of the CHF's methods and moves. He knows how to play the position. He knows where & when to go.
He is a good strong overhead mark, is not slow and is a good kick.
That way we would finally have a reasonable spine.
Jamison - Austin - Betts - Thornton - Fevola
I am still very hopeful that Hartlett can get a full pre season under his belt and be a regular member of the team. He is 196cm, quick and can kick a ball a mile.:thumbsu:

Im onto you Peekay...putting things in bold and adding a few thumbs up to make the suggestion look sensible. Hasn't worked sorry.

Thornton has shown when left to do his thing as the third tall in defense he is just about the best at what he does. Why **** with that?

We have potentially once in a decade midfielders in Gibbs and Murphy (I suppose technically that makes is twice in a decade) developing quite nicely, why would we put our best crumbing forward into the centre? Great for the odd 4-5 minute burst, but Eddie would blow up very quickly.

Austin has shown a bit and I'm hopeful he will make a great CHB. Won't be in 2010.

Hartlett quick? I have shown more toe sprinting for a re-fill during an ad-break. I was all for another chance...he got it, he failed.

If what you are suggesting is supposed to give us hope for next year, then it has not worked, Thornton is no CHF, Hartlett will probably be delisted and Austin has some way to go to being our CHB.

The spine should go

FB: Jammo- Solid in defence
CHB: Waite/Bower or Austin- Good 3 to pick from to play CHB
C: Betts- beeeeeeeeeetttss!
CHF: Kreuzer- Hampson/Warnock in ruck, allows Kruz to be 2nd tall
FF: Fevola - Fev to have another great season

for whats its worth, i believe we should pick best available and pick 11.

i would like to see the team look somethink like this:

B: Armfield Jamison Thorton
HB: Gibbs Bower Russell
C: Simpson Stevens Grigg
HF: Walker Waite Murphy
F: Betts Fevola Robinson
R: Kreuzer Judd Joseph
INT: Carrazzo Hampson Yarran
Ellard;)

What do people think!

A lot of people have Waite as a given for Round 1 next year,
quite frankly anyone coming back from a knee reco,
which he did in Round 9, and reckon is a full year job,
you wouldn't expect that much out of.
And Jamison who is coming back from shoulder and groin surgery.

Yet I still wouldn't trade a second round pick for a 30 year old full back who wants to come home.

Draft picks are gold with the upcoming concessions the AFL have handed to GC and GWS.

I think Waite will take a year of playing to get back somewhere near he's best so the expectation everyone has on him for 2010 please hold over until 2011, also your centreline will go down as one of the most overated, underskilled and most disappointing line in AFL history.:)

i think jamison will be able slot straight back assuming he has an uninterupted pre season. waite is questionable, even if it takes him a few rounds, he should be able to offer more at CHF than Hartlett, Cloke or O'hAilpin.

Id love to see Kreuzer at CHF, however, i feel he would be more valuable around the ground

jamison, austin, gibbs, waite, fevola.....

another alternative to CHB is Setanta..gives us the big body we need.

Note: off the calrton official site
austin - 193, 93kg
jamison - 193, 90kg
waite - 194, 97kg
bower - 192, 92kg
thorntan - 192, 92kg

not much size diff besides waite in terms of height / kilos (or weight:p)

So the colapse of last Saturday night didn't convince a lot of you that "Bower" is not and will never be a CHB. At best he is a tall HBF.
He cannot play against the big power forwards like "Brown" or even Bradshaw with his pace and smarts.
Waite's very best position for the best makeup of the team is on the Wing. He's waisted in any other position. When on the wing he can help dictate the play by alternating from a defensive mood to an aggresive offensive mood and play up and down the ground. He is a good long kick when on the run can quickly kick the ball deep into the forward area to Fevola , Kruezer and the crumbers.
The reason I put "Betts" in the middle is he has the quickest & accurate hands in the business. He is also very strong and doesn't get pushed off the ball all too easily. He and Hadley would get first use of the ball out to Gibbs and/or Judd etc.
By having him in the middle at bounces allows us to maybe have the three quick endiginous players in the forward half.
That would allow us to have both or one of Yarran & Gartlett in the forward area crumbing to Fevola and Kruezer (FP)
Therefore my very best scenario for 2010 is:-

B: Joseph Jamison O'hAlipin
HB: Armfield Austin/Hartlett Russell
C: Walker Betts Waite
HF: Judd Thornton Murphy
F: Yarrran Fevola Kruezer
R: Warnock, Gibbs, Hadley
INT: Carrazzo Hampson Robertson Simpson
Em: Gartlett, Scotland, Bower, Grigg
